This is because the camera's inside a solid object, I'd guess. If you use another cube as a boolean to hollow out the cube you'll find that the lighting behaves normally.
Thread: Vue Pro rendering quirk | Forum: Vue
OK, thanks for the input. I've tried cranking up the smoothing angle to no avail. I also tried decimating the object slightly to see if that would rejig the geometry and thus remove the seam but again no luck. Baking to polygons doesn't apply as the object is already a polygonal object (I tried it anyway tho!) The seam also shows up if I export from Poser to an obj and then import so I'm guessing its a problem with the way Pro renders certain geometry rather than a Poser import problem per se. Oh well, reckon we're stuck with it for the time being.
Thread: Grainy image quality | Forum: Vue
You'll probably find that your grainy renders are those using the volumetric atmosphere model. Generally, you need to crank up the render quality for scenes using volumetric atmospheres, volumetric/soft-shadowed lights or depth-of-field to avoid the graininess. You can get away with much lower anti-aliasing if your scene uses none of the above.

Niandji - I notice you've removed most of your gallery, and from your comments above it seems you're presumably leaving 'rosity as a result of those comments and this tread. I sincerely hope you'll reconsider as you're a talented artist and these galleries would be worse off without your art.
Thread: TROLL ALERT!!! | Forum: Vue
Sorry, but I think you are over-reacting. In your gallery I see 3 critical comments from this chap, two of which are constructive if not very diplomatic, and there's also one very positive comment. I agree he could have phrased his comments more delicately but you lost the moral highground as soon as you publicly 'named and shamed' here as a troll and then went on to call him a 'fool' and an 'asswipe'. I'm sure a simple IM would have sorted this out amicably.
Thread: Vue Pro rending slower than Vue 4??? | Forum: Vue
Well that explains it! Thanks for the info. :) Reckon I'm going to be experimenting with the User Settings a lot more now we can save them to disk.

I suspect what you were seeing was actually a specular highlight in the glass material. You might try taking the highlight brightness and/or size right down in the window materials with your original light set-up and see if that solves the problem. Excellent picture by the way.

Thread: May Challenge | Forum: Vue
Sounds like an interesting challenge - no doubt it will be hotly contested! It should be a blast! (ahem - sorry!) Hope I get time to enter this month. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.
Thread: IMPORTANT!!! VOTING FOR THA APRIL CHALLENGE | Forum: Vue
Guitta - I don't envy you the task of collating all these images - perhaps we need to implement some system where the entrants email a designated mod to enter or something? Or perhaps have a dedicated thread for entries? Seems a bit unfair to put all the responsibility on the mod in charge to track down every vague reference to a challenge entry....

Um ... I hate to say this but we seem to have missed another entry - I noticed that there's a link to another entry in that thread which I hadn't seen: "Mousson" by pmermino. It's in the gallery (link attached). It's now an even more sticky (ahem) choice but if it's in the running I think I'm changing my vote to pmernino's. If it's not in the vote I'll stick to my original vote and go with Nightvoice. (I never knew I had such a thing for muddy trucks...) As ever, all the entries were superb this month. K.Thread: VOTE FOR THE APRIL IMAGE:-) | Forum: Vue
Much too bogged down with work to enter this month but kudos to all those who did - excellent work all round. After some consideration I think my vote has to got to Nightvoice's 'Stuck in the mud' pic. I liked the realism and sense of place; and while all the entries were technically great this was one of the few I found particularly evocative this month. Congrats all round though... K.
Thread: Lament Configuration | Forum: Vue
Mike - it's like that because I created the original cube and assigned the UV mapping in trueSpace. I then ported it over to Vue to apply the materials (I'd painted each face of the cube a different colour before exporting so each face was individually editable via the materials browser).

Thanks for the kind words. I hadn't thought of putting it in Free Stuff until NightVoice mentioned it above, but have done so now. It's quite a big download for a simple cube but the textures are very high resolution. You can always scale them down in a graphics package if they're overkill for your scene. Hope someone gets some use out of it! Cheers K.
