but using PHIBuilder - and doing Hierarchy convert from File (P5 & PPP) - wouldn't recognize those 2 items (rest were ok) until I added the obj information. Is this a PHIBuilder thing or a problem with RDS/Carrera OBJ export? I actually developed the crane character in Autocad2k so can manually do something different if that helps. If I import the prop - crane - all the material and groups are recognized; just in case that means anything... BTW, thank you for your help as my client is biting at bit to manipulate the crane for a training cd.

You mean go to each item and insert their actual obj file Like I had to do with TackleAndEndCrane.obj and ExtensionHydraulic.obj?
Thread: memory question for Poser 4 on Win 98 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
curious labs has a memory updater [download page] for 4.03 and propack (which is supposedly for >2g mem). Don't know if it really worked but have not had same problems as you with win98SE, 512m, and the memory updaters installed. I also use quite a bit of harddrive dedicated to virtual memory. My usual renders are around 500 frames of animation on average and MSOutlook blue screens me more than P4 w/propack.

Thread: Virtual Mem Page File and Poser 5 | Forum: Poser Technical
Am running xp pro P4 2.8 with 1gig mem and have done up to 780frames at intense firefly production settings with no problems. However, when I was using my old P4 1.8 with 512m mem and high production settings - I did get virtual memory problems and had to allocate more blank disk area for mem then when done with render - reboot. Which is why I bought the 2.8 ;-) I'd check to make sure you have v-mem set high and enough harddisk to cover it as I note that around 300th frame - my harddisk is blinking away and I have nothing else running - not even screensaver.
Thread: Poser 5 upgrade question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
You may want to use part of that tax return to also upgrade computer. I switched from 1.8P4 w/512meg mem and gobs of harddisk to 2.8P4 w/1g mem and more gobs of harddisk. The actual opening of the program - still slow; but once I begin production rendering - it is as fast as if I was using poser4 render and I set buckets to 5 and raytrace to 6 for detail. I am not happy with all features as all features still aren't working properly but for rendering and setting materials, and hair - is worth upgrade.

Thread: P5 or Propack - your opinion please. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Am working on a learning Cd also with 2 characters and basically I do all my setup, mimic, poses, etc. in P4 with propack and then save. However, I actually write out the png files using P5. In production mode, I actually get far better detailing for the face which is what I need [w/P5]. However, I shutdown/crashed 2 many times even with newest computer (1gmem, 2.8 ddr400 and only p5 installed with max virtual mem on empty secondary disk) on P5 to trust it as the developer/animator on this fast track project. My sound and animation worked almost exactly in firefly render as it did with PPP but had to tweak the mouths a little bit due to the better render details. All are being created/rendered at 24fps - if that helps. Good luck!

Thread: is poser a professional tool ? | Forum: Poser Technical
PLEEZE dont make it any harder!! I can do autocad in my sleep so know that i understand 3d but sometimes - well, let's just say with Poser 5, poser is hard enough!
I think poser is one of the best professional tools a programmer (duh, only talent i have after 20+ years is programming) can have and for our artists here - i can only hope to see work as good as yours on ads, in films or in art galleries!
Keep up the good work and figure that teacher probably never tried using the software before looking down her nose - a lot of us do that in life; unfortunately and good luck with your class!
Thread: Simple Texture Question? | Forum: Poser Technical
hmmm, I actually load the template on one monitor and the paint shop pro on another (dual monitor is only way to go!) with a jpg already provided and begin changing colors and adding layers for modification. the template actually gives me an idea of the curves/lines of the object. Tried using 3d paint programs but am a clutz who cant afford wacom tablet!
Good Luck! and again, great start on your site.
