Mike; I'm also beta testing VueMaster, and as you say Dan is doing a great job, and he thinks of everything. I am at the moment successfuly loading Poser models into Vue with VueMaster, and they look excellent without any tweaking :O)) When Dan decides to release it, Poser to Vue import questions will be a thing of the past! Laurie; I'm going by my memory of the conversations I have had with Dan, so I may be wrong, but one of the reasons that Vue does not load the trans maps, is because Poser does not write a reference to the trans map in the .MTL file :o( Cheers

darchangel; You said: "i think that these days, when everyone has MINIMUM 20 gbs of storage space AND a cd burner, we could have made these files store the textures and objects and make them truly portable." If the pz3 did that, then it would break copyright laws every time somebody posted one to share with us. Cheers

Thread: Article in German c't magazine on forthcoming copy protection & CuriousLabs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Martin, You have bought up some great points, and like yourself, I have also been active in letting companies know when I have seen their products on warez sites. When I first read about this new copy protection scheme, I could understand why Curious Labs had done it, but did not understand why us innocent users had to suffer in such a way. These are the reasons for my hesitance in using this type of protection: 1. All that Martin has mentioned above. 2. As you say Martin, software companies come and go, and I don't fancy having a useless piece of software that I can't use because the company no longer exists. 3. It would be nice to see CL help them selves out a bit more. It has taken them longer to sort out a registration procedure for it's existing customers, than it has to develop and release a new product (PPP). 4. Maybe they should look at Maxons way of handling piracy. 5. Just 2 weeks ago I let CL know about a giant warez site, that has everything on there from Adobe Premier, Lightwave, Poser 4 to Partition Magic etc. Went to check to see if it was still up on seeing this post...and yes it was. I'm starting to wonder if the support that we try to give software companies is really taken that seriously! It is funny that you mention Germany, as it is a part of the EU, so the same laws could be in force in other EU countries. What ever CL does, I will always support software companies against the threat of piracy, but not at the cost of a "sharp stick in the eye" for being supportive to them in the past. Cheers

JKeller I can not understand how you will only have to visit the site once to register on the software dongle. The only way that can happen is if the registration info is kept on a hidden partition, a whole can of worms in it self. As soon as you re-format, and try to install Poser again, as far as the software is concerned it is a brand new machine, unless the software has to connect to CL to varify that the registered user of the computer tallies with the serial number of the software. Exactly how much info is needed about your PC to make this registration process feasable? Cheers

Scenario (18 months from now): You have had Poser 5 for 6 months, and last month CL went bust and ceased trading. You have found that your PC cannot handle the more advanced software or complex Poser scenes that you are now creating. You decide that you need a major PC upgrade, but how are you suppose to do that and keep PoserYOU DONT! Steve Coopers press statement at the website does not promise anyone that CL will be around for as long as you want to use Poser. If CL went belly up, do you think they would really care if there where thousands of users unable to use the software that they paid for, because they need a new PC. You dont think that CL could go bust? Look at the reasons why they are prepared to use this software dongle in the first place. Within 6 months of the release of the software dongle (if not sooner), cracks will be floating around the web. If Steve Cooper could promise (and I mean promise) that provisions have been put in place (in the unlikely event that CL did cease trading), that registered and license abiding users could use the software for as long as they like on any machine, then that would ease a lot of fears. Cheers

JKeller wrote: "Anthony, if CL found out about it 2 weeks ago, they may still be in the process of taking it down. There's no magic switch they can flip to shut a website down. And maybe they're watching that warez site to lead them to bigger fish?" I'll give you another example of the response I got from CL on letting them know of the illegal use of Poser Models in the Blender file format that where available for download. The response I got "they have probably developed a pz3 import plugin". Did not even see any recognition in the reply to the fact that they where available for download! Are they still there? Yes...and I reported this months ago! As people have already mentioned, it is us honest users who get screwed in the end...even when we try to help out. Cheers

Thread: Do you have questions about software security and Curious Labs? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Steve; 10) On registering the software, will the user be told where, or how the authorization code is kept on their system. Will they also be given instructions, on how to remove the code if they no longer have use for the software in the future? 11) Will re-partitioning the HD remove the code? Cheers

Great work Bloodsong, it was well worth the wait. How would you like to save the position of them characters in Poser, export as one big file and then load into Vue with Texture and bump maps intact? Mike will know what I'm talking about, and maybe you do as well ;) Cheers...SPLASH! ;)

I can agree with your reasoning Anthony 100%. However, comparing your security measures to a deadbolt is wrong in this instance. For a start, I can find and remove or change the deadbolt when ever I wish, without waiting for a carpenter to give me the tools. Regards, Cheeers

Thread: My Opinion On The replies To Our Questions To Steve. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi Steve, Sorry but you are twisting what I say...I did not say that by registering that it was taking the fun out of Poser. In fact I have complained continually about the fact that there is still no online registration. I still check to see if it is up yet most days, so that I can register. Let me put what I feel on the record: I still trust CL 100%, and I can understand the reasons that you have to go to such lengths. My personal moral issues on this however will affect my decision. I just don't agree that someone should be allowed to place something on my computer that I have very little control over. If I register, I would at least like to know where the code is placed, and how to remove it by myself. Of course it goes without saying, that I would expect registration to be terminated if I decided to do that. I will continue to use Poser 4 and support CL in their fight against warez, but if Poser 5 or PPP means that I have to place hidden code on my machine, then Poser 4 is my last CL product. In other words, I would not be able to accept the license agreement. Those are just my personal opinions Steve...just like I don't agree with Bull Fighting, but other people do. I hope that you can understand my views Steve, even if you can't agree. Kindest regards, Cheers

No physical editing at all, Mike. You wont even have to go into Explorer to collect all the textures and place them in a folder.....but I'm telling you too much, and will surely get my hand slapped by the Master ;) Cheers

No, it is very good value for the content you get with it. Some things are a bit of a let down i.e. don't expect a help file to pop up when you press F1. Cheers

Thread: Copy protection - what would YOU do? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Now this scenario is worrying for the future of Poser: If after the security patch is released, a crack is found on warez sites, then we can all say goodbye to Poser. Why? Well, not only would CL have not stopped the potential loss of sales from warez, but they would also have lost paying, licence abiding customers who did not agree with the security patch in the first place. In other words CL will be in a worse position than if they hadn't gone the software dongle route. Cheers
