Thread: New to bryce 6-help request | Forum: Bryce
well dinamo, after pointing the light try adjusting the ""softness" of the cone by going into the light editor. Just select your light and click on the small E. This works different from a normal radial light by giving a nice soft edge.
If you dont want the objects surrounding the scene affected by this then try choosing "ranged" and a setting of 15. Its then easier to just move the light closer to your object and control the amount of light its receiving.
As for color you could add another light close by to the face and change the color to red/pink too give you a more relaxed tone.

alex,
Thread: Few general thoughts on Bryce 6, the galleries, and so on.. | Forum: Bryce
I hear you Drac, comments here (or anywere) rarely have criticism.
Then again im (hands up!) one of them that would quite happily put a "wow" on someones image not just because but for the reason that an image blew me brain away.Â
Sometimes an image doesnt need a whole memo written, just a simple "Fantastic!"
There's also the question of time, i cant view or comment every image i would like to so i just take from my favourites or kind people who"took the time"! to stop.
It more difficult when you have a more permanent gallery and friends (remember im a reporter at 3DC) someplace else. I would love to comment and view every other gallery and website with 3d art but is not possible. It does take time to get to know an artist/person, i noticed with time a fellow member will get to know you better which in turn will show in the comments.
I dont spend as much time in the 'rosity forums here to get to know people better so i dont comment here as much.
As for ratings i dont do them anymore, this should just be for competitions/judging not everyday uploads.
Then again you have different artist who might just love to do a similar "style" of work everytime. It might look the same to some people but that is that person's right. It would be sily adding the same "wicked abstract" comment every day but i still respect the effort. Some people have the skill to render a similar ABS every single day while others just do a scene every month 'cause thats what they like doing.
It still nice to be able to say to that person "well done, keep it up (another awesome abstract how the **** does he/she do it).
Comments in any form are what keep artist (oh yes we are) going forward. People should use the forums more often to talk about an image and "discuss" all the good and bad points about it.
Alex,
Thread: multi-core cpu's | Forum: Bryce
BT, my "current" oldie cpu cost me about £700 to upgrade last year.
Seems to me that dell is a bit over the top!, if you got the money go right ahead! but your better just getting a cheaper AMD or intel DUO core.
The next Quads will be great but jsut think about the electricty bill. If you have it running 24/7 you wont be smiling any more.
"PROCESSOR   Intel® Core® 2 Duo® E6600 Processor (2.4GHz, 1066MHz, 4MB)  Â
MEMORY   2048MB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz [2x1024] Memory  Â
HARD DRIVE   500GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurstâ„¢ cache Â
OPTICAL DRIVE(S)   16x DVD+/-RW & 16x DVD Drives   Â
GRAPHICS CARDÂ Â Â 256MB nVidiaâ„¢ GeForceâ„¢ 7900GS graphics card"
Something like the above would be more than enough, about £1200 from dell. Add a couple of cheap external drives and your off.
As for the quad it be a different socket for them (dont ask!) so everything will be more expensive.

Here is a link to the same image, different HDR photo. This time 14 minutes to render at 1000x667.Thread: HDR's Test Renders | Forum: Bryce
ooops. Actualy the quality of the HDR here is 50. It is the shadows that affect it so much.
I rendered it at 16 RPP and its preety smooth.

another quirk i been noticing is memory usage.
On small scenes theres a slight increase of 4-10Mb more being used by B6 BUT i loaded some big 150-200Mb scenes and this memory increase went to 150-200 Mb more.
This is in comparison with B5.5. I opened the same scene on both versions and the difference is huge. (this scene in B5.5 was showing ast 400Mb used by the taskbar but the same scene in B6 was using 500-550Mb)
Not a big deal but something to look out for.
My pc,
x2 4400, geil 2Gb, WD 75Gb, win xp home.

Now about this HDRI.....
14 hours render time left for a sphere-over-water scene.
Sweeet!
Really guys, you will need to turn down some of the quality of the "effect".
We're still looking at 10hrs for a normal render.......
one step forward, 2 steps back!
