Thread: Renderosity versus ContentParadise | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Poser Pros and now RundtimeDNA have held Polls to see who uses which Poser Software. Here is how Poser versions Stack Up
Poser 3 = 0
Poser 4 = 24
P4ProPak = 5
Poser 5 = 55
Poser 6 = 131
Poser 7 = 248
Nol offence is meant, but this just proves the point about these kinds of polls:
Does this mean that only 24 people use Poser 4 and only 55 people use Poser 5?
Or is this the percentage of people? So 248% of all users use Poser 7?
This poll really means, "Out of all the people who took the time to answer this poll, 24 people said they use Poser 4."
In other words, these kinds of surveys still don't accurately portray the percentage of users who are using each version of Poser.

Thread: What exactly is the deal with CLEARANCE!!! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Two issues:
I can understand why they would delete items that aren't selling. After all, if it's not selling, why keep it on the server? It's true that some people may eventually have a use for the item, but is it justified to have a 10M product on the server if only 1 person will ever buy it?
The search feature really, really needs to be fixed.
Just yesterday, I was looking for some clothing for Vicky 2. Now, sure, most stuff for V2 is probably gone by now, but that "department" now seems to be full of V4 stuff. I clicked on Marketplace, then Poser, then Victoria 1/2 and I see clothing and characters for V4. Page 1, page 2, page 3... all V4 stuff. Hmm...

Thread: Poser Hall of Fame- who would you add? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
The problem with a "Hall of Fame" is that you will always leave some one out.
Do you include the person who you, personally, think makes one cool item? Or do you include the person who's made tons of items, both for free and for sale for years?
Or do you only include the "popular" people whose names always seem to come up?
Do you include merchants who make best-selling items but never participate in the forums?
Do you include the person who first came up with an idea (the "inventor") or do you include the person who took that idea to the next level (the "innovator")?
For example, do you include the person who first came up with the idea for ERC controls or do you include the person who applies this idea to complex moving parts such as tank treads or Python-script controlled, realistic breathing?
What about the developers of Poser? Would we even be here today if someone decided that Poser should remain an "artists' aide" and simply produce images using the mannequin or the P1 figures?
What about the original programmers of Poser who made all of the Poser files "open source" to the point where we can edit figures, poses, props, and other files using a simple text editor? They could have just as easily made the files in a "binary" format, which would make them a lot harder to edit.

Quote - I'd like to know the number of items for sale over at CP. There never seems to be a lot of new stuff being released. Maybe I'm wrong about this.
Actually, I would be willing to bet that CP has a far larger selection than Renderosity. After all, CP is made up of products from Renderosity, RuntimeDNA, Vanishing Point, Netherworks, and all of the other partners.
Also keep in mind the CP is run by e-frontier as a marketplace site. Renderosity has always prided itself on being a community site.
The Poser community has almost been trained to come directly here and ask a question instead of posting it in the forums at CP.

Thread: Abrams Tank: Vanishing Point Vs. DAZ 3D | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - There are certain names in the world of 3D modeling that carry a cachet of dependable quality. JHoagland is among that select group. If it bears the Hoagland signature, you can be sure it's excellent. I have never seen an exception.
Thanks for the compliment.
The M-1 Abrams was made by Gunpoint-3D and converted to Poser format by Helgard, so I can't take any of the credit for making it.
But, I do give it my seal of approval and I think it's an excellent model. :)
Then again, both Gunpoint-3D and Helgard always make excellent models. After all, it was Helgard who added accurately-moving treads to the tank models.

Thread: Shrek graphics are great but the whole animation and story is too Kiddy,, why?? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
And how to explain the non-stop production of CGI "cute animal" movies? Last year we had "On the Farm" (or whatever it was called), "The Wild" (by Disney), "Happy Feet", and this year we have "Surf's Up" (yet another movie with penguins). How many of these movies do we really need?
Or do the CG artists want to make animal movies to show off their skills? "Look, animated fur!" "Look, photo-realistic water!", "Look, realistic trees and grass". Who says we need a plot or a storyline? Everyone will be so amazed at the life-life animation that they won't care about the story.

Thread: Abrams Tank: Vanishing Point Vs. DAZ 3D | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Don't forget to compare file formats:
The model from Vanishing Point should include various formats: Poser, Vue, 3D Studio Max, Lightwave, etc. Though please check your 3D World CD to make sure the 3D World people put all the models on the CD.
From the looks of the description page at DAZ, their model only includes the Poser version, though it's probably safe to assume that it also works in DAZ|Studio.
If all other factors are comparable (turret length, hatches, treads, size, etc), then the next comparison would have to be price:
The tank from Vanishing Point is free with the purchase of 3D World magazine.
The tank at DAZ is $29.95, though it may be cheaper for Platinum Club members.

Thread: Can NOT SO GOOD artists Post Images in the Gallery here? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I know I'm probably stating the obvious, and someone should say it, so I will... can anyone say "forum flame bait"?
I mean, come on, someone with a "Joined Date" of April 16, 2000 is only now, seven years later, asking if he can post a "beginner" image? So, what exactly, have you been doing in those 7 years and 567 posts to this site?

Thread: Sorry ... can't post FREE stuff here anymore | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I really hate to add fire to this argument, but what, exactly, are the free items tested for?
On page 2 of the Poser Free Stuff section, there are 2 items with broken thumbnail images: "jabiru bird" and "AM_BodyMorph". There are 4 items on page 7 with the same broken thumbnail images:V4 Warrior outfit, Devil Props, Sage Texture For V3, and Sage Morphs For V3.
These aren't the usual "No thumbnail was supplied" message, but the "missing image" icon. Plus, I thought thumbnail images were required.
On page 4 is a "Doctor Strange M1". Now I know this issue is beyond beating a dead horse, but if the "testers" are going to "test" for copyright infringements, how is a Doctor Strange character allowed? Or does no one read Marvel Comics? And if none of the "testers" read Marvel Comics, how will they know if another user uploads another Marvel character?
And I'm offended by the nude thumbnail on page 10 for Miki2.0 Natural Stand Pose:Site Link. The character's naked butt and naked side-breast is too in-my-face.
(The "Japanese" items also have broken thumbnail images, but this seems to be a common issue.)

Thread: Mech Hanger | Forum: MarketPlace Showcase
I don't mean to be nit-picky, but a "hanger" (with "-er") is what you use to hold up your clothes. A "hangar" (with "-ar") is used to hold aircraft, mech robots, etc.
But, that does look like cool place to hold my robot mech's clothes. ;)
Also, you say it's available for free from your site, but do you have a URL you can give us? That would be a little more convenient than having us try to remember where it is.

Okay, here you go:
Dress Pack for Vicky.
This product is a 572k zip file and contains 12 texture and trans maps (in gif format), 1 "reset" MAT pose, 11 style MAT poses, and 15 solid-color MAT poses.
The solid-color MAT poses only change the color of the materials so they can be used with any of the style MAT poses.
Keep in mind that this product was made in 2003- although it works perfectly fine, it's not as refined as my later products. ;)
