You do NOT need to use UVmapper. But Grouper (see previous threads for URL) is very helpful. I/O errors seem to result from various problems; sometimes just lack of memory. Malformed props/clothes can indeed be a problem also. It's not necessary to move the texture files around as long as you don't mind directing Bryce to the correct directory when you load the .obj. I keep all mine in Poserruntimetextures. Once Bryce has been shown the correct place for one of the files, it will find any others in the same directory by itself.

Thank you for both of those. I believe that technically what you have there is a pillory. Stocks are for the feet.

Flipping textures files in a paint program is doing it the hard way, when you can flip it internally in Bryce without having to create a new file.

If Bryce can batch render I've missed that. I've never found a way to get Bryce to render without running in full screen mode. Curvature is simple: bring up Bryce, turn haze off, put in some cumulus clouds. Note the way they go all the way to infinity getting smaller and smaller unless you have haze on? You can stand in Saskatchewan and you won't see that, because the horizon is about 4 miles away. In Bryce the horizon is at infinity, which looks very unrealistic. Vue has been able to model the curvature of the earth since v2 - why not Bryce?

It doesn't matter WHAT you have selected when you export. A window appears with everything in your scene and offers to export the lot (except the ground). If you only have one figure, you just accept it. If you have two figures and you only want to export one, uncheck the one you don't want. Once you have the 3.1 patch, Poser works very nicely with B3D and I never had much trouble. Bryce 4 is a lot better, though - for a start, it's a lot quicker at importing obj files. You still need to retexture Poser models in B4 and B5, because the textures only come in partially and ususally need to be tweaked. Natural Pose is expensive for what it does. I paid about $99 for Bryce 4 itself (upgrade from B3) and $99 for just an import utility is too much - unless money is no object to you.

Looks fantastic. What format do they come in? How much memory do you need to use them? Incidentally, there's only one h in warehouse. You must be thinking of whorehouse? Or the Maori word "whare" (= a house)?

Anyone who can afford Max can pay someone to write their own plug-in. Here are some basic useful things: 1) Read .pz3 files (should be in 5.1, not 6); 2) Model curvature of the Earth (this is REALLY needed); 3) Render in background facility; batch renders; 4) Non-tree vegetation (as mentioned above); 5) Group texture copy (when groups have same constituent parts). I like the idea of a wave lab and weather lab.

I think you really do need patches. The Poser patch can be downloaded from the Curious Labs site. The essential Bryce 3 to 3.1 patch is obviously not current, but you can get it at Brycetech. Poser, when you export an obj, should give you a dialogue box with three options asking how you want to export groups and stuff. If you don't see it, something is wrong. You don't really need to smooth a Poser obj file in Bryce. Upgrading from Bryce 3 to 4 is really worth while if you want to work with Poser also - if you can still find B4. Textures should be loaded in the far LEFT window. The middle one is for masks. When you say "doesn't work" what happens? If it looks jumbled, that's because with Bryce 3 you have to rotate the texture in X by 180o.

In answer to Misha883, in the normal case I always prefer to put the texture in the ambience channel, and the magic number is 12. It gives much more life to the material. Problems with props - sometimes it can due to an error in the mesh, like a reversed normal, which can screw things up in unpredictable ways. Wet skin - careful use of specularity and a bump map to look like droplets.

Misha883's material editor screen has no ambience, which will make the hair look dull, and a value for specularity but the specularity colours are black, which means no specularity either.
