no, i am at 1280x1024 as well. maybe it's a browser issue? i'm using opera 8.53. the decision of the PtB to not offer basic stylesheets so that people can change to colours and font sizes that don't hurt their eyes bothers me a lot (stacey said in the community forum that yeah, it was "fun" to change colours, but it'll just take a little while to get used to the new forums -- i suggest people with vision issues express their opinion of how "fun" it is to have one's eyes burn). choosing branding over usability is just ... foolish. the lack of BBcode doesn't bother me at all, on the other hand. i prefer sites use html instead of other coding solutions. they want to re-sell the forum software? rolls eyes. a less-capable phpbb imitation is needed by whom exactly?
Thread: Anybody like the new forum? | Forum: Community Center
overall i prefer this type of forum to the previous one, but i could do without items that just waste bandwidth: - avatars -- ok, so it personalizes the entry some, but please, don't make yours blink - giant smilies -- give me a break, are we preschoolers here? - quoting an entire post instead of only a relevant sentence -- KILL - large images in signatures -- KILL, EAT i expect the post bumping and marked-read update and search engine will be fixed, and most of the above is guided by community behaviour, so i am hopeful this'll end up being a more usable place.

there is a veritable cactusload of tutorials out there; here's just one. use google, and join the poser-specific forums on various 3D sites, there are many more available than what google finds. i think planit3D had a most excellent photorealistic skin one, but i can't find it in my bookmarks right now.

350 downloads doesn't seem much for a site that has this much traffic, so i wouldn't be so sure about somebody direct-linking -- why not check your referrer logs? you can see where people come from then. and if you really hate it, a little code can prevent it. it's pretty normal that the number of downloads is vastly greater than the number of thank-yous; witness viewings vs comments in the galleries. most people just don't say anything. thank you for the great freebie!

Thread: Sexism?... | Forum: Community Center
People renders less male characters because there are really less stuff for male Universe. i really don't think so. if you look at the galleries carefully, you will find that even women render a lot more nude women than nude men, and as lucie said, you don't need any clothes to render nudes. furthermore, whenever i've heard human representational art discussed elsewhere it turns out that, sexual fantasies aside and from a purely aesthetical point of view, people vastly prefer the female form to the male one. i don't share that view, and i wonder how much of it is cultural, but there it is. certain very popular subgenres here have no male component at all -- you hardly ever see any male fairies, for example. no, i'm afraid in this case people prefer oranges over apples, which is too bad for those of us who like more choice of apples. we all just have to learn modelling. :)

no. :) a friendly bit of advice for the PtB: you really don't want to force people to view things your way these days; those days are long gone, and you just piss people off if you take options away from them. and you can't be serious in suggesting that the only way to get a choice of different styles is to switch browsers! while i am all in favour of ditching crappy browsers, that's simply not good customer service.
Thread: How do I customize forum appearance ? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
well, i for one do not want the text to spread out over 100% of my screen; that's way too wide for reading relatively short messages. it looks good to me as it is now, but i also don't have a weird narrow strip in the centre. this might well be affected by the profile settings -- i have my menu set to "right", and that results in the forum sitting to the left of it, taking up about 4/5 of the screen. the colour scheme does hurt my eyes -- while most people seem to like black on white, i hate it with the consuming passion of a colourful universe :). but i expect that, like the marketplace conversion, we're seeing only the initial phase right now, and additional features will be added as the bugs are ironed out. in the meantime, a click of a button makes my browser switch colours; i love opera.
Thread: Good job with the php format, guys.......very different look...... | Forum: Community Center
i really like the new forum setup overall; i find it so much easier to use. and considering how the marketplace conversion went, i am fairly certain that the problems will get ironed out in time. so, thanks to those who make it all happen!

how about actually including the text of the new reply? then i don't need to do any clicking unless i have something new to say.

unfortunately. :/ few things are more annoying to me than trying to read text when there are things moving left and right; it distracts my visual cortex. luckily my browser, opera, has an option to turn off gif animation -- i am replying here to let other people like me know there's a fix for the problem -- check your browser settings.
