::nods:: I'll try and take a closer look at what I did ...like I said I only just got it working and am a little sketchy on what I did - I hope it wasn't a special case solution... TomD

stu-art, pay very close attention here. I'm sure you and your friends are very nice people, wonderful in fact. But that's not going to save you. Do you understand me? Its very simple really, and you should think of this the next time you find yourself slacking off, drifting away, or finding some other excuse to not finish your work. Simply put, if you do not finish these projects by the next time we talk The Renderosity Hardcore Hooligans are going to come by and practice various anatomical correspondances between you, your friends, and your respective computers... Are we reaching an understanding here? Good. TomD

Yes, you can. You put the texture into the first channel (A) and create a procedural texture that's just color and put it in channel (B). Then select AB mode and it will blend the two. Review how AB and ABC blending works in the Bryce manual or in RealWorld Bryce to get a better sense of it. I only just figured out how to do it myself and so I'm a little sketchy... TomD

Maybe I'm a glutton for punishement, but I don't find importing Poser figures into Bryce difficult at all. Yea, its not automatic, but what is? :-) One thing I do, though, is that once its imported and as I'm about to tweak the texture and material settings I group all the body sections that will share the same material settings into one Color Family so I can just select the whole lot of them and adjust them globally at any point. Looking forward to your images...I'm just about ready to call Corel and find out who's doing their optics and why they've never read a photography book... (Field of View behaves like Focal Length, etc. etc. rant rant whine) ;-) TomD

I just went and played around some - a radial light won't stream the way you want - it just doesn't do it. You need to use a spot light to get a streaming effect. The way I was suggesting to fake it would be done like this - imagine there's a cube inside your sphere. The face of each cube is really the "mouth" of a volumetric spotlight...I've never done it, but I think the edges of the spotlights would have to overlap so that there wouldn't be an edge ... All that said, I just tried to implement my suggestion and the render choked my PII250/512meg machine...so, take what I'm saying with the appropriate grain of salt. Bottom line, is I guess, you may have to fake it with spotlights in some configuration to simulate the radial light inside the sphere. TomD

::nods:: to kaom Its just perplexing to me because I am used to thinking of depth of field as a zone of focus that you can control (somewhat)... I think the distance setting is the center of the focus point in Bryce Units...and the focal area is the percentage of that distance that's in focus centered on that area?? I don't know... TomD

I assume you are using a volumetric light set to infinite? Also, I'm not sure that a spherical point light will work they way you are wanting....you may need to fake it with multiple shallow spotlights set up like a cube (with overlapping edges)... TomD

Make sure the drive that PPP is on is defragmented. If it has to go hopping through fragmented library files it could increase its time significantly. As for the original question, MDibble are your running Win98 or Win98 SE? TomD

Can anyone give me a hint on what the Depth of Field settings in Bryce actually do?? I'm very familiar with working depth of field through my photography/cinematography backgound so the variables in Bryce 5 just confoooose me... Any ideas? TomD
