Did someone mention my name? Yes, I have moved several threads to the copyrights forum because I thought they could get better answers there. No, I didn't make a post saying "this thread moved" because, frankly, I never thought of it. I always get ebots for everything, and it didn't occur to me. (Not being much of a lurker, and not being afraid to jump right in a thread, like this one- hi, Jeff!) If that's what people would consider proper courtesy, though, I'll try to do that in the future.

I love the thread, it has good info. Just, if you need to post more images, try to post a link to the image in the gallery. We can break it down into more coherent form later, if everyone wants- sort of a multi-author fractal tutorial.

Honestly? Most of the answers are "I don't know yet". Audre is teaching me how to do contests- I sort of hit the ground running here as mod. I will find out as quickly as I can. I know Audre is supplying the prizes. Good point about the threads- I'm on a dialup, and I don't dare look at the entries until I have to. I'll definitely work that out for the next contest, this one if I can.

My keyboard is old, I have to really pound on it sometimes. ;] I just want you to consider that not everyone has a superfast connection. A link to the appropriate image in the gallery would be fine, at least in cases of 5 or more images in a single post.

Mainly because we're having our own discussion along the lines of ... "Hey, did you see this post?" "Yeah, that looks like a good idea" "What's the best way to do that to make everyone happy?" "Like this" "Nah, like that." etc... Personally, I like the idea or a "Member Photo Gallery", as well as changing the header line to read "A place for members to post a photograph of themselves. Anyway, we are working on it, as I type! Thanks. ;]

I get it. Kind of like a "shallow end" gallery for people to accustom themselves to critiques, and for the input to be strictly monitored. Great idea! Have you thought of possibly just co-opting the beginner's gallery for that?

It's not what you say, it's how you say it. There seem to be those who think that any sort of criticism in gallery posts should be forbidden. To prpperly address this, you have to understand two things- the purpose of gallery images, and the nature of criticism. IMHO, the entire site is dedicated to artists who, regardless of their educational level, are trying to improve in some way. One of the available elements for this is feedback from one's peers. Cirticism can be a powerful tool for improvement if used properly. What we have is a moderated system. Constructive criticism- along the lines of "for improvement, it might be better with x, x, and x"- is welcome. Unnessecary criticism of the artist or image- "this s*x, you stink"- can be deleted by the moderators. In the absence of a perfect system where everyone understands the value of constructuve criticism, this is the best we can do. Value the good ones, ignore the bad (and report the really bad). I would not, however, let a few bad eggs ruin the whole benefit for everyone.
