Quote - Is there a way to give the Poser people multiple limbs? I got my father interested in Poser 7, and he wants to add multiple arms that move independently of each other
Not directly, and not with "Poser people," if I understand your meaning.
You'd need to either create a new Poser-compatible model with multiple limbs rigged with the necessary "bones", or else buy or commission one from a modeler (tends to be expensive, but then so are the best modeling programs).

Quote - Well more companies are going back to installing XP and Microsoft are releasing more serial XP numbers for manufacturers as not enough in circulation.
As long as security threats continue to grow, most "XP companies" will move back to Vista fairly soon if it proves itself the more secure solution, or so I believe.

And in 3 years time Microsoft will release Vienna or windows 7 if they can make up their mind on name, even if their some hiccups in it.
Ill stick with XP 32 and XP 64 then if i have to update windows i ca bypass vista straight to Vienna or 7 whatever they call it.
Power to you ... but I remember a lot of similar sentiments for the first year or so after XP was released and XP caught on anyway.
And Microsoft was rather over the originally stated Vista release deadline, so ... for the time being ... I can hang on to my doubts about Vienna being released in 3 years, can't I?

Quote - I still dont get why anyone would want to torture himself with Vista - i mean what for? My XP is running fine and unless i really really have to i dont see why i should get Vista. It just slows down computers, makes many applications slow or not working at all and bugs me with nasty security notices. Doh!
My Tip: Forget Vista, use XP and you'll be a winner.
Winner? For now? Yes. But sometime very soon? Not likely.
I sympathize with the sentiment, but the fact is, Microsoft will stop security updates for XP sometime in the near future. Other software developers will increasingly move toward Vista and do the same with (i.e., stop releasing security updates for) old XP compatible apps in the next couple of years. That means known security issues in XP and related software will not ever be fixed, and those known vulnerabilities will become very common knowledge to those inclined to take advantage, and that means your computer will be increasingly vulnerable to criminals, malware infections, etc.
And of course new hardware, development frameworks, and all such capabilities in general, will be increasingly supported in Vista, and less and less supported in XP, i.e, performance and capabilities should continue to increase substantially as Vista matures. Not so much, XP.
So you and everyone else using XP should be relative winners for, oh, about the next year or so. Maybe. But even forgetting any performance advantages, as malware has increased about 175% over this same period last year, and the rate of increase does not currently show any signs of slowing ... well ... security, at least as much as performance, is likely to become a pressing issue for many.

My experience is that Vista64 is about half and half, i.e., half improvement and half annoyance (and in a couple of respects, actually broken (I think, at least in comparison to XPSP2)).
You may find it okay for Vue 6 and Poser 7 use -- although all recent Vue 6 releases seem a bit picky about hardware in any case -- but if you hope to use it (Vista64) for very much else, I think I'd wait at least until SP1 has been released and has more or less proven itself.
I started to make the move to Vista64 a couple of months ago. It's been relatively okay, but if I'd known what I know now, I think I'd probably have waited another 4 to 6 months.
Thread: Somebody more is having trouble with Xstream 6.5? | Forum: Vue
A friend of mine has all the supposed requirements and oodles more and he can't keep 6.5 running on his system more than about 3 or 4 minutes before it takes a dive of one sort or another, and support has not been able to help him much so far. Previous recent releases haven't fared a whole lot better, not on his system anyway.
And judging by the state of their user forums, he's got plenty of company.
Fortunately, I never upgraded.
Good luck to you. Seems with 6.5 you are likely to need it.
Thread: Poser upgrade for sale; is this okay? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Tom, thanks for the input.
Actually, I did consider the contest thing for a while, but a previous inquiry about holding a contest here at Renderosity elicited no response. That was a couple of years ago, and I admit I did not follow up on it like I should have. Nevertheless, I am sure that experience had a bit to do with feeling like it might be a hassle, or that I might be too much of a nobody -- from the point of view of some -- to do such a thing.
Again, the feeling was probably not justified, but there you have it. In any case, I did not pursue the idea.
Instead, I decided to let my mom sell it. She is on a fixed income. She keeps the money. Not that it matters one way or the other, but I did not profit from the sale, not in any direct sense anyway, i.e., I suspect she will bake me a cake or something .... ;*)

Well, I don't want to get into specifics as I don't want to get anyone into trouble, but a rep essentially told me it is up to me, that I may yet get into some trouble with the legal department, but that essentially this can be sold as such since she, er, he or she, knows I am honestly representing it as new, unregistered, and unopened. (Believe it or not; I don't really care.)
So I guess the auction is still on, at least until further notice, and I'm hoping if the legal department doesn't like it, that the advice from their own rep will kinda, sorta suffice to get me off the hook.

I did not realize when I listed it that e-frontier has a thing about such auctions. (I guess I don't read all these TOS and EULAs as carefully as I once did.)
I sent them an email explaining that I did not intend to cause any trouble. I have not heard anything back yet, but may tomorrow, er, later today.
Since e-frontier knows for a fact that it is not pirated and new (since they gave it to me), maybe they will make an exception for me. If not, i.e., if I have to cancel the auction, very sorry to any and all interested parties in advance.
Thread: Poser upgrade for sale; is this okay? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Technically, I did not buy it. I purchased the upgrade and was sent 2 copies. I was originally charged twice. But this was all a mix-up. An e-frontier rep reversed the charges for one of the copies (I should still have a copy of that email somewhere) and told me to keep it, to give it away or something. The rep said nothing at the time about having to transfer the license, and if giving it away is okay, why is it not okay to sell it? As I did not really purchase and have never opened this particular copy, I don't see why I should be bound to the eula. But then, what do I know?
In any case, sorry to bother everyone.
Thread: Why I hate EF and Poser 7 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
LostinSpaceman, I was not trying to compare Poser to AutoCAD. My intention was merely to point out how very spoiled we all are these days. I say 'we' and I include myself. And it's nice to be spoiled. But it's worthwhile sometimes, too, or so I think, to be reminded of it. It tempts one not to whine quite so much.
As for your 'poor reading', it was probably my poor phrasing. I said 'that very very basic system.'
Well, it was considered anything but basic back then, but its capabilities would be considered exponentially basic by today's standards. I probably should have better clarified my meaning.

LostinSpaceman, I met my ex in July of 1985 and I think I was working on the 286 at the time. Also as I recall, Compaq came out with it first, actually before IBM. I said 1984. It was an estimate. I couldn't remember how long I had been using it, I just think I was using it when I met her. Maybe not. The memory's not what it once was. Maybe I was still working on the Tandy, but I don't think so. In any case, to buy that 286, along with AutoCAD, along with a B size HP plotter, along with about 4 hours training cost $12,000. At least that's what it cost the company. Maybe they were overcharged, but I saw the invoice. I assure you.

hoppersan2000, and others who feel "seriously BENT OVER," I guess I'm showing my age, and it may not make me very popular around here to say it, but -- having started with a Radio Shack TRS-80 computer, and only beginning to get semi-serious when the company I worked for bought a Compaq 286 and Autodesk's AutoCAD back in about 1984 (and that very, very basic system then cost $12,000.00; yeah; lest anyone think I made a typo, not $1,200, but $12,000 - (and how much more would that be in today's dollars?)) -- I just gotta say today's Poser users are SOOOOOOOOOO spoiled!!!
But of course ... not that I mean that in a bad way ... ;*)
Thread: P7: Did they fix crosstalk?????? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I too think Crosstalk was gone as of P6, maybe even P5 (but P6 sounds more right to me), but I also seem to recall there being some other problem that was somewhat similar. (Sorry. That's the best I can do. I haven't been Posering that much lately.)

I purchased a book Amazon said was to be released 6 months ago. It has yet to be released. For what that's worth.
