Quote - Underground - cool idea and congrats!
"...it saddens me to see only 6 votes considering how busy the Vue forum and gallery is"
True.
Maybe most people are focused on what they want to get from the forums from their visit - goal driven - an answer to a problem, or to check if anyone else if having the same issues, or want to help give answers to questions asked? Just spiff-balling out loud, here - just guessing.
I mostly lurk - partly because I'm still using V6I (2 generations behind now, so most of the queries don't apply to me as far as "builds"), and also because I don't often have much time - like this past month for the contest. I didn't even come up with an image in my head, much less try it out.
Gonna mull over an image for Underground, though - just finished my last edit so a lot of time just opened up for me in evenings and weekends.

Actually I also have V6 and it's a personal limited edition to boot! I wanted to enter the contest but I'm still learning Vue and I couldn't figure out how to make an "underground" picture. Its not that I didn't think it was a good contest theme because I did! My thoughts were along the lines of a vampire being trapped by the sun's rays but first I gotta make the vampire and that was going to take some time - LOL!
Plus being the 3D addict that I am I had entered a few of Renderosity's other contests as well.
I still think the contests are a good idea just have to get more people interested in it.

then click on "entry page" once there.
Thank you sooo much for answering! I was able to find it because of you - thank you again!

This sounded like a GREAT idea for a contest - too bad I just saw about it now but it does give me some good ideas for some renders that I can do in Bryce!
I look forward to the next contest!
Thread: I have a couple of questions.... | Forum: DAZ|Studio
As you can see the doghouse now has a surface added to it as well as the grass too!
Following everyone's advice I used UV Mapper to map the doghouse object and then applied the surface texture that I wanted (wood).
In the past I just assumed that since I was able to add textures using both Bryce and Vue that I could do that using DazStudio as well but found out that I was wrong!
I'm still working on that other part about adding the doghouse.obj as a cr2 file.
Thread: I have a couple of questions.... | Forum: DAZ|Studio
Quote - You don't need to create a .cr2 -- just save the doghouse as a DAZ scene in a D|S-format content folder (NOT under Runtime).
Thank you very much for this!
I copied and pasted both replies so that I'll have it in front of me when I try it out!
Thanks again!
BTW - I am downloading a program called UV Mapper - hopefully that will help too!

Quote - Hi Rose.
To add textures to a model you have to define UV Map. A UV Map is a 2D map of the 3D surface so that then you can paint a 2D image and Studio/Poser/Carrara/Blener etc. will be able to know on what part of the surface the pixels from the texture go. Do some search on the web and get some books about 3D modeling an texturing. Wings or Blender will be able to do the UV Mapping and texturing. To add content to Studio you need to create a CR2 file. There are scripts for doing that. Basically yuou import your UV-Mapped .OBJ file inside Studio, add the textures via the Surface tab and the export the object as a CR2 file. Add all the files to a Runtime directory structure, include that Runtime in the list of directories scanned by Studio and you're all set.
Thank you for responding - Wow, what an answer! Now I do have Wings3d (and Blender too by the way but haven't got the "gist" of Blender yet - LOL!) So I will have to try it.
Thanks!

Quote - I have also used it in a Vue picture.
I think it is most efficient on ruins and other old architecture.
Thanks for including the picture.
It helps a lot to see what others have been able to achieve with the program.

I must be missing something because when I click to view the entries individually, I can't find where I can vote for them - unless I miss the voting deadline date?

Well I was just going through the contests index and saw this contest! This is the first time that I have been here.
I have done some writing in my time and even have a few things copyrighted. I have written poems, short stories and songs.
I'm glad the "image" thing was cleared up and seeing the topic of the contest reminds me of an incident that I can use as an entry - I just have to think of an image to create to go with it.

I just blogged about this great little program on my own blog!I also downloaded a tutorial to help me but so far my ivy is not coming out looking like the ones in the tutorial. I'm trying to make mine look more detailed like the ones I'm seeing on both the tutorial and the website where the program is located.
I'm working on it - I know it has something to do with the transparency settings and so far I have been using Bryce but am next going to try it in Vue.

Quote - At some point, i vow to strive to pull myself away from outdoors... and when im not there, im vueing...
anyways, and take a pic.
think i need to clean.
oh and i envy you right now, Gill. a room to yourself. oooooooooo. i am currently in a 7 and a half foot wide by 32 foot long mobile "home". The only door leads to outside and the outhouse. you'd hate my house. neatniks always do. =D things tend to be clean - but not tidy or neat. its really hard to here
i gave up a lot to live my dream in alaska, but even though i miss it, i wouldnt trade it for anything...
and i agree, agiel - once you go dual....
wow.
i have managed to drag vue (and poser) onto my second screen, as well as componants of them (animation pallet in vue, various popout windows in both), AND make vue stretch across both (i quickly had to stop that - it made me nausiated) - now, the programs stick to screen 1 - and chat, email, etc on second screen.
how did i ever live without this? wow.

Guess I should say that I'm living in a standard sized house - 3 bedrooms - one for the computer which is part computer room and part cat's room! -LOL!
My mother passed away in 2006 and left me the house and it is just so full of memories that I haven't changed a thing yet!

Quote - ...or where? Is it a chaotic corner or are you lucky enough to have your own space
Here's my place of creation that I share with some of my dragons. The other side of the room doubles as my dressing room
I love that cute wooden desk - especially those small drawers!
I think that this is just the most "cutest" topic and I love seeing everyone else's computer spaces!
I know I have a picture of my own computer space already on my computer (was sending it to my brother so that we could compare our "clutter") but wouldn't you know I can't find it! If I can't find it soon then I'll just have to take another picture and post it here!
