Well Howard, I have ALL my textures in a whole series of categorized subfolders under D:Textures. That's the way I set them up when I just had Bryce and didn't have Poser, and when I did get Poser I just changed references (manually) as I installed everything - so all textures would be in the same area and I would not have to go chasing textures in the usual Poser maze when trying to import to Bryce, where I do ALL my rendering. It always irritated the hell out of me that if you started with the usual ...runtimetextures location you were already 6 folders deep in a path before setting up ANY texture folders - I HATE pointlessly long paths to anything. I have a feeling there are quite a few others who might have done things somewhat similarly. I would suggest that it would be really helpful if you would set up the program so that we could enter a substitute for .......................runtimetextures as a preference so it would ALWAYS go to the alternate location to look for textures, otherwise it would be completely useless to someone like me. I also suggest this as an added preference choice for Pboost too.

Punch cards, 8" floppies, direct hex entry, cassetes? Hhhummmmmppppphhhh! You are all a bunch of young whippersnappers. Why, waaaay back when I started, we used a chisel on a slab of granite, the girl in the next cubicle was named Bertha Basalt, and Fred Flintstone was YOUNG! ;o)
Thread: New Computer and Poser 5 Panic! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
[[If Curious Labs doesn't ask to see my Social Security number, birth certificate, financial records, personal references or my cat's pet license, I'll consider it a hassle-free experience! ]] What about when this Multiple-step hassle is standard for ALL software, and it takes a week or more to reformat & reload a system instead of a couple of days? What about when they decide you've had "too many" authorizations and must be a thief, and cut you off so you have to buy a new copy? I don't think I'll be buying Poser5 either. It'll be interesting to see just how many former customers they terminally alienate with this crap.
Thread: Poser 5, for free? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Gee, what fun! Can I complain about the whiners complaining about the complainers complaining about other complainers whining about whatever? I wouldn't wanna be left out or somethin'. As far as P5 is concerned, maybe in about a year I'll be able to afford to upgrade from my Pentiumsaurus (PII-400), and THEN I might (if lucky), in another 6 months or so be able to upgrade to Bryce 5, and maybe 6 months after that (if VERY fortunate) I MIGHT be able to upgrade to Poser5, only of course by then Poser 7 will be out and Bryce will probably up to V.8 or V.9, and......... Oh, hell, maybe I'd just better shoot myself and have done with it. ;o) P.S. Bitch, moan, whine, complain, grrrrrrrrrrrrowl. (gotta fit in, ya' know). ;o)
Thread: Stupid P4 to P5 Render Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I got the bum/bmp equivalency from another thread, don't remember where, but the thread was dealing with the way some bum bump-maps show things indented rather than elevated, and the fix given was to retitle the *.bum to *.bmp, take it into photoshop and invert the green channel, then save and rename back to *.bum.
Thread: Stupid P4 to P5 Render Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
AFAIK .bum is actually the same format as .bmp. If you rename it to *.bmp you can open it in a paint program and convert to greyscale.

[[I mean would anybody actually PAY for trash?]] Why not? We VOTE for trash all the time. ;o) Actually, since you mentioned it, clothes that are flat like on a bed or partially folded & hung over the back of a chair would be VERY handy - allowing detail to be added to scenes that would make them more real. Please, DO go with this one. I don't have a real big use for trash, but you do it SO well I may have to think up a 'trashy' pic.
Thread: Import max file | Forum: Bryce
Nope neither crossroads, nor 3DWin (better than crossroads) nor any of the others will convert Max files. As far as I know the ONLY programs that will convert max to other formats are 3DSMax itself, and a couple of graphic converters that are in the over-$500 price range. A LOT of people have run up against this one, and have all just had to give up on Max items. SUX, don't it?
Thread: "Bond, James Bond" (DB5 WIP Update) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
There are a whole LOT of people who will be using Poser 4 for the foreseeable future. Like many others, I'll have to upgrade to a better computer before I can get Poser 5, so for me it MAY be sometime late next year, before I can make that change, and there are many others in similar circumstances. No matter how good P5 is, P4 is going to be around for some time yet. Please, make it for P4. P5 will still be able to use it.

Search for "daio" - in freestuff. She has put a number of horse textures and transparencies in there. If you don't find what you need, send her an IM - if she hasn't got what you want, the odds are she'll know where to find it.

Thread: Is Poser really that bad ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I always have to chuckle when I hear yet ANOTHER person bitching that people should be able to use "XYZ" software without EVER so much as glancing at a manual or ANY kind of instructions. There is NO software yet created that can do these hundreds of different things and is yet so wonderfully user-friendly that all you have to do is turn on the program and "bingo" you can do "anything". I'm another one who actually reads all the way thru a manual when I buy the software. At the time it doesn't mean much, but later when I have a problem, I usually can say "hey, I saw something about that, in was on a left-hand page about 3/4 of the way down" (or something like that). Even though a lot of it doesn't make sense that well on the first read, the concepts actually ENTER the brain and later when actually doing things, help make what's going on make some sense. All those who think ALL software should be 100% operable with absolutely NO manual OR instructions are wandering in dream-land. You'll get your wish when, and ONLY when, computers are fully telepathic, and can read your mind and decide what you want before even YOU know it. (And at that point, they'll probably decide they don't need US anymore.) Until then, get real!
