Hello! WandW good to see you here. This is a thread relevant post. I have downloaded the newly released FREEBIE from WillDial that Renderosity sent the mailout about. The first portion, the mini tutorial showing how to get the complete G3F from DS4.x into Poser 11/Pro works great. But I cannot move any joints at all. Also, the second part, running Genesis3PoserUpdater.exe results in an error.
The .pdf userguide is simplistic, does not cover installing this tool. Use of the tool is as expected, but the result is not. I have tried a number of ideas, none helped. I use ONLY 64 bit DS 4.8 and 64 bit Poser Pro 11. This util is 32 bit and will NOT install in the Poser Pro 11 folder set in Program Files (of course!). Any ideas why the utility crashes with the same error at every try with any number of saved G3F files?
TIA!

Thread: Daz Studio 4.9 Big Changes Incoming!! | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Wow. I read the first two pages, skipped to and read the eleventh page. I see some current issues.
DATABASE; by definition we all use databases in many forms every time we use our electronic devices. The OS's create and use databases completely transparent to us. We/I use the Poser Runtime file architecture, which is of course, a form of database. One Runtime or dozens, no matter, Databases. Posers are a bit more rigidly structured and adhered to than DS's. Though DS and Carrara have been able to work with the Poser Runtime for many years, they have more complex databasing systems that Poser will never see at all.
DS 4.9: no matter what great new features, improvements and fixes are introduced in this new version, it will remain UNINSTALLED on my system. It will not be used as right after all the file downloading finished and I got them all stored and ready for burning to disk, I noted in some of the forum threads at DAZ (who deleted several of my posts concerning the new issues) that 4.9 is really the vehicle to introduce both "Gun And Bullet"; ergo DRM via enforced internal use only encrypted content.
The ONLY thing DAZ needs to do at this point to absolutely lock this system into place is simply deny access to normal unencrypted zip files through the Product Library.
Clearly MANY people have been in the know about this for the last two years at least. A number of DAZ "inside" people jumped ship, a good sized handful even started their own company.
About that Gun And Bullet thing. I have been a happy, paying and honest user at DAZ alone for almost a dozen years. I am no thief, nor a liar. And in dealing with "business" as an employee in several sectors of economy, I have learned that WHEN a business creates a "Gun And Bullet" situation, said business has shot that bullet 100% of the time. This is not a disgruntled paying user talking. This is an experienced troubleshooter. The first axiom to work by is "KNOW THE PROCESS". Well, that process is abhorrently simple, easy to dismantle and examine. DAZ WILL FORCE USE OF ENCRYPTED CONTENT. It doesn't matter that I alone paid their asking price for thousands of items, accepted happily free items and discounts of all sizes, and paid full price for some stuff too. It doesn't matter that thousands of other people have done the same or bought even more than I have. Many have bought more than I have! And we are ALL SEEN AS THIEVES! This is true because we are treated as a thief.
I am not going to argue ANY of this with the "PA's", the "Vendors" the content creators and sellers. YOU people are the ones who have created the US and THEM scenario, granted it was egged along for YEARS by a few individuals. Well, YOU and US exists. Not any good for anyone actually. "YOU" created a sort of mini egalitarian society within OUR (YOU and US equals OUR, yes dammit it really does!) OUR community. I accepted long ago that OUR community covers more than the half dozen 3D sites I use, and also includes several dozen web based forums. I have watched for a dozen years, and I learned 25 years ago there is and never will be ANYTHING PRIVATE in the online world. Security is an illusion. Honesty is not. Truth is not. Thieves are also a truth. I do MY part in this. I pay, I use according to honest rules, I do not engage in any form of casual piracy.
So I am hurrying up and trying to get ALL my DAZ content backed up with their zip files. In this process I found there were some items I never even downloaded. Argh! I can hope but do not expect DAZ to hold off locking out non-encrypted users for long. That is the gun and bullet and DAZ Sales Managers finger is very itchy on that trigger.
We all THINK we know what is gonna happen. Nobody will until it actually does. We will see, soon enough.

Thread: Free legit Adobe apps, from adobe! :) | Forum: Vue
Adobe posted a "mild disclaimer" in that public space. Adobe used a judgement word suggestively. Adobe did not state a requirement for use. I don't need any of those apps, having bought CS4 Extended. I do not see dishonesty in the general public downloading and using any of those apps with the wording of that disclaimer.

Pain Shop Pro 5 through 10 minus v.6 - just cause it's literally the poor bodys image creation software.
POSER 6, 7, Poser Pro 7.0.4 and P9. Cause it's great, it's FUN, it's intuitive enough to get nice results in for a beginner and has a wealth of advanced features too.
Vue 6 Infinite - cause there isn't anything I've found for creating vistas and atmospheres as scene 'stages' like VUE can do it! Plus, the Vue materials are wonderfully easy to work with. AND I got my full retail copy for a great low 'coupon' price.
Modo 401 - cause after buying 301 at release time, I truly believed I'd be an expert modeler by now!!!!! That has NOT happened, but I still marvel at and am excited by all the cool stuff you can do with it.
ZBrush 4R5 - I bought ZBrush 2.5, and thought I'd be modeling like an expert with it by now also. Like Modo, I marvel at and am excited by all the great stuff I see done with it.
Modeling 3D in general; I WILL 'get it' eventually!!!!!
Adobe Creative Suite 4 Extended - I am a photographer. An "Amateur In LONG Standing" as it were. I just love taking pretty pictures, be it clouds, bugs, cars, birds, sqwerls, rocks, my kids, their kids etc. You get the picture. I TOOK IT! LOL! I got going with Minolta 'M' 35mm cameras in the mid 80's. Still have several bodies and couple dozen lenses. Most of that from pawn shops. Then I found DIGITAL imaging. First digital camera was a Kodak DC-10. I've used Olympus gear now for about 11 years. Currently I still have an E-510 and E-3, with almost 30 pounds of lenses. 3 Sigmas and a couple Oly Zuikos. I began shooting RAW only in 2006, when I discovered that 12 bits give me greater dynamic range than 8 bits. DOH! Ah, but Adobe bought out Pixmantic, the authors of RAW Shooter Premium, my image development software of choice. Adobe gave me Lightroom1 free! I PROFANE on that because of the nasty filthy separation of User (me!) from my File System with its "organizer" thingie. I started computering when I could. The machines I built were called by the processor used. Mine were, in the late 70's, Zilog Z80 based. I spoke Assembler fluently! I adored file systems when it became possible to USE them! I still adore them! At the suggestion of Mr. Ron Lacey I tried the trial version of CS3 Standard. What I got with that and Camera RAW 4 was outstanding for my photography. So, I coughed up the $600.00 for it. Thought I was gonna croak wih all that coughing, BUT I survived and my photography flourished. And I STILL used PSP X!!! Mostly cause I didn't know HOW to do stuff in PS. Well, years later I bought the E-3 and ACR4 didn't support it. I upgraded to CS4 Extended to get the additional RAW support AND 3D support. And I learned quite a bit about using PS, the brushes, actions and LAYERS. HOWEVER; PS layer editing is so archaic compared to PSP X I STILL use PSP X for lots of stuff. And Copy/Paste from PSP to PS all the time. The upgrade to CS4Extended was $400.00 ALL THAT STUFF! That was all bought when I was working and the kids were all grown and had families of their own and I suddenly had nearly a grand a month extra I hadn't had in 25 years. It was like getting a nice fat raise! Yeah that was fun. So I still have all that software, and I still use it and I still love having ALL that capability even if I don't know enough to maximize on it. And I finally came to see, that MY real enjoyment didn't come from the money at all. My joy comes from what I DO with the stuff I buy. The machinery and software have to work together with ME. So, as I see it, in my own personal opinion - IF you are doing what you want with what you got and you're happy; hang the rest! You've made it! And what I love doing is using all my computering resources and coming up with pretty pictures. This has been my dream since I was a kid back in the McCarthy Administration Daze. And we have so MUCH now that I have actually surpassed my own DREAMS folks.
Look, Adobe may have 'accidentally on purpose' let this "slip". Well I don't think a ton of titles like has been 'slipped' is a slip up! Ha! Nope, I think they have simply quietly let the old cows out to pasture and tore down the barn. I hope that's what happens with these old titles. The one thing it may do FOR Adobe is to tick off the old pirates. :)
Yeah all that software cost me a pretty penny. And I bought more than that; this stuff is just what I use NOW and keep trying to learn to use. It cost, and it's also been well supported. Smith-Micro, Adobe, PixoLogic, Luxology, DAZ and even e-on have helped me with any technical issue I've had. Yet I wouldn't have even thought about buying PS if I hadn't had a NEED that it met in a way that suited me fine. For me, it's ALL worth it!

PING StaceyG - ok I now have all my Long Lost Files rescued via LinuxMIINT 12 Gnome and it's very useful file system and drivers. Which had no problem reading the older Linux format Buffalo used and no problem reading/writing to Win 7's NTFS format. Ha! Windows won't see any Linux nuthin! 200 gigs of stuff found and copied over to a spare NTFS drive. Back in Windows now where I know my way around. Whew!
The Sira Black files aren't named the same way they are in our downloads here. Most likely, Rhi sent them like I thought. But I definitely do have them, so this entire thread needn't have happened I guess. But I appreciate your help getting things figured out!
Mike

It's people who did 'stuff like that' that cemented a loyal bond with me. Every where I've gone in the 3D world there have been people like this. Friendly, kind, generous and always willing to give their hand in help. I try to follow their example, and fall down on it quite a bit. But I get back up. And I go on again. Cause there's a hand, ready to help me up. :)
GOOD Morning!

Well, I can think of two other possibilities. Back 'when', there were some vendors that would put little 'treats' in their readme's. "You got this far SO email me for x,y or z! Or, they'd have a 2-Fer sale or the like. Buy any 2 and get one of your choice free. I'm not sure Rhi did that, but it's a possibility. And if it is either of those, then I'm barking up the wrong tree looking for it in any store account. My brains ain't young any more and the meds ain't helping memory out any either! LOL! I just can't remember which or what it was!
Looks like I'll have to get the data off that other HD to be sure. I never did so good with Linux though! Argh.
Thanks for your time Stac!

Stacy, I don't remember. It was quite a long while back. I'll see if it's in my old history at S-M.
Wow, talk about the Way Back Machine! I don't see 'Sira' or even Rhiannon in 8 full pages of orders from the old CP account. There are a bunch of 'partners' listed and Renderosity items. No Sira Black there though.
I have it installed, and I know I paid for and downloaded it, presumably from Renderosity. I've downloaded all my account orders. I'll search for it on my hd.
All my old purchase downloads were/are on an old external ethernet drive. Everything on it up and vanished about 18 months ago. I just learned the data is intact but it's a LINUX format. Or rather Linux does see the data. So I'll have a chore ahead of me yet to recover over 200 gigs of saved files.
Anyway, I'm sure I did buy Sira Black. Just not positive where. RDNA and DAZ never had it, so that's out. And the only possible stores are those, CP and Renderosity.
I'll get back with you on the orders. Thanks Stacy!
Michael
