I am using a prop from PoserWorld called the warehouse bedroom. Part of the prop is a mosquito net type bed canopy with folds of cloth that cascade down and pool on the floor. Everything is fine with it except that it covers up a part of the "bed" that I would rather not see through a "screen" of material. I tried using UV mapper to "map" the "object" which I guess it really ISN'T an object...confused here...and then made a trans map of it, but all it did was cut holes in the texture that was applied...not trans out the area I wanted.. Is there any way to cut this area out using a transmap? I have circled in the image the area I wish to NOT have the canopy be covering...any ideas? Transmap from UV next post as well as what it should look like with the right transparency...except I would like to cut out the circled red area (only on the curtains) so you have aclear view of the figure...

This is the final render...(needs postwork) with the right "translucency" but not the right transmap..I want to cut out the curtains in the circled red area...

This is the UV map I got from running the canopy in UVMapper...I turned one area black thinking it would do the trans map for the front panel of the curtains...but it just used the whole thing as a tile..and cut a hole where the black was so I got black spots all over the curtains... The black "outline" square area is the frame with rings that holds up the curtains...so I figured the area which is shown in black would be the front panel...so I made it black, thinking it would clear that area...but ..alas..no go..

Judging from the UVMap, you'll have to remap it to make a special transmap. I'd suggest a box mapping and then on the new UVMap black out the part you need to be invisible. Remember to save the new obj with your new mapping and if you're using Poser 4, also remember to delete the rsr in geometries. It can be done, but the current uvmap is apparently not made with that in mind so a remap is needed.

f i were you i would do 2 renders, one with the normal canopy and one without, then in a program like photoshop open up the 1st picture, have the 2nd version as a layer and then erase the parts you don't want & postwork it!.. Thats what i'd do. Maybe that might be a solution. -SimderZ- xXx

You could also use the grouping tool to give that area a new material name. Then make it fully transparent.

Yes using the Grouping tool will probably be the easiest solution. I always forget about that one.

Sorry for the delay folks....sheesh..Holidays .. I decided to just try the render with the canopy on and then off and cut it together in photoshop although I probably will go back and try the numbered idea from Maclean in another post...so far so good, but I haven't tried the grouping tool yet on anything. I didn't like it when I tried it in the hair room which I've also given up on since postworked hair looks so much nicer! But...some day... Still needs work but..here it is now..
