" Since no one really knows what the real issue is, maybe starting a boycott bandwagon might be a bit premature. ???? --Rebekah--" Never too early! :)
Thread: Bit of a - double standards - rant | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
shakes his head Oy, I'm not even going to touch this can o worms. I will say this however... has anyone ever looked at the possible AGE RANGE of the posters? I know many of us don't post our ages, but there are those who do. This site has over 200,000 members. 200,000! I would venture to say that at least a third of them are teen age boys from the ages of 13 to 18. Now, hormones play a major part in their lives. Hell IT IS THEIR LIVES. Think about that.
Thread: CL cracking down? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
so why doesn't everyone with ten bucks go and register a poser web domain from GoDaddy.com? After a few thousand websites are registered, and hosted, what is CL gonna do? Spend millions of dollars on closing each and every one down? I hardly thinkso, if that's the case, then a call should go out to boycott buying their software. A use it, but don't pay for it kind of thing, and hit them where it really hurts, the pocket book. If you think about it, instead of spending those millions on building a better product, they will have wasted them on NOTHING. And now, after the aforementioned boycott, they have no revinue. Poser gets sold once again. Hopefully to discreet :)

Possbily, but I can deal with the whacky cameras, and the limited Undo feature. Even with creaky old legacy source code if it ain't broke, don't change it, just update it is the philospy of many code monkeysinside joke* that I know*, its still fairly stable. The areas in need of DRASTIC improvment are the render engine, and the animation engine. Frankly, Poser has the weakest renderer of any software out there. I mean, I know that I shouldn't be asking for a Maya/Lightwave class renderer in a $300 program, but I would like something beefier than a glorified etche-sketch. Not only that, but I shouldn't have to spend HOURS upon HOURS in Photoshop to fix, or spruce up my image. That creaky legacy code is a decent foundation, which I admit needs some serious touching up. But at its core, its stable and fairly reliable. I've been using Poser for going on 4 years, through Poser 4.0 to Poser 5.0, and I can say that in someways Poser 5 was a major step up, with its speed in the Poser 4 department, and the texturing, and cloth areas, but a bit of a disappointment with the FireFly renderer. So they added Ray Tracing, something thats been in every 3D program since about 1998. Not much of an addition frankly. It should have been put into Poser 4, and then in Poser 5, we should have had Stencil Lighting, Normal Mapping, and Volumetric Lighting. When a full list of features comes out, I'll make my judgement then, but I will still buy it and use it, simply because I'm a fan of it. Now if only my favorite sport would gets head out of its butt, and get a season for next year, I 'd be a happy man :)
Thread: Why does Poser 5 get slower the more stuff you have? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Or if you have a more updated system (not one of those pre-built peices of crap from Best-Buy, Circuit City, or any other computer trap store), and you have Serial ATA, do what I did, put Poser, and your huge as hell Runtime folder on that SATA drive... Why? Because the SATA data pipeline is dedicated to nothing but those type of drives, no interference from the PCI bus(As is the case with old fashioned ATA), and it's pipeling is 150mb/sec. While your hard drive will not fill that entire pipeline, it still makes loading things that much faster. For instance, when I load a large project, say in excess of 80mb, it takes only about 20 seconds to load up. Rendering is another matter however, as that is mostly processor intensive, and when you're running AMD, anything below the FX series is gonna render about as fast as a lame horse. Has it's moments of fast renders but most of the time it just takes forever. Now, if I had a P4EE(Pentium 4 Extreme Edition), or an AMD Athlon FX51(the best true 64-bit Processor, ask Maximum PC, it beat out the Mac G5, hands down, and that Mac was a dual processor! That's a rant for a different time though lol), your renders will be blisteringly fast. Also what can help is a DECENT video card. Don't be taken for these POS $60 cards. If you're serious about doing 3D, even if it is just a hobby, get yourself a mid-range $200 card. You won't be disappointed. Well, I think that covers my rant!
Thread: *KINDRED FOR V3* what are your thoughts? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Awesome so far. Small question... is this Kindred from Vampire: The Masquerade? or something else. And secondly, if it is, which clan is she? I'd venture to say she'd be a Lasombra by her skin tone :)
Thread: How to paint a light sabre glow? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks guys... Now, one more dumb question: Applying the hi-lights through the image from the glow of the light sabre? Would I just paint the hi-lights on? And if so, what settings would I use to get a light, but difinate hi-light?
Thread: How to paint a light sabre glow? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Thanks Stewer, its in Poser 5, and how would I go about attaching a shader to it? I'll do some fiddling and see what I come up with, but if you could tell me how to attach a shader, that would be sweet :) Thanks!
Thread: Partition against present Poser 5 Activation Security System: | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Or just wait till a crack comes out and use it. I did that with Windows XP after I had 6 reinstallations in ONE WEEK. I finally got ticked off with dealing with MS, and downloaded a crack for it that disabled the registration part of it. It took me making a Clone CD image, running ISO Buster, and then installing the crack into the extracted files. Three burned coasters later I had a working but cracked version of Win XP. I think that this kind of security system is very invasive and disruptive. If linux could ever get out of its diapers before the year 3000 arrives, I'd make the switch. Hell, I've thought about putting Mac OS X on my machine(it IS possible). If this security system/activation system is not removed or altered, I will use Poser 5, but I won't BUY it. If I do buy it, I will search for a crack. When I buy something IT IS MINE. Not the company's anymore. I paid the cash for it, I own it. Car makers don't make you submit an activation form when you buy a car, and Grand Theft Auto is a far more lucritive business than software priacy. So until this is changed, Keep your product CL. It was a free pack of weapons from the game Max Payne. Had the Jackhammer shotgun, Desert Eagle hand gun, things like that.

Thread: Concerns about the galleries. Small debat inside, be warned. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Still both of you have damned good points. John is right in many a sense, as are you Virtual. But heres the thing. This site houses tutorial after tutorial, and long with links to the sites with more tutorials, to many to count. n00bz need to learn about these things, and that will help them become better artists. I used to be nothing more than pen&pencil artist, never coloring my images unless I did some water color(Which I still do on occaisions), and when I got my first copy of photoshop, I went bonkers on books. My poor mothers bank account about sank :) It would seem to me that the people making all of these tacky nudes are nothing more than teenagers, raging with hormones... maybe we need to put some age identification stuff on here. That way, the young ones are kept from viewing it and also, it keeps all of the nudes from being the most popular and balances out the load, so to speak. just some thoughts
Thread: Concerns about the galleries. Small debat inside, be warned. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
hehe and I all I asked for were some opinions. Just a general feel of what people thought. Though some did throw a few blows, albeit small ones, all I asked for were some opinions. I myself will only do a nude if I can make it "tasteful" other than that, forget it. I have a love for the human body in its nakedness, but I don't over do it or exploit it as some in these galleries do. To me, that is not art, that is smut. If ya want smut, I have a few choice magazines you can check out :P
