litst, how did you get your shader like that? I played with the mixer for quite a while, and couldn't get a result like that. Could you post a screenshot of your shader? Thanks. Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: Need Help For FX | Forum: Carrara
Well, you could do this - Create your object, be it text, a cylinder, sphere, or whatever. Set Motion to "Motion Path." Advance a couple frames. Move said object to the target destination at the last frame of the animation, and and any points to your path. Make sure that the Distance Along Path attribute is set to its maximum value, so it is at the path's end point. Open up the sequencer, and click on the little diagonal line between the first frame and the triangle at the end [the keyframe]. The properties tray will now allow you to edit the tweener. Tweener's modify how Carrara interpolates the change between keyframes. Use the popup menu to change the tweener to "Oscillate." Choose a sawtooth type wave. Change the number of oscillations to however many you wish. Set the Up Phase to 100%. This means that the keyframe repeats itself the number of times you set in #Oscillations box. Up Phase means how fast it alternates between forward and back. Since we are on sawtooth, the loop always starts from the beginning, i.e. it doesnt go forwards, reverse, forwards, reverse, etc. Sawtooths go forward, wait, forward, wait. Up Phase determines how quickly it goes through the wait, or on the sine graph, the Going Up Phase. Setting it to 100% means the change is instantaneous; once it gets to the end point, it immeadaetly repeats. Experiment with other waves for different reates of change. Some trig knowledge will make this easier. To get the light to pulsate, you do roughly the same thing with a shader - At the begining, set Glow==0, at the end, Glow==100. Change the shaders tweener to Oscillate, Sine Wave. Set the #Oscilations==#Oscillations of the moving object/s. Set Up Phase to 50%. Now the objects will fly across its path, and it will flicker on and off while moving. Note - I messed around with this, but I couldn't get the flickering to sync up with the object motion...but playing around with it should get you suitable results. Let me know if this doesnt help. Thread: Reality/Time Check | Forum: Carrara
Thats pretty nice. What I want to know is, though, if you have Rhino and 3DSM, why in the world are you using Carrara? THe reason I'm using it is because AutoDesk Inc won't port ANYTHING to Mac, and LW is a little...complex. But anyways, nice job. If it was smaller, it might make an interesting Poser prop. Thread: Patch | Forum: Carrara
Heh, you can tell Elite Goliath is new, because he is optimistic about a patch..its sort of like beleiving in the Tooth Fairy...we've lost our teeth [Metacreations], but there isn't a present [the patch] under our collective metaphorical pillows. (-: The patch is sort of like the Holy Grail of software updates. But hopefully, when we find it, we won't get arrested (warez haha) (-: Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: The Most Useless Feature In Carrara... | Forum: Carrara
cutcopypaste...that's disturbing...this means that I have the patch, and eovia has the ability to hack into my hard drive... (-: And I don't think that Carrara would be locked in an insane asylum, I think it would be talking to a shrink, trying to cure his recurring nightmare of something called a 'nil pointer' (-: Nebula Supernova Studios

That's really nice, your VM skills are really great. Maybe you could post some tutorials on how you did all this, or some basic pointers on how to model organic stuff like this? Nice job. Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: Shader pack ive been working on | Forum: Carrara
Hmm, how about free? Then we could dissect what you did, and get a larger understanding of shader mechanics, all for the betterment of this forum's collective texturing sk33lzs. Please? (-: But more seriously, those are nice, and since youve done them all with procedurals, they are extremely well done. I'm sure theyd be a worthy purchase at whatever price. Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: The final render | Forum: Carrara
Nice work, Izuel. The foliage and water procedurals are particularily nice. I still think the section of rope in the center has too much slack, but it is still a great work. Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: Revised W.I.P. | Forum: Carrara
Thats certainly quite an improvement, nice job! The spline rope is a nice touch, but the one in the middle seems a little too angular and deep. Maybe a longer tangent bar will help this. Also, the wooden planks seem a little plasticy - not as in texturing (which is quite nice, by the way), but their shape. They are very round and curved and seem too toy-ish. Maybe you could put them in the VM and pull out some edge vertices to give it that driftwood look? But anyways, nice job. Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: My QTVR Tutorial | Forum: Carrara
Well, thats what this tutorial is for - I tried doing some QD3D, but it added ugly red and blue lights to the scene, and any file > 5 mb would not work. But if you import objects into this scene file, just run the Batch Queue, and you should have all of your movies, ready to put in QTVR Studio or QTVR Edit Object. Or, if the Queue doesnt work, simply render a movie from each camera, fast antialiasing, and 0 compression. Hopefully this will work better for you. Isn't QTVR great? Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: Plug-ins for Carrara | Forum: Carrara
Right, I saw that, Fabien. It's just that there isn't a bone or lipsynch plugin listed there, or on losthorizonsoftware.com either. Morph targeting is not the same as boning, but it certainly makes bonig look better. Also, without morphs, it would be challenging, if not impossible, to do a lipsynch. So it's a vitally important plugin to boning/lipsynch, but it's not the same thing, if that was what was confusing you. Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: Plug-ins for Carrara | Forum: Carrara
Well, you listed a morph target plug in, but I checked the site, and I didn't see a bone or lipsynch plugin...where did you find those on the site? Nebula Supernova Studios
Thread: Plug-ins for Carrara | Forum: Carrara
Well, AFX (www.afx.com) made an RDS bone plug-in (in addition to many other cool plugs), but it costs money. They said that they are not currently porting them to Carrara because o the situation at MetaCreations. I emailed the guys, and they said that their 3DS plugin, SceneGenie, is currently taking all their time, but they will rethink their Carrara plans once they get a break from SceneGenie. This is fairly hopeful as AFX makes quite a few very cool plugins. So good news. Nebula Supernova Studios

Actually, the DS had a matte-black type of finish, or at least it looked like it did. The textures came out nice, particularily the 'city light' one, Kixum. Could you share how you did them? Nebula Supernova Studios
