But since a lot of people seem to shy away from anything but the Pose Room... Well telling them you have to go into another room to use a hairpiece.. isn't likely. It's hard enough to get people to use dynamic clothes, although this has taken off lately. Perhaps Dynamic hair is the Next Fad? It certainly renders a LOT better in Poser 8 /PP2010 - I guess a lot of people were put off by the original plastic look it had in Poser 5 and never bothered to check it again.
Whoa....there are other rooms besides the pose one? NO...get out!
Honestly I've been meaning to crack down and play with dynamic hair, my first attempts made chia pets look stylish..no really . My main problem is getting the base hairs so they look somewhat normal and not all like bride of Frankenstein.
I've not used any of the existing hairs since I really want to learn to do it myself, which may be part of the problem, but also most of the fun!

Getting an extra large popcorn with extra (real) butter and a large Dr. Pepper
Oh and new snapshots please when time allows....I made a right mess of it when I tried to manually merge some stuff....(teach me to stick to the hardware) or you could just loan me the big brains for a day or so, I'll give em back promise!

Quote - Since I'll be working on the light exporter today, timing here is perfect.
We could go two ways. Or both.
1) Name the lights like this: GroupName:LightName. For example:
Foyer:Spot1, Foyer:Spot2, Foyer:Spot3
Hall:Bulb
Living Room:Lamp1, LivingRoom:Lamp2
This would give you three groups to play with.
- I make lists of lights in the export configuration file and provide a drag-and-drop GUI to create light groups regardless of name.
1+2) Groups are automatically created from the naming convention, but then can be joined/split through the export config tool.
Be aware that option 2 is a lot more work. It's more parameters to parse and more stuff in the GUI. Also, figuring out how to save that grouping info in the scene is tough.
Options...wow all I have been doing is going into the test.lxs and just naming the group after the light...

start light "Light 1"
AttributeBegin
LightGroup "Light 1"
LightSource "spot"
"color L" [0.997 0.983 0.996 ]
"float gain" [921.600]
"point from" [-1.28401041 1.34252071 1.48603559 ]
"point to" [1.00000000 1.00000000 30.00000000 ]
"float coneangle" [70.000]
"float conedeltaangle" [70.000]
AttributeEnd
Which works fine for me (some may want a little more control over naming) so whatever is easiest to code for you in a convention you like is what I'll take
As for materials, the exporter (Baggins) posted is the one I used most recently and it choked on a scene (I expected it to, it was really big) but a one figure + backdrop came out just fine including the materials (backdrop was blown out, I'll play with it again to see if it was material or lighting).

Ok, first off let me say wow....just wow, I'm amazed at how this is coming together. I've been playing with the builds as they come out and having lots of fun, so thank you guys very much for this.
This maybe too early in the game (and I can always code it in by hand if needed) but have any of you thought of adding the lights as groups yet? I experimented yesterday with adding each of my two lights as groups and added the sun group as well, and while I couldn't move the lights I could play with the intensity and even shut them off if I wanted all while rendering.
Just a thought/suggestion for future notice and no big deal since I can add it by hand, and thanks again for giving us another tool to have fun with!
Thread: Do you think...... | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
IMHO no, there has always been ways to get from either Poser or DS to other render packages, this plugin is just one of the first most direct ways. I don't expect a mass exodus (what a picture that makes) to DS just because that is becoming (Please pardon this pun) a reality.
Now I don't know if you've seen what ODF, BagginsBill and ADP (hope I got that right) have been doing on the Poser side to go from Poser to Lux, but it's pretty cool and I've been trying it out.
Either way, it's exciting times for us 'lowly hobbyists'

Quote - just a quick comment to say that i don't care how long Lux takes to render now, i'd still be interested. for me, it's not about how it can do the same thing as Poser, it's about how it can do what Poser can't. also, it's only in version 0.7, but seems to have pretty active development.
and if this lays the ground work for exporters to other renderers, i'll be even happier.
Not to mention that they are going to be adding support for GPU assisted rendering as well fairly soon IIRC.
Thread: Using multiple computers to render with PP2010 | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Count me in the disappointed ranks as well, to me if you have a network queue it shouldn't matter if you're doing a single or multi frame render. Many other packages do this quite well, and some for less than Poser.
Oh well

Congratulations, and it's a date I'm sure to remember since it's the day after my DOB. If you wanted to move it a day up I'd gladly share the day

Quote - Oh, I dunno. You can read my sig line as a built in, all purpose smiley, anyhow.
I really don't think my response was scary, though.
Maybe if I'd said something like:
"Welcome to Poser, kid. You ain't gonna learn nuthin', 'cept how to cry."
Now, that would be kinda worrying.
Heh.
Except you would have to say that in Vincent Price's voice to be really scary
Thread: The Mysterious Ones | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'll chime in as one of the 'mysterious ones' (and yeah that sounds much better than lurker :) ). I've bought stuff and read the forums on pretty much a daily basis, and learned many things.
For me I don't usually 'chime in' unless I think I can offer something to the conversation, and in most cases here what I might have posted is usually already there, so I don't. As for why I don't put any renders up, well pick any number of reasons :) I mainly do 3D as a hobby, a way to let the voices in my head out sometimes (although I would love to see a duck riding a horse through a stream of pudding).
If I ever do get around to putting anything up, it will be because of the people here who have taught me much about our 'computer barbie dolls' as my daughter calls them :) So until that time I'll just have to thank the many people here now, thanks :)
