Not alot more to add than that, apart from the link LOL! Makes you wonder where the catch is considering the huge drop in price... Cheers

It's probably not selling... Something to think about...

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 15 May 2001 at 5:08 PM

I don't dare follow the link for fear my wallet might come with me. So, is this a temporary price reduction, or a new solid price? :)

Cheers ( ) posted Tue, 15 May 2001 at 5:21 PM

I only had a quick flick over there Varian (I'm just about to buy Rhino, and set my heart on it ;) ), but it seems that they have reviewed their whole pricing structure. My impression was that it was a solid price. They are also offering a new "pro" package that includes thing like courses etc, etc. Cheers

The reason is certainly because its not selling well and programs like VUE offer such higher value for the buck. I have Truespace 4 and barely use it. It's a nice program but they are caught in the crunch between software like VUE and MAX and Lightwave. It's a tough place for a lesser known mid-range program like Truespace... Also, you should have downloaded the free Amapi software that was being handed out last month. You can upgrade that to the latest version for a fairly low price. Amapi has also been combined under Eovia, a TGS company, which is also coming out with the new Carrara, another mid-range program like Truespace, which is due out at ANY TIME NOW. It may also be why Truespace (Caligari) is feeling the pressure...

Sounds like a cool deal, really, so thanks for posting Cheers. There are a few people who swear by it though, and if I'm not wrong, PhilC is one of them. Wasn't Truespace 5 like 500 bucks or more? I bet the peopl who paid full price won't be too happy.....

Axe555 ( ) posted Tue, 15 May 2001 at 7:07 PM

I checked with Eovia, and the price to upgrade from Amapi 4.15 to 6 was at a 20% discount which works out to about $320. Amapi 4.15 as well as Eye Candy 3 are available at In Depth Arts right now! If you missed them, nows your'e chance! Rich

Agh...I have so many 3D programs now that I don't even hardly use, I better not add to the list. I just keep opening Vue and it keeps doing the things I want to do. :)

Hmmm.... good thing Vue 4 is going to support direct import of COB files :-) Best regards, Lynn Fredricks e-on software US Business Unit

Really great to here Vue 4 will support COB files. It's actually a really good format, especially in relation to 3DS and OBJ files. I hope this includes texture maps as well... (I use COB has an intermediate translation format- COB-2-3DS, also a good format to export mesh files from Bryce as 3DS will nearly ALWAYS crash Bryce...)

Lynn: YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! Someone's been peeking in my computer! My primary 3D software: 1. Vue 2. Poser 3. Truespace I think I have died and gone to Heaven :))))))))))))))))) -SMT :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Well, now--- guess I'll be looking into TrueSpace! There's enough Heaven for ALL of us, I imagine..... :)

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Thu, 17 May 2001 at 9:16 AM

I gave up on TrueSpace after I got v. 3 and STILL couldn't figure out the interface even AFTER reading the manual. So, it went into the same circular file as Bryce. Kate (who won't waste any more money on TrueSpace)

smallspace ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2001 at 11:37 AM

I will freely admit that Truespace is an acquired taste. As for myself, what I've done is customized the GUI so much that it now looks very much like any standard Windows application. I've got the menus on the top, the tools on the side, I've set up the keyboard with a bunch of shortcuts, and I use the 4-window configuration available in version 5. I completely stay away from the wacky stuff like the 3D widgets. I still had to memorize what each of the icons did, but once that happened, the program became very easy to use. -SMT

KateTheShrew ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2001 at 2:56 PM

And that's where I ran into trouble - "what each of the icons did" I still haven't figured out that part (which is the same trouble I have by Bryce) to the point where I can actually DO anything other than open and close the program. And life is just too short to waste it on an ornery interface g Kate

Varian ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2001 at 3:25 PM

I was able to actually create a terrain in Bryce. With Bryce's GUI, I consider that quite an accomplishment. Someday, I hope to figure out how to something with Carrara besides open and close it. Why can't they all just take a lesson from VUE? :D

smallspace ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2001 at 5:22 PM

I wish Poser would take a lesson from Vue. God! I hate those radial dials! And, just try to accurately manipulate a figure directly from the screen! -SMT

Well, with E-On and Curious Labs collaborating on some of the Vue 4 features, maybe, just maybe they'll take a page out of E-On's books on the next version of Poser and start sneaking an easier interface in on us? I mean, they've already stuck the 4 view windows in there. Can other changes be far behind? ;) Kate (with her fingers crossed)
