Thread: Publishing a Book | Forum: Writers
My grandmother published quite a few books of poems, and I'm somewhat familiar with the process. Unfortunately she passed away years ago and is only here in spirit to help me. I was just wondering if there was any problem with referring readers of a book to Renderosity.

excellent addition karen, and very true here. I hope I do not wind up in the ER anytime soon, hospitals make me very nervous. As for TallPockets remark as to where all the 'writers' are, I don't know, they don't seem to check out the forum very often. Start making cross references in your posts in the gallery and perhaps people will drop by, but I doubt it.

The entire nature of this site is blind support. There are a few rare commenters that will give helpful advice along the way, but for the most part people are scared to do so. If I run across something truly terrible I might try to give some helpful advice but more often than not just skip the whole thing. There are other sites more geared to writer's workshops that can help a writer assess his/her skills and grow from there. I, being more of the loner type, appreciate the blind support generated from this site just because I am not looking to make literary masterpieces, I am just looking for a way to express myself. This topic has been tackled on almost every forum here at one time or another I bet. I've read it many times in the Bryce forum for example. I think if you are looking for valid feedback on your writings look elsewhere, but do continue to upload here because some of those other sites tend to break a writers spirit. Just asking for valid feedback doesn't always help here (sometimes does, but usually doesn't.)

yes, this does seem to be turning into the typical renderosity contest. Hmmmm. How bout this. Everyone sends their images via email to one guy (me, since I don't post my crappy little renders anyhow) and he posts them in a forum. Although I have to admit this is getting rather insubordinate to the moderators. They're going to think we're trying to overthrow the system.
Thread: My sky tutorial | Forum: Bryce
I was about to skip over this message, thinking I don't really want to read a sky tutorial, then I saw orbital's name next to it. Now I know it's gotta be good. (I'm shameless, ain't I? Free endorsements are always fun)

The only way to fix a problem like that would be to remove the names from the entries, so that only the moderator would know whose is which.

If the water level were low enough you could also just use a digital camera (or a regular one if you really want to go through all that stuff). Gog, it'll be a while before I decipher everything you just said, but for now, that sounds interesting. I guess I could just go get a petri dish and some food dye and just try the danged experiment, but I'm broke until Friday.

& nbsp will add extra spaces (remove the space from after the &) I have a tendency to double enter between paragraphs because not everywhere accepts HTML formatting in posts.
Thread: How important do you feel is "The opener"? | Forum: Writers
I can't remember the name of the book, or what exactly the words were, but I can remember the image that the first few lines left me with still. It was about the V that the trees made along the sides of a very long and straight river. I believe it was a Jack London book, not sure though. But the words were so powerful that I remembered the image for a long time. (I was probably 10 when reading it). So in my opinion, the first few lines are exceptionally important. Dialyn is right though, the words need to fit the story.

The most important thing to know when you're used to PC or MAC and are switching is that the numbers aren't equal. 1.5 Ghz on a MAC will scream but be sufficient on a PC. Same thing with memory, 512 will be awesome on a MAC but be average for PC. I never understood why, I just know that it is.

Neat image, really cool concept. The -10 degrees idea is lost though. The textures and overall color scheme gives me the impression of a desert atmosphere, maybe Africa, basing off of old movies I've seen.
