Thread: Questions about Space Man Spiffs Workshop | Forum: Carrara
I know it's been here for a while, but I only just noticed the topic, and I, too, have a question about this image: Is the crane cable fully modeled, or did you use Carrara physics on it somehow?
This is a great image, I'm very glad I came across it.
I'm also surprised by the render time -- with all the reflections and refractions and the soft shadows. Beautifully done. Once again I see Carrara artwork, which shows me just how powerful the program is and how much I still have to learn abuot it...

Hmmm. Thank you . It looks like it works as it should. And when I try it on a different model it works well too... Strange. But good thing it works. Thank you again for your help!

The bug report must be private or locked. I cannot see it from my account.
And with the surfaces, my problem occurs when you DON'T hide surfaces:
When all surfaces are shown ("Show All" checkbox in the Display section of the UV Map editor) detaching polygons does not appear to take effect and the nearest points are still connected when the "detached" selection is moved.
Can you see this behavior? (I'm using Carrra 8.1.97)

This is a pass layer in Carrara, that usually renders as a separate image (I'm not sure whether it can be embeded or not).Â
When you prepare your individual frames for combining in Photoshop, get rid of the fringe first, then add it as a layer for the gif animation. This way your layers in photoshop won't be dragging confusing maps around.
If you just want to alter the existing GIF, you will need a mask for every layer to consistently get rid of all the fringe.
Also, how are you aligning your layers in Photoshop?

Did you output fragment coverage render pass? It outputs the contour that you see as the white fringe here. Using it as a mask or for selection purposes you can easily delete the fringe from all the images.
I normally use it to get rid of unwanted edges in the alpha channel.

GKDantas, thank you!
Could you point me to the feature request you've placed for the plants? I'd like to add my support. It would be great to have the shading domains preserved.
Detaching polygons only worked when I had just the shading domain of interest showing, for some reason. If I had all domains shown and tried detaching the polygons, they still moved with the connected points. Strange behavior. Is that a bug, or is it meant to be that way for some reason? Also, it could be just my machine.
If you think it's a bug and if you could verify it too, please let me know and I can file a bug report about it.
Again, thank you very much for the help! I greatly appreciate it. You have saved me so much time and frustration!

I'd render the animation frame by frame with alpha channel and make the gif in Photoshop or Gimp or a trial GIF Maker (or any other available utility that can link individual images into an animated GIF).
Would that work or am I misunderstanding the problem?

Yes, the coupon ends on Wednesday, but not all the sales we want to take advantage of extend that far :(

The Bryce that I have is 6.3. I don't have it installed yet. This is a relatively new computer, and I didn't need Bryce after I got it, so I never got to installing it. Is 6.3 the broken one? Do I need to find a 5.5 somewhere?
I'm not very comfortable painting in PS or Gimp and I know very little about noise filters, but I do know my way around those programs. If your tutorial mentions what you did in one of them, chances are I'll know how to replicate it in the other. :)

I'd be very interested in the tutorial. I have Brice, and I tried working with it a few times, but Carrara is easier to use for what I need to do most of the times. But I think Brice probably has its special uses which I simply don't know about. What you are describing sounds just like such a use, so I'd be very glad to learn more about it. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you post a link in this forum when you publish your tutorial, please?
Will this tutorial be applicable to older version of Brice or just the newest one which just came out?
Thank you again for your help!
