Thread: New site design WIP | Forum: Bryce
Looks like a good start! If I might give some pointers:
The gallery page loads really slowly at the moment. I don't know if it's your webhost or the gallery plugin you're using, but if it can be sped up that would probably improve the experience for potential clients.
The cross-fading images on the graphics page are implemented with flash. It's better to use Javascript, so people on mobile devices can view it too. The jQuery Cycle plugin does what you've got on your site with very little configuration needed, it might be a good alternative.
Page width and layout is inconsistent across most pages. The overall experience for your site's visitors (and potential clients) is going to be better if you stick to a particular format across most pages.
If you decide to go with the dark background like on the resumé page, I would advice to add a little more padding, so the text is more free from the edges of the surrounding box.
Your fonts are all the same and all quite bold. You're probably going to be able to make more impact if you decide on a bold title/header/display font. And a more calm, less bold font for body text. A nice guide on how to decide on font combinations can be found here:

If you're feelign inspired, you can also use google webfonts for spiffy royalty-free fonts: http://www.google.com/webfonts

Depending on the setting, adding a bit of reflection to the wet parts of the texture might work well also.

Thread: Light | Forum: Bryce
You could create a sphere, set the material to 'fuzzy' and 'additive', then you can position it at the light, and it should produce a type of glow/halo effect. Another alternative would be to add the glow in photoshop.

Thread: A new start | Forum: Bryce
One feedback I'd give on the design is to try and make the text on the box the same width as the cover-graphics and a healthy margin out of the edge of the box. Giving the text the same width gives a sense of consistency to the design.

Quote - One for the Brits... How many G4S Olympic security guards does it take to change a lightbulb?
3 Soldiers and a policeman............!
Here they need a van and 4 police officers if a single bicyclist is riding without a light during a dusky time of the day.
They also need 2 vans, 2 cars and 2 motormice, (with a total of 12 police men) to extract one guy from a bus for posessing an opened can of soda.
Meanwhile, if a storm blows a thick heavy tree over, and it lays all the way across one of amsterdams busiest streets blocking the pavement, bike lanes, car lanes ánd tram rails in both directions, they send one poor schmuck on a bicycle... :P

Thread: What is 48-bit dithering | Forum: Bryce
I'm not entirely sure how bryce does this exactly, but it would make more sense from a qualitative standpoint that the actual rendering is performed at 48bit and then converted down to 24bit image using a dithering algorithm, as opposed to rendering at 24bit, then upping to 48bit, applying noise, and going back down again to 24bit.
There are several different algorithms that can be used for such dithering operations, it's not explicitly stated which one bryce uses, but it's likely that it does use some type of noise-based algorithm, possibily something gaussian.
For the people who remember old 256color GIF photo's or even 16 color images, the dithering is what you used to see as this sort of grain of different colors making color gradients seem more smooth. These patterns could be regular or irregular, depending on the applied dithering algorithm.
The higher the amount of bits for the output image, the more subtle a dithering effect becomes because the difference between adjecent colors is less intense.
For 24bit images, banding is only noticable on very subtle gradients over longer distances. As a result dithering usually only makes a visual difference in images containing such subtle gradients.
If the actual rendering is done at 48bit when 48bit dithering is turned on, it's also possible that it might have some subtle positive influence on the quality of anti-aliasing in particularly difficult anti-aliasing situations.

Thread: OT: New trends in English usage | Forum: Bryce
As far as text messages go. I'm starting to get the idea that the amount of mutilated words used by teens these days has a strong correlation with promiscuity and teen pregnancy.
That is, out of the various people I've talked to over the past few years, the ones that use excessive abbreviation of words such as in kiwi's example, more then half of them became pregnant by accident.
In contrast, out of the people I've talked to who type mostly normal, that percentage is so low, that I'd probably have to guesstimate it at 1% or less...
Scary thought isn't it??
