Poser is good for animations as well as stills, but it takes practice. to be gooda at anything takes practice. There are very few programs out there with the "Make Art" button. It all depends on your own artistic will as to whether poser is "good". People like my stills and give good reviews on them. I have had my animations play at various festivals and screenings over the years (starting with Poser 3). IMHO Poser is good for starting and continuing. As a matter of fact, I'm teaching an entry-level workshop this weekend on "Basic animation using Poser 3" at Quickdraw Animation Society, in Calgary, so if you're available, sign up and come on in. If you want other programs, there's Blender (freeeee, used to make the movie "Elephant Dreams"), Wings, and iClone.

Thread: OT - For all you Sci-Fiers out there... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I was at a Sci fi convention years ago and a Trekker asked me which Star Trek episode (this was long before New Gen) was my favorite. I said "I always thought Lost In Space was much more realistic...." they were going to toss me out the window, we were on the seventh of nine floors. Some people just can't take a joke;-)

and if you go off and render vicky in a temple, don't forget to give her a sword......... Life is like juggling three Rabid Badgers, if you don't get torn up in the process, it's a beautiful thing!

this is a bit of a fake, not a prop but I did an image like this on rotica a few years ago. I took the figure's head and bent it back into the body a full180 degrees and that left a stump on the neck. I then positioned a spare head from the library where I needed it. If you want I can send images of the turn in progress. Hope this helps. Life is like juggling three rabid badgers.... if you don't get torn up in the process, it's a beautiful thing!
Thread: Poser is for Perverts? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
this reminds me of a scene from "Another Fine Myth" when Skeeve finds out that Aahz is from the dimenson of Perv. Skeeve: "Does that make you a Pervert?" Aahz: "No, that makes me a Pervect!" you define you. Life is like juggling three rabid badgers.... if you don't get torn up in the process, it's a beautiful thing.

ah, X's.... can't live with them, can't tie them to an anchor and drop them into the Straits of Valdez. but that's just me. as a guy, I can only say that Patrick doesn't know what he's on about, lashing out and looking the fool for doing so...... stay strong, stay smart, everytime he lashes out, just nod and smile and take notes. we're here for ya. and unless you've made other plans, have a great day! life is like juggling 3 rabid badgers, if you don't get torn up in the process, it's a beautiful thing!
Thread: Poser Music Vid | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
thanks bigjobbie. I will try the site. I tried to duplicate some of the motion of the vid by creating non-collision walk paths between three figures, using P2 Hi Business woman and P3 Hair, keeping the polys low. I did it in flat shading, and the went monochrome in the edit. it kinda worked g'day, eh!

sorry all, I guess after forty years of archery (including Japanese and Mongol styles) I was doing it wrong with the arrow where it should be.... my mistake, but at such an ancient age mayhaps I can be excused for my lapses..... many apologies.... just going out to burn the bows I have and then move onto crossbow (I'm kidding, I'm kidding, although I do have a crossbow and a slurbow). put the arrow where thee wants it, this is art and open to interpretation.

whoa Xeno..... nobody said that you had to be a fashionista. when I go to parties, I dress casual, unless it's formal, then I dust off the old top hat (what's that you say..... you don't own a top hat? oh, so sorry.... maybe someday;-) ). I don't dress fashionable like you suggest (panama hat.... maybe thirty years ago I might have but that was then, this is now.... get with it). The new design for the space shuttle replacement is an almost carbon copy of the Apollo Service module. why? because it works. in Pop Sci and Pop Mech, both magazines promised that we would be living on the moon in the 80's and colonizing Mars by the 90's..... I want the future I was promised........ I want to be "Captain MacDonald - Mars Patrol" (cue music sci fi Theremin). Instead, I'll have to create my own future by using the machinery that I have. I will create my future that should have been.... by using Poser Artist (cue music again, heroic trumpets).... and trust me, you'll pick up more babes with a well running 1970 VW Beetle that you will with a Corvette (corvettes being so... well.... 1985) "Life is like juggling three rabid badgers... if you don't get torn up in the process, its a beautiful thing!"

a couple of things, but otherwise a cool pic. The arrow is on the wrong side of the bow, right hand shots have the arrow on the right hand side so that on release, the fletching doesn't tear off. the draw hand is too weak on the string, it would appear the fingers are at right angles to the arrow. For a smooth, fast shot, the fingers should be tensed at the end of the string with the whole hand almost at a trailing perpendicular to the arrow itself, so that on release, the string arm and the bow arm don't move in the follow through. good expression on the archer's face, very good shadowing.

Well now.... this sounds like fun. I'm going to be purchasing Poser Artist because for general work, P6 is just way to involved (some would say clunky). I'm still using Poser 3 because "I" like it. Others will pooh-pooh my choice because it's old school and just not as "cool" as the new stuff. I like it because when I do an animation, it gets done fast (I animate my stuff mostly in sketch or Toon mode.... I just like the looks of it, and so do others). Is P6 better..... well, for the price and all the do dads it should be. but I also think back to the history of spaceflight. The early Mercury and Vokshod machines were so insanely primative compared to the modern space shuttle but they still went up and accomplished the job. Titanic was built by professionals, Noah's Ark was built by an amateur. My 1970 VW Beetle could run rings around a Corvette in the slalom. And I still use my Amigas, I have 6 of them (two A 500's, three A2000's with two being Toasters, and one A1200) I miss my Beetle...... except in winter. Use what works for you, this is art, don't try and be fashionable. Fashion is for people who want to be trendy, Art is for people who want to create trends. and, unless you've made other plans, have a great day!

couple quick things. as I understand it, over at Renderotica the decision to halt images of violence, bondage, forced sex, etc... was based on the company that manages the credit card purchases for the site said they would not provide the service at a low cost unless Rotica bent to their will. two: America is a dictomy of extremes, on TV every night (and I mean every night) you can see movies and shows that feature people being killed, murdered, injured, post rape, kidnapped, and more yet at the same time America is the most sexually repressed country in the free world (I don't count countries ruled by a religious theocracy as being free). Your video porn industry is worth billions, but it's a guilty secret, you don't want the world to know that you value sex as much as you value your SUV. You have fake violence (Pro Wrestling) real violence (COPS, Reality Police Chase Programs), manufactured violence (cop shows), but heaven forbid that you show skin. the difference between Porn and Pro Wrestling? well, Pro Wrestling has better production values and better music. Porn has better acting and more believable story lines ;-).
