All right, I can already see the starts of another flame... "Is it the system, or the program that's failing?"
Seriously, though, I think it's more of a combination of both. Sure, everything else runs great on the system except for poser 5. If you keep track of the resource usage, Poser 5 tends to take up far more than other apps. That may even include 3ds Max, due to the fact that max takes advantage of hardware acceleration. That's where I feel Poser 5 falls over. Try turning off the acceleration in Max sometime and try rendering (just as an example). Now correct me if I'm wrong, but Poser 5 is using an openGL function for rendering, using software rendering. Good for system compatibility, bad for render times... For better or worse, that's how it seems to have been done.
Either way, at this point I don't care... All I'm seeing is kindle being thrown on to a flame, and I'd rather not see another flame war. Rather than arguing about what's at fault, how about figuring out solutions? Nerd's already posted a great tip topic on decreasing render times. Anybody else have some good ideas on how to drop the render time?

42 min? What kind of system are you rendering this on? I'm finding that, unlike P4, P5 requires much higher system resources. I noticed your also using dynamic hair in this example. Dynamic hair can look good, but if your system isnt up to it, itll choke. Just as an example:
On the old machine (amd tbird 1.1ghz machine with 1.3gb sdram), P5 would run & render well until I added dynamic hair, then it would choke come render time (30min to an hour to render).
On my current machine (amd athlon XP 2000 with 1gb ddr ram), P5 runs great with dynamic hair, and large renders usually dont take longer that 15 min. (large renders example: Mil Dragon with dynamic hair (10,000 hairs) and full size texture map (4000x4000) rendered @ 3000x3000x600dpi, render time: 16min 30sec.)
Also, I noticed your using the long curly dynamic hair in your picture. This hair with default settings tends to tax the system more than the others during setup. At least on mine, thats because for some reason, the Show populated was left checked on the long_back section of the hair by default. (Took me a while to find that one. Couldnt figure out why it took longer to pose that hair.) You may also want to consider substituting that dynamic hair for the old styled hair, It looks just as good, and will drop your render time.
There are a lot a tricks one can do to speed up P5, try taking some time and play with the settings. Im willing to bet you can drop that render time down by half at least (if not more.)
Good luck!

Thread: Sheath Dress freebie for Poser 5 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Actually, with a little work, you could even get that dress to fit on Mike (not that youd want to) As long as your using P5, you can convert the clothing into a prop and drape it on your figure. You can usually get it to fit with only a little pre/post work. ~DM

Yeah, but I've seen the end results when one of those systems breaks down, and it's not pretty. Like anything, if you can live with the risks, then more power to you. I cant afford the risks at this point in time. On the other hand, if I could get that non-corrosive non-conductive non-toxic liquid coolant that Cray used to use, then Id probably be singing a different tune. ~DM

Thanks for the update Kupa! >>Poor geep. He'll have to recalibrate his Poser yardstick all over again. How many times will that be now, LD? ^__^;; ~DM

Dave-So, the temperature for the CPU is recorded from a thermal sensor that is located in the socket (its on a thin piece of plastic that should put it right on the bottom of the CPU die). 40c to 60c seems to be the average range for AMD CPUs. The CPU temperature should never reach above 70c. Theres entire groups dedicated to cooling systems, the right way seems to depend on the group and their extremes. ^__^;; ~DM (who still thinks its crazy to put a Peltier system in a computer)
Thread: Searching for free hair color chart | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Cool! I actually wanted the chart as an easy way of getting the proper hues for realistic hair in P5. The color wheel sounds interesting, I'll keep an eye out for it! ~DM

hello! You've allready got quite a range there, and they look fabulous! According to the dodge website, you've hit all of the offered colors (if that's what your going for). You can get an automobile in just about any color you can think of. You could allways go into photoshop and play around with the hue/saturation till you get something you like. ^__^ Good luck! ~DM
Thread: Nice P5 rendering feature | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
yeah, gator does that trick too. your best bet is to alt+f4 it, or click on the close button (the little x in the upper right hand corner), this will for close the promt (and cancel the installer).
You think you got it bad? I work in a computer lab. we have to ghost the machines on a daily basis, or the crap like this renders them inoperable.
