Quote - > Quote - And once again I will ask the question everyone seems to be avoiding answering, if you downloaded content from a site besides DAZ and it sets off your antiV would you pause/turn off your antiV to install it?
No, but you are talking about a trusted supplier of content of many years here, not an unknown flyby-night operation.
The first time it happened to me with a DAZ installer, I did pause, then I went looking for answers, and when it was clear to me it was a false positive from my current anti-virus at that time (this was around 2007) I ignored it as such and installed my content. I was new to DAZ 3D at that time. I know you have been around a long time, I believe longer than I have to know DAZ 3D not to be a "flea infested" operation.
The difference between you and I is that you think your anti-virus is infallible and your thought process here is flawed.
So there, I did answer the question "everyone" was avoiding. :)
I agree, they are a supplier of content. Trusted... eh... not so much. They are a business who is paranoid about protecing their copyright and will do anything they deem necessary to do so. Even if that means invading your privacy. But hey, if you don't mind an installer grabbing your personal information and reporting it to whomever without your knowledge then more power to you. Blindly trusting any company, no matter how long they've been in business, is naive. Use your common sense and always trust your gut.
Thought process is flawed? I disagree. What's the point of using antiV if you're not going to take it seriously. I'm not familiar with the program manleystanley is using, but it picks up on something the DAZ installer is doing while installing "content." Perhaps it's extracting personal information and submitting to a third party company that reports to DAZ. I believe manleystanley is taking the warning seriously and if one is not going to take it seriously, to some degree, then what's the point of using it. Might as well not use anything at all.
With regard to the question... If I downloaded content from a site besides DAZ and it was an installer that set my antiV off, I would not pause my antiV to install it. Rather I would contact the company to find out more info including an alternate source of installation, like a zip.

manleystanley is right.
I don't know about the new DAZ installers, but the older installers were reporting personal information on pre Win 7 machines. After Win 7 came out there was a mistake in the installer that revealed two web pages, showing the personal data that was being transmitted, including the IP address, while installing the product. In pre Win 7 machines there would be a quick flash on the screen, but the customer proabably wouldn't have noticed. It was more than likely a third party company that reported to DAZ the personal statistical information. Even if you didn't run the browser the info still went out. That might be why the antiV pops up for some people, such as manleystanley.

People power comparisons...Daz3D forums and Animal Research Laboratories...........have you people gone crazy!!!
Nope, nobody has gone crazy. We are simply giving examples, suggestions and opinions.
I don't know about other people, I can only speak for myself. But, I have been a member at DAZ since they opened. The only program available for the type of products DAZ primarily sold was Poser. I spent thousands of dollars in there first few years of business, became a PC member from the beginning and continued to spend a lot of money on fantastic products over the course of ten years. I supported them, kept them in business, like so many other Poser users.
They decided to make DS and offer it for free. It was going to be so much better than Poser and I thought cool! By the time they worked out the bugs and perfected it, I had been using Poser for far too long and did not want to deal with the learning curve of DS.
It's great that they have DS and I hope it continues to be successful. My gripe with DAZ is that they would not still be in business after 10 years nor would Genesis be a glimmer in their eye without the support of Poser customers. But, with Genesis and the 5th gen dolls, I am locked out. I can't use them unless I want to switch programs and I'm not willing to do that, especially with a minimum of 2 installers plus, just to get the library going. From my perspective, Poser products have dwindled down to very little and it feels like a slap in the face. But hey, like I said earlier, it's business. They could be making so much more money if they offered products for both pieces of software and if they want to limit their profits, so be it. I wish DAZ much success and hope they have enough existing and new DS users to keep them in business for a very long time, but I'm done spending money there. And this is just my opinion based on facts, not an attack.

Don't underestimate your power as a customer. Just say: "No forum No shopping"
Quote -
Quote - It's probably tied to the store but what's up with the forum, inquiring minds would like to know.
The Forum isn't a priority right now - it doesn't bring in revenue. I am sure they will get it together eventually. Just don't hold your breath.
Quote - @ OOM, I think your remark was unnecessary, DAZ is working as hard as they can, if you don't have some sympathy don't reply!! I have been where DAZ is presently and I DON'T envy them the issues they have. I also believe that ssgbryan spoke out of line, he/she has nothing to back that statment up with. I am sure DAZ has more than two people working on all the issues.
@ ldgilman I believe OOMs remark was totally necessary. His/her opinon counts just as much as anybody eleses. Besides, what could possibly be wrong with it? It's a fact and I totally agree with "NEVER underestimating your power as a customer". If enough customers come together to say to a business, "You cruelly test on animals, so I'm NOT buying your products" or "No forum No shopping." If enough customers do this, do you know how fast animal testing will stop or how freaking fast the forums will come back up??? If it has to do with making money, a business will act very quickly. That's just the nature of doing business. Period.
Um... I do believe ssgbryan is correct. He/she doesn't need any backup for that statement, this isn't a court of law. It is a fact that if it isn't a money generator it will go on the backburner. You know, business is business... Besides, businesses don't have an ounce of sympathy for people, they have sympathy for their money and that is a FACT.

A license is a contract, which falls under civil, not criminal law, which is what ex post facto legislation involves. The DAZ EULA (which has not changed recently AFAIK) spells out what derivative works of theor copyrighted products are allowed and what can be done with them, and they have given an opinion as to what is permisible as far as sharing rigging goes. Based on your comments, for your own protection I suggest you consult with an attorney in your country for advice if any aspects of DAZ' license are unclear...
Yes I'm aware that ex post facto legislation involves criminal activity. It also involves civil cases under the US Constition Article I, section 10, clause 1 (contracts).
Based on my comments you suggest I consult with an attorney? I never said aspects of the DAZ license are unclear to me. I am simply questioning them, which I have every right to do. To consult an attorney would imply that I make derivitives of Victoria, which I do not, and I have no intention of doing so for the purposes of making money. Thanks for your concern though, I am perfectly capable of protecting myself.

Oh I understand that DMCA applies to any copyrighted work. However, if Victoria is injected with a change then the author of that injection is the copyright holder. Otherwise, 90% of the stuff sold here in the marketplace and elsewhere is in violation of copyright, according to the DAZ license???
What I'd like to know is if DAZ registered Victoria with the copyright office. There is no evidence available, that I'm aware, to show how Victoria has been registered in the copyrite office, if at all. Also, the US Copyright office is not the authority for the entire world and we all know she's been sold across the globe.
Each change or modification of Victoria follows the author of the change, not DAZ. I'm not arguing that DAZ doesn't hold copyrite to Victoria, but we're talking about derivitive works done to her.
Carefully read the artical you posted. Mainly it concerns motion pictures, novels, sound recordings and drawings. I think you may have missed some key points, too much for me to go into here.
Everything that was allowed before is now prohibitted?? and that's actually something the law cannot do. Can't be legal one day then pass laws that make what you did before now illegal. That's called an ex post facto law or retroactive law, which is a law that retroactively changes the legal consequences (or status) of actions committed or relationships that existed prior to the enactment of the law. Since the US is a country that has a bill of right and a constitution, ex post facto legislation is prohibited. But, DAZ is apparently changing their license as it suits them. And as far I'm concerned they don't play nice with the other kids, so they are going to be playing alone if they keep it up.

A "DMCA takedown notice" has to do with finding a website that is using one of your "images" without permission. You may then contact the hosting ISP to report the infringment. The letter that you send is called a "DMCA Takedown notice."
What does that notice have to do with making morphs or creating a character for V4?
Another thing I don't understand is how anyone can copyrite a shape. And that's exactly what V4/M4/K4 is... they are shapes. That's like saying I'm going to copyrite air and anyone who breathes it will have to pay me... Sounds pretty freaking rediculous, donit??

Quote - One word competition..
They do not want competition for their new figure even if it's one of their own figures revised.. :(
That's sooo true! But that's the thing about business... there's going to be competition whether they like it or not. They shouldn't take it personally though, after all, "It's just business." :0)

Thread: Am I Stupid? What's All This Genesis Stuff About? O.o | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - ... If that's the case, what does the future hold for Poser, I wonder?
As long as V4 & M4 are supported, i.e. new clothes, textures, character packages, etc then there will be plenty in Poser's future. But, Poser is much more than V4 & M4. You can also use tons of props/figures/obj's and it has animation features. Plus you can make you're own props and figures with Poser. I think that DAZ made such a big deal about V4 & M4 versions 1-4 for so long that people don't realize there are many other dolls that are just as good, if not better, on the market for free or nominal prices in comparison to V4/M4 and all their add-ons.
Have you seen the weight mapped version of V4? If not, it's absolutely lovely to work with. You can get a free copy at RDNA. The only thing that's a little different is fitting clothes on her.
FYI in case you don't know... Just load the clothes then conform them to V4. It won't fit, but no worries. Mark the clothes then go to the figure tab and copy joint zones from... make sure Victoria4-WM is in the box then click ok.
Away you go with the clothes fitting the way they're supposed to :0)

Thread: Are die-hard Poser users going to switch to Daz Studio for VIvky 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Laurie said,
"While I feel for the vendors, it is not Daz's responsiblity that they keep the vendors employed. The vendors are not part of their company - a company that deserves to do what they see fit. And yes, they are splitting the market for their own purposes. It's called BUSINESS.
Laurie"
That's nice that you feel for the vendors, but who said anything about making DAZ responsible to keep them employed? That wasn't the point, as far as I can tell, and nobody said that DAZ doesn't deserve to do what they see fit.
The points being mentioned were Gate's opinions and observations. Period. What I don't understand is the reason for sarcasm. Is it possible to have a freaking dialogue without the rude utterance of sarcasm?
A BUSINESS or corporation has the rights and responsibilities of "a legal person," its owners and shareholders are not liable for its actions. In addition, a corporation's directors are legally required to do what is best for the company, regardless of the harm created. Now isn't that last bit sweet... "Regardless of the harm created." Don't preach about BUSINESS, it's actually pretty disgusting.
However, perhaps it's a little "BUSINESS" strategy to see a new product all over the net, just after she was released, which would make her more appealing. It's amazing how new V5 products show up everywhere immediately after their release. Could that be a creator's strategy or is it an internal revoltuion? Hmmm...

Thread: (Off Topic) Anyone want to help decipher HR326 Stop Online Piracy Bill | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
First of all this is a House Bill and must be voted on, if it hasn't already, and if it passes then it goes to the Senate who will then add to or delete portions of the House Bill and then the Senate has to vote on it. Then it'll go back to the House who will either vote on it or make changes and then it goes back to the Senate... when both chambers finally reach an agreement it gets voted on and if it passes then it becomes law.
Second, the US has to have jurisdiction. If the internet site is outside of the US jurisdiction then there isn't a whole lot that this law can do. But, it appears they are trying to make a law that allows the US Attorney General the ability to prosecute those sites that provide access to digital content.

Thread: Are die-hard Poser users going to switch to Daz Studio for VIvky 5? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Nope, I'm not switching to DS. I've got the first, second, third and fourth gen models, have sunk loads of money into all the bells and whistles for those dolls, plus the cost of Poser upgrades.
Genesis and V5 are no better than all of the other dolls I've got, IMO. I'm just tired of all the hype over a new doll, which translates to spending even more money. When will DAZ develop a quality model? V1 was the latest and greatest and then came all of the other dolls, which were supposed to be the best and now we've got the latest version... so in a couple of years another new doll and it will never freaking end.
I prefer the third or fourth gen dolls, their content and I prefer Poser over DS. I don't want to learn a new program or system either, so nope, I'm not switching.

Hi Kixxie, I'm glad you got the results you wanted, but it's a shame you aren't able to use the entire mermaid product. I think DS has a geometries folder, if so, just change the name of the obj and it should work.
I'm happy to help, if I can... so feel free to PM anytime. Have a wonderful day too!!
