I think for me the fastest way would just be to loop cut each line, eyeball it as close as possible, and then merge the vertexes.
I just looked at using a boolean op, but it doesn't see to work well for just edges.
If someone else has a better method, I'd be interested in hearing it as well.
Good luck.

Quote - I finally finished making my changes. Turned out subsurface and bevels were just what I needed. The first link is the (more-or-less) finished product, the 2nd link is a closer view of the hilt.
Wow.. That looks really sharp now! Great job.

Fixed it..
Edit mode - duplicate all vertexes - delete the old ones.
Seems ok now..
I sent it back to ya..
P.S. Just noticed you have some surface normals facing the wrong way.
Thanks for the challenge.. I love a good mystery, Scooby.

I see the problem.. although, I'm not sure how you got there.
If you select the object and press 'N' to bring up the properties, you can see the object properties.
For the manipulating bounding box dimesions, y is 2.579, z is 0.652 and x is 10000.00.
Not sure how to get around this at the moment, I've tried exporting it as a .lwo and .obj and importing it with out any luck.
I've also just tried to duplicate the object with shft D and alt D with out any luck.
Attempting to change the scale immediately puts y and z in perspective relative to the x value and flattens the object out.
I'll keep working on it for ya.. see if I can come up with something tonight.

Quote - I have been trying to figure this out for a long time now but I dont know what I've done wrong or how to correct it. Essentially, I have made this object and when finished, went to move the objects origin. Went into object mode, selected the object and hit Centre New. Phoooof!!!! It disappears completely, no sign of it Nada.... No mesh, No Data, No Origin, Nothing. Tried checking other layers, duplicating, moving, copying, exporting/importing in different formats checking for stray verts etc., decimating the mesh to the extent of it becoming unrecogniseable. Still happens. I've reached the end of my expertise (which isn't extensive). Any ideas? I really don't want to remake the mesh again unless absolutely necessary. I have a .blend file if you want to see what I mean. Thanks in advance.
Hmm... Maybe pass the file to a couple of other people.. see if they can find it. No back-up copies? Did you try to undo after it happened originally?.
Did you check the Outliner to see if it's listed?
Sometimes with me.. if the object's scale is to big or small or it's far from the camera.. the 'clipping distance' set on the camera may make it invisible. It usually happens when it's too big. I believe scale everything down seemed to cure the problem.
I'd be happy to check for you if you want. reddogzip@yahoo.com

Thread: game engine really slow/unstable on ubuntu | Forum: Blender
Quote - I'm wondering if maybe I shouldn't just get a new card. It's 5 years old, but it's a good card and it works perfectly fine in XP. But Vista, which is now dual-booted on here, doesn't like it too much either, and I'm pretty sure the problem there is the driver, too. That's probably fixable, though. And I'll keep working on getting the linux driver to work. It seems a bit silly to get a new card not because I need a better GPU but because I can't get a driver for it.
I'm sure I found a list somewhere of tested drivers that worked with Linux. Sorry, I don't have the link handy. You may want to look it up before you decide to buy one.
I think the newer ATI card drivers are on there. I had an older ATI card that didn't work. I believe the 9700's (Like cog metioned) were tested to work.
I think the list may have been on the blender home site somewhere.

I was running Blender from PCLinux for a while. From what I remember from researching things, graphics drivers for Linux are tough to find and difficult to get working when you have them.
Finding a card with OpenGL drivers (that work for Linux too) is the problem. You're error messages seem to be referring to the OpenGL drivers issue.
I remember mine was very laggy as well in LInux. Trying to get the drop down menus to work became slower and slower..
I thought I read some "Blender News" where they discussed revamping the whole interface so it is not so dependant on OpenGL in the future.
I remember using a pyhton script I found that would list the status of your video driver and/or the OpenGL drivers you're using.
Good luck. :)

Quote - Okay... go to http://www.cgsphere.com/gallery/details/?submission_id=3620. I think the piece needs more work, but frankly, I am very tired of it. I must move on to other things.
I think it looks great. That's you render from Blender?
You're laser look good. I'll have to try out your method.

Yes... I'm much faster at modeling than before. It's much cleaner looking now too. I took more time to roll the edges over so the pieces look thicker.I think he's ready to rig now.

I agree with Halo. I usually model - add subsurface - then go back and cut in edge loops where I need sharper lines.
I usually hit "k" then select the top one for edge loop. (CTRL - R works too).
You've inspired me to start the remake.

Quote - Hard edges won't help you if you're rendering in DAZ studio, but you can do bevels in blender. There's a script in blender called "Bevel Center" that can help you with that. It works just on the edges you have selected rather than the whole model. You'll probably want to change the size to something really small like .01 (you'll have to enter that by hand, the slider won't do it, but you can change that after you've hit the bevel button so you can keep messing with sizes :) The smaller the bevel is the sharper the edge will look.
Chage to a script window. Scripts - Mesh - Bevel Center.
Or the whole mesh while in Edit mode - W - Bevel.

I'm looking forward to seeing the Original 3 again. The Empire Strikes back is my favorite. The newer ones have better effects of course. At times I think it's overwhelming. I think the older ones had less "Flash" to them so you could focus more on the people and their actions. If that makes sense.
If I do remake the trooper.. I'd share it. Just don't let me forget.

I like to help. I hate to see people get discouraged with Blender before they realize how much they can do with it.

I just started watching them with my daughter. We just finished Episode 2 the other night.
I was considering a remake / completion of my stormtrooper outfit I made for DAZ Mike before. It was looking really well then, but my modeling skills have improved a lot since then, so I'm sure I could improve on it. Maybe even finish it.
You saber looks good. :)
