WHOO HOO! I ran the SR3 updater again and it renders like a charm! Sending something that SHOULD have choked the SR2 to see if it can handle it...AND...BINGO...straight through and rendered beautifully... OH THANK GOD..I have a file due to a client tomorrow...and its much faster!

yes it was an original pre SR3...SR2 actually..sorry if I sound really silly, but I'm working on Poser on a PC and I'm usually on a Mac for EVERYTHING else...The original install was P5 SR2. I didn't even THINK about that! I wonder if running SR3 again would help. The reason I did the SR3 update on the clean install was because I had read to do that to avoid the anti-piracy thing before launch. I guess that makes sense since if I moved over the old SR2 files into the new one, it would be overwriting some of the SR3 and blowing things up. I'm not sure how to link a runtime...or if it would be a good idea since they are on two separate drives. I will try the SR3 update on what I've got...if that doesn't work I'll do a full reinstall, but I'm not sure which order to go in... 1. Install Poser 5 2. copy/move/link old runtime? 3. update to SR3, then figure update? ::feeling a bit out of my element now...never let a mac user on a PC!:: thanks for any help you can give!

well...I copied the old runtime into the new one..I wanted a copy of the old version intact in case anything screwed up so I left the old p5 on the main drive. I fired it up and it still works fine but its on SR2. I just read a thread that it could be caused by a corrupt poser.rsr file. See thread: http://www.poserpros.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=15971 I'm trying that now. Other than the blank render everything seems to be in its place and everything has speeded right up...I thought I was home free....lol

Forgot....I read through all the posts here and tried to follow the correct order of loading up a new poser install fully upgraded. Also...This version is running on a new HD...totally clean so no defragging issues there. Running on XP with 1 Gig ram and a clean 120 gig drive. This is an additional one..not the main.

I tried taking out the quiver of arrows and the scene ripped right through the render now in Firefly. It's still a draft but I noticed it didn't hang anymore when itting the arrows point of the render. So its got to be the arrows overall, but maybe its just a shadow on them etc....more experiments to come...

Well....I reworked it a bit..had to get this out as a sample of what can be done with poser for a tarot card set so I postworked it to get what I needed. I DID figure out the cyclorama lighting thing YAY! And I also figuredout how to turn off body handles YAY! (Y'all didn't see that big red cone in her head last time...did ya?) I also had a little better luck with the clothing this time. (Hey..its my first few renders with Poser...never used it or ANY 3d program before, so I'm not too discouraged yet. If I can just get my brain to think in 3d I think I'll be OK! Gotta LOVE this program though!) But after looking at everything I could think of I noticed it's also doing that strange thin shadow thing on her hair as well...Check before and after pics for the rework to see what I mean. Looks like she has big tubes for the long side bangs which is how it looks in "work mode" in poser. Somewhere something wasn't getting turned off. I tried the trans thing and it turned out to be that I had to set the trans on ALL the materials. I was changing it on just the default material that came up in the material room which was "leather" Then I tried doing it on the others: trim collar, trim etc. and voila! The funky shadows disappeared! Maybe it IS just a P5 bug. Thanks so much for your help! When I re render the image again I will put it up with no postwork for you all to see.....::dances around:: BTW...Laurie...you do AWESOME work...

yep she is...the cyclorama background doesn't seem to like bright scenes...at least these particular ones. I tried different llights and got a few of them to lighten it up to make it look like forest daytime though, so I think the final will be ok. The mask trans falloff WAS at .06. I set it at zero but it still does it. I'll check the others you suggested and see. I wish I knew how to get ahold of LauriS who I think did these. The daz store doesn't list her as the author though from what I can see. Thx for thr help!
