the displacement thing really isnt a good idea. you don't see the terrain till it renders wich is bad if you are placing people and buildings on it. nevermide!

I have never made anything several kilometers wide. but im sure you could do this. you might want to use a hight map that is really hi res. Like at least 4000x4000 or bigger

cloth plane. import hight map and use that as the displacement. I just did this. it works. bryce wll also export the texture if you need those then do the export from bryce. I have done that before and it worked too.

you might want to check "regroup" at the last stage of making the conforming item. if it is clothing for a figure that has dif groups than the one you are fitting it to this will happen.

nope...with gamma off everything looks kinda off and you loose some of the photorealism.
photorealism may not be your goal..in that case do whatever you like. Nothing is wrong or right just whatever works for you.

you should also check out ArtBee's missing manual on corrections. He explains WHY this stuff happens and not just how to fix the problem.
