Another important point to note regarding origin is its use when using the mirror modifier, since the mirror is opposite the object origin on any axis.
For example, in Object mode if you create a brand new cube that is placed at the default center origin on the grid.. and then you try to use the mirror modifier.. nothing will appear to happen even if you have all three of the axis selected. This is because the origin of the cube defaults to the center of the geometry and therefore the mirrored cube is directly on top of itself, regardless of its actual location. Now move that cube to the left or right a bit... center the 3d cursor (if it has moved... with "Shift+C") and then press "CTRL+ALT+SHIT+C" and select "Origin to 3D Cursor." By moving the origin of the cube, you have just informed Blender from where to mirror from.
If you are ever having an issue with the mirror modifier, it is important to keep this in mind.

Entry #1 in the animation contest (the only entry so far) doesn't play any video. The sound works, but there is absolutely no video. I've tried on three different computers with three different operating systems. I don't even get an error message or anything. Also, there is no description for this entry either as required by the contest rules.
Thread: what is verge3d | Forum: Blender
I just downloaded it this afternoon (after reading about it in this thread.)... it's really cool! I haven't tried the puzzles yet. The 3D overview video from Remington Graphics was a very useful introduction to the program. (Although it didn't play on your website for some reason, so I had to search for it on YouTube.)
I'm just not exactly sure what I would use it for right now though to justify the purchase. (I've only been modeling for about a year now... and my next priority is to get Substance Painter.) Perhaps an idea will come to mind in the future that would give me a practical return on my investment. I will definitely be following it as it evolves though, because I do find it incredibly interesting.

She's standing on a "running board", I hope that counts! I think I got the Old School Pin Up part right though!
Thread: A nice Resource for .3DS Models | Forum: Community Center
Is there any licensing or usage information regarding these models? I can't find anything on that site regarding it. There is a text file in the .zip archive of the models, but it only states "There are always new 3d models at www.archibase.net!"
The only usage information I can then find on archibase.net is when you download somethings it states: "3. Archive3D.net is not responsible for the further use of this 3D model and does not consider the usage claims due to lack of tools and authority to control, confirm or guarantee the accuracy of personal data and law information."
At some point, I get to another website, that has the same models, that simply states "All Images and Objects are the property of their Respective Owners".
None of this makes me even remotely comfortable that I have any right to use these objects for commercial OR EVEN personal use.
If you've found any solid information regarding legal usage, please let me know.

Thread: location path of brush folder | Forum: Blender
I'm not sure if there is a sculpt brush folder exactly. If you want to add brushes to your current or new blend they can be appended just like the materials for the skin blend you also just asked about.
Might I also suggest this add-on:
https://www.blendernation.com/2015/02/17/free-blender-brushes/
It adds 14 brushes, and a tab with a more streamlined interface for sculpting. It also then does add a folder in the addons folder for "sculpt_brushes". This might help you. (See image below.)
I'm not sure what version of Blender you are using, but this add-on does work correctly for me in 2.79. Looking at the comments on that page, some people with other versions of Blender have apparently had issues with the add-on. If it doesn't work for you, the comments might provide some help.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Thread: a shade file from swap | Forum: Blender
To get the material from the file you need to either open the file you intend to use the material in, or just create a new file with a basic cube primitive.
Please see the attached images for the complete instructions.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks! I'm not much into women's fashion really... especially shoes. So that was the idea I came up with! I'm very curious to see what the next theme is tomorrow!

Thread: reset coordinate zero | Forum: Blender
The first thing you'll want to do is hit "Shift C" which will place the 3D cursor directly in the center of the grid. (Zero position)
Then, as Lobo3433 mentioned, "Shift S" will allow you, with a pop up menu, to Snap the selection (your selected object) to the cursor.
You may need to do a third step though, which is to set, or reset, the origin of your object. If the origin of your object is somehow incorrect, or not exactly where you want it to be, then "Shift S" won't place the object exactly center where you might expect it. For example, with a human figure, you will most likely want the origin point to be at the feet. If the origin were set to the center of the model (its waist area for example) then that is where the "shift S" will snap your model to, resulting in its legs going through the grid floor. Therefore, you may need to use the "shift-alt-center C" key combination to set the correct origin for your model/object. (If the first two things worked though, then the origin of your selected object is probably OK.) Let me know if you have more questions regarding this step, because it can be confusing. It was for me in the beginning at least.
Also, make sure your export and import settings, specifically scale and axis, are correct for the program you plan on exporting to.

Thread: Looking to make a comic and seeking advice | Forum: Community Center
I suggest giving Daz Studio a try since it is free. They also provide enough free models/assets to get a good feel for the program. Do a search on the Daz3d website for "toon shaders" and it will give you the results for a few products that can produce 2D style renders. I have the Sketchy toon shader product, and it works good for me. The OSO toon shader also looks interesting, although I have yet to try it. ( Toon/comic renders, especially 2D style, aren't really my thing.)
I can't really help you much regarding Poser. The last time I used it was over 15 years ago, and only for an hour or two.
Thread: bump and bump map node should be where | Forum: Blender
I'm relatively new to Blender myself. But here is how I set it up using Cycles and the Principled BSDF shader. The bump image isn't linked directly to the Principled shader, so you should be able to use it with other shaders. Basically I have the bump image texture, with it set to Non-Color Data, going into the Math Node, set to "Multiply" to adjust the amount, and then into the Displacement link of the Material Output Node.
(Here is more information regarding the Principle BSDF shader. I like it because it is a bit similar to using the Iray Uber shader in Daz Studio. https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/render/cycles/nodes/types/shaders/principled.html )
