Greetings, earnest but ignorant one. ...OK all -- am I who has to exibit the 'tough love' here and explain to the young man about how 'unsharp mask' works? ...How PhotoShop is used to RESTORE image sharpness BACK (just don't over-do it!) to what it looked like before the photograph was RAVAGED by a scanner? ...How PhotoShop's 'levels' allow a crummy hundred and fifty dollar computer monitor to actually DISPLAY some of the details in areas of a conventional photographic print that would otherwise be completely outside of gamut of said monitor? ...How scanning HUGE, and using a world class resampling algorithm, like that in PiantShop Pro (OK, let's not forget PaintShop Pro) will produce a TRUER representation of the original than just 'scanning it small'? OK, I've beat him up for a while -- someone else chime in here once, hey. ...OK, I'm wound a little tight now. ..anyway -- boy, for all he don't know, those pictures look pretty good, huh? Joe

Did they mention DISTILLED water? Did they say that ANY kind of SOAP is ok? Did they mention the special wetting solutions to use in negative washing? I've done darkroom work -- Do you know how easily airborn dust sticks to wet emultion? Did you say "wet the film in water and then WIPE it...with a CLOTH"?? Do whatever you want with a PRINT. It's just a print. I have succesfully washed PRINTS with my hands in regular water and a infintessimal amount of liquid dish soap (never wipe wet emultion with a cloth!), but It's a PRINT. This writer is OUT OF HIS MIND to suggest that you mess with your negatives like that. Negative emulsion is extremely delicate when wet. It is a crime - ablsolute sabotage - to advise this. I can hardly believe this. Is somebody JOKING here? (!) Joe

Gunsan: Way to go! You're freak'n me out! That looks excellent. You just stick around here, man - Look how profitable it is to network with a community of photographer friends. Let's keep working on it - You'll have a piece of fine art. Could the Jumping Man picture be more than the art pictured? YES! - art made for art. Keep working on it - one of the greatest photographs ever taken is Edward Weston's "Pepper No. 30". His probably didn't look this good until.. heck, at least No. 07 or 08! Joe
Thread: Important Q to anyone who can tell me :) Oh and one about contest | Forum: Photography
I believe the most important thing is that the film stay in it's air-tight plastic container. If it's not stored in the container DURING the temp-changes, then condensation can form on the film -- and readily be absorbed into the emulsion. The rule is - ideally - to let the film get to the ambient temperature before opening the container. Also, I read that certain gasses can adversly affect film. I'm not sure about the specifics, but I think it's carbon related gasses - like car exaust, or some solvents; and I think that's for PRINT film - I'm not sure about slide film. I know that we're a diverse community, and all, but what's with this 'of course [my room] is similar to [freezing] outside temps'? Here in Wisconsin, USA, We almost ALL have big'ol heaters! If MY room wasn't, like, 74F all winter, I'd be, like, devastated!.

There's something to this image. I like it. I'm going to try something like this myself... Yeah, this is giving me some ideas. Thanks, Joe

OK -- now I finally took a look at the whole picture on the link. I think that for the purpose of practical display he looks great on that back-board, but for a strong photograph he should be removed from the display board. If you think about it, having him 'pinned agianst the wall' like that takes him away from the idea of jumping or flying or freedom, and makes it a little more like a pitiful gothic crucifix (oops, can you tell I'm a protestant?).

Cool looking sculpture. I think that this one is begging to be taken somewhere and shot 'on location'. Maybe take it back to where you first found the piece of juniper -- is it 'driftwood' from the sea side? Maybe he should be shot somewhere where he can cast a shadow that gives a different perspective of his shape. We should think this through. I think that this could make an extraordinary study. ..Hey! How'bout this; have you seen Sweetwon's shot called "In the Air" (posted in this forum on 12/31? - that rather mimics the jumping man. Maybe you could have an exhuberant child junping off a swing in the background (slightly blurred). ..OK, I'm still thinking...

Thanks Alpha. You guys are allright. I hope that you 'regulars' all realize that the MODERATORS of a forum can, to a very great extent, influence that forum's entire tenor - I mean the manner of progress, or course of thought, the genral character and tendency. We should recognize that we have here with the Renderosity Photography Forum a community that has exhibited a profitable manner of progress, a fruitful course of thought, an ethical character, and a kind and loving tendency. It seems this tenor is to a great extent due to our faithful and wise moderators. Most Sincerely, Joe

Hello. I have been ernestly and excitedly following this forum since I learned about it only a couple weeks ago, and have already developed such a heart for the people I've met here on the photography forum. I've been inspired by the words and photographic work that I've seen. I've been anticipating a long, valuable relationship in this online community. I've never been to the Complaint & Debate forum before today. What I saw today was discusting. ..And, hey, I've been around, and I don't easily blush, OK? I really don't know what exactly Slynk is talking about, but I just saw some rediculus, psudo-intellectual ecclectic drivel; some kind of obcene, childish limrick of some sort; and to top-it-off, a thread complaining that somehow the guts had been ripped out of their beloved forum, and it's some kind of shell of what it used to be [see "where's the beef"]. Is this voilence to my sensibilities and intellect 'toned down' somehow? I may decide to try to forget all about my experience tonight, and try to go on with what I truly thought was some kind of landmark in my life, and my goals to become an artist. But I think it will still bother me that as a member of this COMMUNITY, I apperently DON'T have a voice to influence ethic, because where would I go to COMPLIAN?? It looks like the fox is in charge of the chicken coop.
