Thread: default folders | Forum: DAZ|Studio
This one catches out a lot of people. "The Content folder" in the top level of a downloaded zip installer does not mean you must have "a folder that must be named Content", it's "the folder set up in your Content Directory Manager dialog that contains your content files".
In early versions of DAZ|Studio this was actually named "Content", and that seems to have stuck for installers from many non-DAZ sources. Yes, that's horribly accident-prone. No, I don't think anything can be done about it at this late date.
Extract the folders from inside the Content folder in the zip and merge them into the existing folders inside whatever your existing content location folder is named.

Needs a bit more (or at least some) design work.
I'm not in the habit of fullscreening my browser window; it makes it more difficult to read long blocks of wide lines of text. Of course, my usual browser window size is narrower than the decided-upon minimum width of the new page design. What this boils down to is that the left side of the page header (Renderosity logo and search bar) is overlaid with the right side (cart icon, my avatar, "my name" dropdown menu). It looks sloppy and untidy.
Why is the link to my cart not (or not also) in the dropdown beside the wishlist link?
I never realised how handy the one-click link between wishlist and cart was. This needs to be put back in.
Is the blank area above the page header supposed to be a blocked ad? Sorry, nothing will persuade me to turn off AdBlocker — every time I try, my pages turn into an untidy mass of clutter.
Thread: Downloaded zip installer can't extract files | Forum: MarketPlace Customers
Okay, it's solved. As suggested upthread, I got in touch with VanishingPoint on sitemail, and they suggested I use WinZip. I did and it worked — with the very first zip I downloaded. Unpacked, installed, and I'm running a test render now.
Very odd, though, I've never had a zip file where I must use WinZip to unpack it.
Thanks, everyone, for your help.

Which zip utility are you two using? I know not all unzippers work exactly the same, I used to use two or three others and they didn't all have the same problems with the occasional dud zip file I came across.
I just cleared my cache and downloaded again; exactly the same error. I'm not using a dowmload manager, just Firefox on its own.
Is there any other way I can get a working zip file?

I've tried re-downloading a third and fourth time, with identical results. It has to be a glitch with the .zip file I'm pulling down from the Renderosity servers.
I have had very occasional dud zips, but the last time was many years ago, and I was always able to fix them with the WinRAR repair tool. This seems to be something different. When I look inside the zip, I can see all the missing files, I just can't extract any of them.
Thread: Browser catastrophic crash to desktop | Forum: Community Center
Hmm... curiouser and curiouser. Turns out it wasn't just here, it was any site I tried to download from. And shutting everything down and rebooting cleared the problem. Must have been one of those Heisenbugs in Firefox; as soon as I investigated more closely, it vanished.
Problem not so much "resolved" as "softly and silently vanished away"...

No Win10 here, and I'm beginning to suspect it's going in a direction where I won't want to install it. And I've never needed to clear temp files before.

Quote - The scary thing to me is that when I went on the new site from a different computer that I hadn't accessed in a month or so, I still get the green alien.
It might not entirely be a cookies/cache problem. I cleared mine before the first time I went onto the new site, and it's still frequently all worng. I'm convinced the site isn't assembling new pages from the current store database, it's pushing old cached pages — cached at their end, not our browsers — and the same seems to be happening now and then with whatever flag is used to display the "site down" page. I think I saw this behaviour during the brief downtime yesterday (late afternoon Friday DAZ time). Frequent use of the "reload" button seems to help... most of the time.

Quote - well pretty boring since it is still the same as 5 day's ago, so I decide to go back on first Page .... and woooow new stuff appeared but hell where did the stuff go I saw the first time I enter the Daz New releases ,
At least part of the problem seems to be that the new website somehow manages to push old cached pages at us, instead of assembling a new up-to-date page from the current store database and pushing that. I've been getting into the habit of force-reloading each store page as I look at it, and that does help, but I still get frequent most-recent-musical-chairs and now-you-see-it-now-you-don't sale prices. What a mess...
Ah well, at least I now finally managed to download the stuff I bought last Saturday. Maybe I'll buy more stuff I want to get this weekend.

Quote - Spotted Kitty, have you seen the contact info that Richard has posted on the 2nd page of this thread http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2849812&page=2
Must have missed that post. Got it, thanks. A bit late tonight, I'll fire off an aaaiiieee-mail tomorrow.
Thread: New Daz Improvements | Forum: DAZ|Studio
I notice a couple of new goodies have just appeared in the New Releases page. I hope DAZ realises that a lot of people, including me, have no trust in the secure and efficient operation of the store in its current state. I certainly won't buy anything else, or even put anything else into my cart or wishlist, until it's fixed.
So why are they putting up another $1 special (with no closing date — again) at a time when none of us know when the site will be properly operational again? There shouldn't be any more limited-time offers until we know we'll be able to download what we bought. (And yes, my last purchase is still "pending" and the order is tagged as "complete"... and everything I bought is still in my cart.) Both of the new items are things I want to buy anyway, which only adds to the annoyance.
I really feel sorry for the vendors of all the new stuff in the firing line, this must be having a terrible effect on them. Hopefully sales will recover once all the "interesting times" are over.

Quote - you are getting some sort of left over cookie show up is all,
Hmm, could this be the cause of the weird behaviour I was seeing? Whenever I clicked from one page to another — it apparently didn't matter which, whether inside or outside the account pages —
Some of this went away (or at least became consistent) if I did a hard refresh on every page, which seems to mesh with what someone said about a caching problem. Honestly, though, I don't think I've seen a site misbehave like this since before I switched from IE4 to the Firefox prerelease beta.
Lots more to say about things that IMHO need to be tweaked/changed/killed with fire, but that can wait until after we're all settled in on the new forums. Hopefully ess ooo ooo en...
Thread: Problem between clothes and poses with girls in DAZ | Forum: DAZ|Studio
As far as things like that skirt are concerned, it might have existing morphs to follow leg movements. Check the body parts in the Scene tab: the morphs might be on the Hip, or the Skirt (if there's something named that). There might also be things called body handles, which are extra body parts appearing in the Scene tab but frequently with no visible part in the Viewport. You most often see these in things like long skirts and cloaks, but they're sometimes used in shorter items as well. Select the body handle (it might be called "LThigh" or "Rskirt" or something similar) and use its rotation (bend/twist/side-side) dials to manipulate the clothes. Watch out for renamed rotation dials.
If all else fails, though, D-formers will usually give a good result. It might be a bit fiddly, though, and take some time to get exactly what you want.

That sort of statement in a blurb always reminds me of the promise "our program understands English™!!!" — "English" was the company's trademarked BASIC-descended query language.
