**[ http://www.martiantoolz.com/martiantoolz/products.php?product=rmshaders](http://www.martiantoolz.com/martiantoolz/products.php?product=rmshaders)**Here's another new RenderMan shader I've converted to DS using DSGEN called "Tooled Steel"... VERY NICE!

Toon shader with non-analitic antialiasing (controlled by delta). Difusion is modulated with
clamping, the inflection points are lim2, lim3 and lim4. This shader is very cheap,
reason why no border detection is allowed. Now with specular.

...I'll add my 2 cents to say that I think the BUG TRACKER is the BEST WAY to get the developers to FIX stuff!... You can either create a Bug Report or a New Feature Request (see link) and this creates a Case Number you can track, UPDATE, etc...ÂYou can create cases for Carrara 6, Daz Studio and other software and even cross-link cases if it is a MULTIPLE software issue (C6/DS)... By having it "On The Record" you have a much better chance of getting them to fix an issue- ...ESPECIALLY if you can tell them EXACTLY what the problem is and how they could fix it...

Thread: ...FUTURE NPR (Non-PhotoReal) Art Rendering EFX for DS? | Forum: DAZ|Studio
...as a long time Poser Sketch Desiger user- I would say that these Freestyle EFX are in a number of ways better and different. But what they LACK is what Sketch Designer does pretty well-Â ... Cross Hatching and "Scratchboard" type drawing efx... and the Freestyle Dev Group has admitted that adding Cross-Hatching, etc. is something that would like to see in a FUTURE version--They know HOW to do it- BUT- it was beyond what they were presenting in this current version....
Freestyle actually has a CLOSER relationship to what Carrara's NPR features do- Carrara's NPR features are really EXCELLENT... but what they lack is what the Freestyle team has come up with- Bezier Curve (Japanese Brushes) and most importantly, a LAYERING system -- with Style sheets that are modifiable...their are a number of MORE Python Efx on their website that do not come with the initial Freestyle download...
...and Daz Studio...I'm working to put the Freestyle Dev people together with the Daz Studio dev people..it is a VERY GOOD fit as Freestyle bases their shader concepts around Renderman shaders... also- with the Eovia people on board at Daz- they already HAVE a LOT of the basic knowledge and expertise from Carrara's NPR to both UPGRADE Carrara's NPR and add them to Daz Studio as well... And the Freestyle dev people are all French- where there (France)Â is much greater interest and research in computer FINE ART drawing EFX... so...I think it is a near perfect fit!....
...On the other hand- the e-frontier dev people have done NOTHING with Sketch Designer since it was first introduced back in P4 (or maybe P3- can't remember) back when the Fractal Design wizards were doing cool stuff borrowed from Painter brushes... There is so much MORE that could be done with Sketch Designer in Poser...with layers, python, etc... unfortunately Sketch Designer cannot be accessed by Python in Poser- because they never bothered to think about it as an artists tool since P4...

...Yes, it's NOT a "Slick" commercial program- more like a "working demo" and the developers are ACADEMICS who made FreeStyle just to illustrate their NPR workflow concepts...I would recommend reading their Research Paper to better understand their NPR process- and also the Python PDF for anyone interested in programming their own NPR effects... but it is pretty easy to "HACK" their Style Sheets to modify them as you experiment with them-- which they ENCOURAGE people to do...
They are ALSO working to get FreeStyle working with Blender- so I would expect that ANYONE who has an interest in developing FreeStyle for a specific program- they would probably try to help them do it. Certainly it would be IDEAL for Daz Studio- being that it is Renderman based and a free program as well... Maybe someone could convert the Python scripts using the Daz Studio SDK-- seems like Daz Studio scripts could handle this...
"The freestyler's job is to write style modules. Each style module is a piece of style and it has to be written using the Python language. This document contains information about the operators and tools provided by Freestyle. Python documentation material can be found here: www.python.org. (the tutorial is a good start.)
The operators you are about to use simulate the drawing process: it is essential to have a clear idea of the data structures that are manipulated as well as of the pipelined organization of these operators. We therefore recommend to read the related research paper before starting. "

...Yes-- this is a pretty brilliant NPR program, I think... Carrara has some really great NPR effects- similiar in many ways to these-- but Eovia has NOT really updated or taken them FURTHER along--they have a number of limitations that FreeStyle has greatly improved upon... The DAZ Carrara Dev Team SHOULD look at FreeStyle and see what they have done so that Carrara could  take NPR effects in to another level...
FreeStyle uses a layering system- which is one of the main VERY INTERESTING features of FreeStyle- no other NPR program has offered this before...
One other INTERESTING thing too is that Freestyle will output EPS files- so they can be used in programs like Corel Draw and Adobe Photoshop...Â
They have also further developed the concepts of NPR "Style Sheets" and "Style Modules"- also worth noting...Â
--For anyone having OpenGL Crashes:
... press "h" on the keyboard and it will bring up LOTS of options!-- I found some of my models were crashing the program- probably due to some kind of OpenGL overload- so the "trick" I discovered was to use the camera to Zoom and Position my model- then make it INVISIBLE... Press render and Voila!...heh!
It's NOT a hugely ROBUST program- as it is primarily meant to be a "proof of concept"- and they admit that Python is not the MOST EFFICIENT way to do this... but it offered the ability to allow users to easily program their own NPR effects... so ultimately-- if Freestyle was released with C++ coded modules and sliders it would be a pretty POWERFUL NPR tool...
Hopefully DAZ , or someone, will develope it FURTHER...!

...and why OBJ?-- it's a HUGE file compared to the much more efficient 3DS format...after all- the purpose is NPR- and 3DS is perfect for it...
