Thread: Having trouble rendering out to transparent background for compositing | Forum: Carrara
I did try saving it as a psd, but when i opened it in photoshop elements, I got only the full image as a background layer. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but shouldn't this render out the image in layers? David

I don't know what to say. I turned my computer off and started up again after dinner and things are working. Just wondering is there an upper limit to the number of hairs you can create? Thanks David

Thread: Another newbie question....or two | Forum: Carrara
Thanks for all the answers. I think I may have worded the question wrong. I would like to make clouds that my airplane can fly down through. Basically the angle would be looking down from above the airplane and the camera would follow the airplane down through the clouds to clearer skys below? This is there is a way to do this with out having to place a zillion volumetric clouds by hand.
Also in the terrain editor, is there a way to clip a terrain so that you when I am using grayscale maps that I don't always have a flat ground square surrounding my grayscale map. I'm not sure if I am explaining it very well. In Bryce, in the terrain editor, we can have a slider bar the allows us to define what levels of the terrain are shown. Any brycers out there that can explain this a bit better for me?
Thread: Toon! Pro question | Forum: Carrara
Hi. I'm new so this might not be of any help, but here goes...
What I did when I imported poser people into Carrara, was I selected the toon pro option under render. There should be a little arrow thing next to where it says photorealistic. I clicked on that and selected toon pro. Then I fiddled with the render settings, with full raytrace on, and out comes a toon render. I don't know if that is the same as cell shaded, but I seem to get a decent render by turning off draw lines and up the pixel depth to 16 where I can. It seems to convert the poser model textures into toon textures.
I hope this helps, if not, sorry, I am new.

Thanks Dex for all your advice. The multireplicate in Bryce would allow me to select my object, say a cube, then type in the number of copies I wanted and presto 50 cubes evenly spaced out. Just wondering if Carrara can do this as it would help me create this detailed floating city for my comic.

I'm new too and am loving it. Spent several hours last night and was totally absorbed. Never noticed the thunderstorm till I test rendered something and went to get a snack.
The texture room seems way more complicated than Bryce's (which I might add I never mastered either), luckily I hear there is some user guide for sale that is aimed a newbies like me.
I have the pro version and am wondering if there is a way to (not sure of the terminology) set it up so that it could go through a list of seperate carrara files I want to render them out, without me having to open them one at a time and hitting render?
Also does anybody know what DPI is good for colour laser printing? I'm planning on using to Carrara, Poser, Wings, Photoshop to make a graphic novel as a grad gift for this girl. I have 45 days left, luckily I have the first part of the story written, and can give her the first part if I can't get the whole novel finished.
And I have almost two of the multitude of 3d models I need made.
Can Carrara multireplicate like Bryce?
Thanks for all of your help and sorry Drac for hijacking your thread. I promise to not do it again...maybe :p
Sincerely,
David

Thread: Image Textures on a Spaceship??? | Forum: Carrara
Hi Fran. Sweet ship. So far you're way ahead of me texturing wise. I'm still learning wings. Although it is really nice to know now how to add skys to my scenes without everything vanishing. I bought the pro version of Carrara and there are a number of sky presets. Still trying to decide if I like the bryce sky better or not.
I hope this helps you a little.

Thread: Newbie question(s) | Forum: Carrara
Another question I though up while playing with Carrara. When I import a terrain from Bryce, which I exported at 4096X4096, will Carrara display the terrain at full size on import, or will it only display the full size when you try to move the terrain?
Anyways thanks for your continued support and help.
Sincerely,
David

Congrats Drac. I also bought Carrara and am starting to learn it. Still love Bryce and will be getting version 6, and using version 5.5C
One thing about the download, at least for me, it took an ungodly amount of time. But then my parent's computer is old and slow, and my mac currently is not internet capable.
It's always a pleasure reading your posts, in any forum.
