Thread: 3D Animation. "CyberPunk Subway". Created in Carrara. | Forum: Animation
Thanks amileduan.
In this case the render time wasn't too bad. I was able to render with my (mini) render farm (one i7 machine and 2x older machines which added together make another i7 equivilent speed).
The total time per frame over this mini network was quite quick - somewhere between 40-50 secs a frame.
What keeps the render time down is the low poly people with simple shaders. Only the walls reflect the lights and there are not that many lights in the scene.
Thread: Walking up stairs from a BVH or Mocap walk loop Tutorial | Forum: Carrara
Attached Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuPH54J0F3w
In part 2 we witness a live editing session, so you can see how long it takes to get a reasonable walk loop up together. (It's about 20 minutes when you are in practice).Essentially the technique of set up a basic z height map for the stairs to be walked up, then move the feet to fit.
Actually doing this takes a bit of practice though! However I do hope you'll stick with the tutorial because at the end I show the final sequence which if I hadn't got you to focus on the feet movement (so it was being watched for the first time), does the job.

Ah! Here I can help you.
Get Carrara 8 Pro now!
You'll find for anything complex the rendering times HALF! I run 64-bit which helps a bit (not so much with speed, more with larger scene file capacity).
There are still bugs and errors, but if you save your scene file regularly it's not too much of a problem.

Hi. Thanks.
It's a pretty middle of the road i7 based PC with average graphics card etc. The only thing I've really gone "above average" on (although even that is debatable) are the hard drives - 3 of them 2 of which are Sold state drives (the biggest one is 256mb).
If you follow my tutorials on youtube, you'll see (with compromises) how to squeeze lots more into a scene by reducing poly count and texture files and shaders. That's what makes these scenes possible, not so much the machine.

Thanks GKD - It's a long journey, but rewarding!
My background is in computer programming, just as in that environment someone more knowledgable can look at a noob's efforts and see it straight away. Those early episodes make me cringe now. lol.
Still lots more to learn. I guess (hope) at somepoint the major lessons are learn't and it becomes more about refinement.
I still think lighting is the biggest topic of all, and I learn in small chunks for encouragement.

Quote - Coming along very nicely! Look forward to the end results of all your efforts.

Thanks. We are getting there. It will feel almost unreal the day Episode 7 is live. (Probably still not until the end of the year for that one), but "Cyberpunk People" doesn't need too much more before I can get animating!

Excellent work. 3D Modeling is something that eludes me, in Carrara or any other application.
Analog - my tip re: modelling is import any stonemason model into your carrara workspace and just look at what he's done. I've learned simply by taking these models apart and working out (by trial and error) how I could replicate these structures.

But C8.1 scenes open fine in 8.5. I've been using 8.5 exclusivly for, lol over a year lol
I seem to recall I had troubles. Then again I stuff as much info in as it can handle, as all my scenes are masses of models and the like.
Also I can't run with a beta where the licence keeps running out, I'm on this all day most days so I need something stable. And yes I've learned to live with any bugs so I live a fairly hassle free life :-D
