Save your models in .obj format and import those into Bryce. I use max and have found this the easiest way. The other formats have a nasty habit of getting chewed up for some reason.

I agree with the others. Textures would probably ruin this image. It looks great as is. If I was going to change anything,(And this is only to see how it looks,) I would do a render with the heat sink itself copper.

For me put Bryce and Wings3d together, and speed up the renderer. Tweek its mapping/displacement system and I would be one happy little Bryser. I have used everything from Imagine and Real3d to Max and Maya, and a damn lot in between. I am still using Bryce while most of the others have been uninstalled. For me that says something.

An image like that is almost enough to make me give up now, but in the end it inspires me to get in have a go. I gave the image a vote in the gallery, and feel I will probably be doing the same here. Fantastic work.

You have never seen RED DWARF? Smeggin Hell. It would have to be one of the best shows ever. It take the piss out of just about every Sci-fi show and movie ever made, and in most cases does it better, and funnier. Cable,vid,dvd, what ever, Do yourself a favour and see it. It will adjust your view on the world forever.

The first time I used Bryce I hated it. I uninstalled it and didn't touch it for another year. One night I was looking for a background to replace one in a photo and bryce came to mind. I reinstalled, played around for a while, and all of a sudden I understood. I have been a convert for 5 years. Over the years I have used most of the major software, but still prefer bryce for rendering.(Even if it is slow). PS. My first image was a reflective sphere over water with....... You get the picture.

I think if I was trying to build the top image I would restrict myself to 2 or 3 floors at a time. Make a number of different modules, map them, then randomly stack them.

I think this would make a good monthly challenge. Build a sci-fi/fantasy helmet.

This is being done in wings. I have access to MAX, blender, and truespace, but find I have more fun doing it in wings. Its limited tool set makes you really think about what you are trying to achieve.

At some point in the process we need to go organic. An ant has the equivilent of twenty thousand transistors in its body yet is able to function in the real world. A standard digital watch has 1000 times that many but can only tell you the time, and even then it needs input from the owner to establish a base line to work against. A new born baby is orders of magnitude smarter than every computer on this planet combined but cannot speak, see, walk or any of the things it will learn during its life time. If you create an organic computer with the ability to KNOW what a question means, it gives it the ability to supply the answer in a way anyone will INSTINCTIVLY understand. You can build networks that act like communities, and will want to involve you in its activities. In other words a computer that aims to please.Which would make a nice change.
