I believe everyone should at least have Windows 2000 or Windows XP Home Edition. And if we're doing graphics, 512MB of memory is a good working start. Let's not forget that graphics stuff consumes hard drive space. My 30GB hard drive is almost filled with the Poser installation alone. Oh, yes, those of us with older computers face handicaps. I can't go over 512MB RAM because of my BIOS. Other people's computers may not be able to handle Windows XP. But we eventually look at what we want to accomplish, and face the fact that upgrades are necessary. Then we try to find the funds to do just that.

It's funny. You visit the Product Page, and get absolutly no good idea about the features of the program. So when does this guy actually post some usable information? You wany my $90, then you must prove you have a good product, and show good customer service by answering my questions, before I spend my hard-earned money.

Attached Link: Offline CD Browser
c1rcle, I downloaded Whereisit, along with a bunch of other similar software. I ended up with Offline CD Browser because it was the first one of the bunch that I could understand. OCDB has been very good for me. It's always good to see someone else's recommendations. Anyone interested in Offline CD Browser, can get it for free at the supplied link.Thread: PBoost - Much Needed Tips | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
My ultimate answer: 1.) Go over my entire Poser collection, and reorganize everythng properly. I'm talking about the original zip files, etc. Put everything on "themed" cd's (Mike, Vicky, Scenes, etc.) 2.) Run Offline CD Browser to catalog all my new CD's. 3.) Erase my Poser installations. 4.) Start over. Poser 5 allows a real advantage: external Runtimes. I don't install anything in the Poser 5 folder. I install it all in a new folder called "Poser5B." Before I started over, I asked myself what I really used. If I hadn't used something in a few weeks or months, I didn't install it until it was needed, if ever.

If you haven't already started, you might want to backup your stuff. You can rest assured that PBooost doesn't like to delete anything. For example, PBooost will not delete a folder that has content. You can't delete individual items or groups of items. You can delete an empty folder. Sometimes a folder might look empty, but still have something in it. The unseen items may be geometry files, textures, etc. PBoost will give you a warning about that. I usually leave those folders alone and look at them more closely with a file manager program. You might want to sketch out a plan before you actually get started. Here is an idea of banks you may want to create: 1.) Mike 2.) Vicky 3.) P4 characters (Dork, Posette, etc) 4.) Projects 5.) Stephanie You get the idea. Just think of groups or banks of things you will use. Then create those banks and move your stuff to them.
Thread: The tailor 1.1 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Tailor was made before Poser 5 existed. I think Tailor has some database of info concerning the characters it supports? Tailor has a problem with stuff from Poser 5 (even if it is Poser 4 stuff) because Poser 5 inserts extra info into the resources... There is a way to edit the items, to eliminate the extra info, but that is beyond me. I just find the easy way to handle things and stick to it. Let's hope Codetwister decides to update The Tailor for Poser 5.

I think I learned something. If you have troubles downloading something once, you should clean out your Temporary Internet files before you try again. I did that just now and got dear Ole Bertha!

I got all excited about the possibility of learning something new. I gave up after 1/2 hour of fruitlessly exporting and importing Posette. There must be some major inaccuracies in Steve Shanks' tutorial. I see nothing when I load Posette into Anim8or. Oh but I can re-import the object file into Poser and there she is.

I can't download her. I get taken to a Tripod page that refers me back to your site, and then "we go round and round, and get nowhere."

Well you can actually still use Tailor. Just load the character and clothes you are working with, in Poser 4. "Tailor" your clothes, then save them in Poser 4. When you're done, you can copy that stuff to Poser 5, and it works just fine.

Do NOT run Poser 5 until after you've installed SR 2.1. SR 2.1 gets rid of that copy protection scheme that caused some problems. Make sure no other programs are running during the installs. Be sure you don't have an antivirus program running in the background. Be sure to restart your computer after each install. Poser asks you to restart.
