Quote - I need to clarify that the Mac will not get the 64-bit editor, only Windows gets the 64-bit editor. There are insurmountable difficulties with a 64-bit GUI on Mac. That's why Photoshop is still a 32-bit app on Mac.
Both will have a 64-bit renderer.
So, for mac users, what does it mean we won't get a 64-bit editor? I hope it doesn't mean we're stuck with the 4gig limit when loading content into poser.
Thread: Did anybody get Poser 8 at CP for $1.99? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
It was there at 3:53pm Pacific time, so I got it. Was a little confused at first when I clicked the poser8 icon in the salesgroupview list and poser8 page came up with the hybrid price showing $249.99. But then I clicked the menu list, and Mac Full and Windows Full versions were $1.99. Good luck to all who try to catch this deal in september.

I use mac, and I'd like to get poser 8. If being referred to as a mac f'er will make a programmer happy and will result in a poser 8 that's better then poser 7, I'm fine with it. Programmers rule! please don't put in some secret code that'll only effect mac users like occasionally putting balls on V4 renders :)
Thread: Want to be a modeller? Get a free copy of Maya! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Exactly. That's why I didn't get the educational version two years ago. The only limitation I know of is not being allowed to use it for commercial use. I'm also not sure if you can upgrade from it to Maya 5.?? or 6.0 at a later time. Go to alias.com and click on the education link and I guess look around. All the info should be there. There might be some more knowing people about this in the highend3d.com maya forums. I'm way too busy to look myself, but if you buy maya, the highend3d.com site is a good site to know about.

weight mapping applies to polygons, points, and their movement. So if you bend a model's elbow or knee, the polys assigned with 100% weight won't move, 75% weight will move a little, 50% will move more, 25% weight will move a lot, 0% weight will move the most (or it might be the reverse of this, but you get the idea). Having polys weighted appropriately will make for much more natural looking joint bends and other more natural looking posing overall. If I remember this right. Don't take this as gospel til you hear from a higher or more knowledgable authority!

You're right, I checked journeyed and alias sites, Maya Unlimited and Maya Complete licenses are not time limited anymore (use to be). Good deal then.

Unless this has changed recently, the educational version is time limited, either a full year or just a school year. Alias site should say somewhere.
Thread: DAZ PC Club autorenewal | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Himico, In your post, you say: My account information says You do not have a credit card associated with your membership, so your membership cannot be renewed
So that answers your question, it won't be renewed.
Interesting about the CC thing. DAZ does have my CC, and my account did say it was set to autorenew. I wonder if it was going to renew me annually or monthly. Doesn't really matter though, like I said above, I cancelled the autorenew.

castles, wands, flying broomsticks, potions, wizards, robes, pictures in frames, cats, trees that move, bathrooms, dragons, fireplaces, beds, desks, mirrors, even nerds with glasses, etc...basically all the elements that make up Harry Potter schools and props are virually all been done before. So don't use the specific names of characters or the school. Quiditch: stadium, balls, hoops, broomsticks again. Do a varition and don't call it quiditch. Create a parody alternate universe and call it wizard ball or something. Hogwarts can be Warthogs, Harry Potter can be Harriet or Mary Potter. Lot of possibilities with parodies, and parodies are legal, technically. If HP has specific symbols, you probably can't get away with using those, but anything generic, is fine.

Obviously this version isn't based on Angelina Jolie from Lara Croft Tomb Raider.
It's based on Jenna Jameson from Lara Croft Boob Raider.
Thread: DAZ V3 Head and Body Morphs - Is it just me... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yep, DAZ has good models, but their dishonesty about sales deadlines is annoying.
Any deadline they set has a 50/50 chance of actually being a deadline, or not being deadline (as in deadline extended). Extended deadlines are great for people who happened to miss the first deadline, but suck for people who scrambled to make the deadline, yet would have perferred to wait (for various reasons) if they knew they could have. This happened to me during the platinum club sale, and of course, they didn't respond to my email to them regarding it. Big surprise.
This deadline ending early is a new one to me though, but also not a surprise.
Thread: V3 and other DAZ for LW, C4D, Maya, Max, etc. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
yeah, well, I guess the poser 4 with pro pack export plugins will have to do. It was really the 70,000+ polys of vicky 3 that got me thinking about this. I did buy poser 4 with pro pack a few months ago, also bought lo res vicky 2. Have owned C4D since XL6 came out, and a little less than 2 months ago, I upgraded to XL7 and will be getting XL8 free.
3 or 4 hypernurb vicky 3s would be easier (maybe not easier, but probably faster) to work with than 3 or 4 70,000 poly poser vicky 3s, but not gonna happen unless I do it myself. Downside is all the user created stuff like hair, and especially free or inexpensive clothes that will shortly be appearing for V3, wouldn't make it over easily to a C4D specific V3 (probably).
When I first started to learn 3D, I was interested in modeling, texturing, and rendering stills. Or if I did any animation, it wasn't with characters. Lately, I'm more interested in character animation, and while poser's somewhat OK, not being able to adjust curves over time, well that's a feature I wish it had.
But I am just a hobbyist, so it's really not that big a deal. Was curious as to why DAZ only supported poser. Guess now I know.

Electra may be a useful freebie to mess with, but I'd rather pay for a Lightwave version (or C4D, Maya, etc) of V3 or similar, and hair, and clothes, and other characters/models. Assuming the price is not that much more than poser version. Plus a V3 for higher end 3D could make use of nurbs, SDS, hypernurbs, and not have to be 70,000+ polys.
I know about Zygote. None of their stuff is remotely as cool as DAZ stuff is for poser.
I know you can import obj files into 3d programs. But the DAZ models for poser go right into poser with textures already mapped the way they need to be, and you can do posing and animation immediately cause they're already boned.
Probably my question was unclear. I was thinking more along the lines of being able to purchase a version of say V3, for Lightwave for example, that loads right in, textured perfectly without extra fussing, already boned for LW, and thus instantly posable and animatable. And a way to add clothes, etc, and have it all work, easy as poser. Likewise for C4D, Maya, etc. You'd get the benefits of better lighting, rendering, modeling props and new clothes right there in your app of choice. Maybe there isn't a easy way to do this. Maybe the market is too small. Maybe to support higher end 3D apps, DAZ would want to charge too much. Maybe they're happy with Poser 4 plus ProPack plugins handling of this.
And I'm not really saying to do this for every high end app -- pick one, or two. Maybe just the one they use to create DAZ stuff in in the first place. They mention LW on their site, maybe that's what they're using.
Kind of wish DAZ would answer why they aren't doing this. I'm sure there's a reason, just curious as to what it is. Maybe DAZ Studio is why.
