Poser used to have sliders back in Poser 1 and 2. (I didn't buy 3) Then Poser started listening to Kai Kraus and just F**** up everything! I originally thought they stole the idea from Bryce.
Not stolen. It was all Kai Krause design, when he was working with Meta Creation in1999. Kai Krause designed the UI for Poser, Bryce and Ray Dream- later Carrara.
I've always hated it. Terrible UI. Especially at that time, when UIs like that had the potential to slow down your computer.

And non content creators, in the poser user base, will never migrate to Blender just to use the REAL cycles or the Realtime EEVEE engine.
Don't be so sure about that. Migrating a Poser scene into a far more advanced software has always been a thing. Back in the days I used Interposer Pro, to bring my stuff to C4D, or I used the Poser importer in Vue. Bringing everything into Blender and learning how to improve your scene by using more and more Blender tools is a big temptation.

Instead of fumbeling some cycles rip off into Poser, it would have been better establish a Blender Bridge. That kind of a bridge for bringing your scene to Blender including cycles materials plus a return for creating morphs for your figures and objects. But all this would not justify an upgrade, for it can be simply done as a plug in. Poser has reached its limits. Unless they don‘t put effort into establishing real humans instead of toons equipped with a technolgy that allows realistic joint bendings, emotions and soft body dynamics. Poser will fall back to a niche software for the stuck in the 2k‘s click and load render people. Renders always advertise the software they use. Look here in the Poser gallery. Is this gallery make you want to buy Poser? Everbody will have his own opinion on this, but why is Poser no longer the market leader?

It's worth upgrading from Poser 9 or 10, but not from Poser Pro 2014. The benefits are just to minimal. the upgrade from Poser 11 to 12 is an expensive joke.

Poser needs something new and rhriling. First it lost ground to DAZ Studio, now it is behind Reallusion‘s IClone and Character Creator and now Meta Human has been released. If Meta Human becomes a real software product not browser app, than nobody will remember Poser anymore. Poser remains stuck back in the 2ks, and Bondware failed to change that.

Daz Studio und Poser sind zwei unterschiedliche Programme. Da kann man eben keine Kompatibilität erwarten. Falls doch etwas in beiden Programmen funktioniert, ist das eher ein Bonus.

If you don't like or use Poser then GTFO of the Poser forums and quit trolling people here. seriously, f*** off.
Aaaah, here you go. If someone was wondering, in what forum he would have landed here, now it's obvious.

The entire point here is that the textures make or break the realism...
At least for close-ups. Figures with a certain distance to the camera do not need mutch detailed texturemaps. Look at some photographs. Even if a face ist just a fraction of the whole image, it is clearly identified as "real face". So, there must be something more than just textures to mimic reality. And no, a complicated "shader" alone doesn't help here...
I don't think there is any one thing that can be changed. You need good textures, that includes the diffuse map, bump map, etc. You need a good shader to put them on. It doesn't need to be complicated, just enough to do what you need. You need good lighting. Textures and shaders don't matter if you can't see them. You need a good pose. Very few people are truly expressionless. If nothing else, there are micro-expressions that we may not recognize but our subconscious sees them.
There's also hair and surroundings, but that's a different discussion.
There are tons of Poser characters. There must be a at least a few with good texture maps, that will do the job.

The shader is very simple. Using the Cycles root plus Principled BSDF means no preview, but the results are more than worth it in my opinion. I had a thread with a bunch of examples, but that seems to have disappeared, so I’ll add my notes here (note that I am perfectly capable of making mistakes!). First, there were only the two maps with this sample, which is why I’m using a normal map (bump is easier to make, set up and adjust).
Specular in Superfly is base reflectance, or direct reflection, or f0; with this node 0-2 are mapped to to 0-16%. Using 0.25 here means 2% base reflectance which seems to work well. I’ve never used a spec map in Superfly yet, they aren’t needed. (NB. with the PBR Metal/Rough workflow as used in apps like Substance Painter and many others, the default would be 0.5 which would be 4% for all non-metals.)
As bagginsbill says, with a good bump a roughness map doesn’t really seem to matter that much (not the case with most materials though, they are important as they define surface relief at a smaller scale than bump or normal maps).
That is great, but now do it on Poser figures. Copy those shaders to the Poser figures and replace the texture maps with the figures' textures. Use the same lights and render setting. All those chopped off model-heads are nice and impressive, but we need results for Poser figures.

Are all of you doing animations? Well, at least I don't, for that simple reason, that a high quality picture takes me about 1 hour to render minimum. So no animation. If I needed a Genesis 8 character in my poser scene, I would open Daz studio and pose, dress and add attached props in there and import the whole thing as an *.obj file into Poser. Tweak some shaders, complete your scene and render.

Show me. And please with SSS in Cycles. And with correct lighting (no tricks like "no shadows").
Sorry for misunderstanding. I am completley with you in this and my comment was meant to be an add on comment to yours.. I was talking about Geo Graft in DAZ Studio. Poser does not support such thing as Geo Graft. What Poser in fact used to have, was the option to replace body parts with props. Is it still in Poser, BTW? And, is there still that Genitalia on-off in the menue?
