Quote - > Quote - Does Reality work with DAZ Studio 4.6? According to the announcement, DS 4.5 plugins should work, but I was wondering if anyone has verfied that? Thanks!
Yes, it does.
It's working for me, except that when I include dynamic cloth and I hit "go" to render the frame in Reality, as it exports to Lux it crashes DS4.6 ! Mac OS 10.8.3, 16 Gb ram. Could others try and see if they have troubles with dynamic cloth?

I hear you! I keep wanting to stick with DS4.5, but DS3 is so quick and painless (except when it crashes!) Anyway, thanks again. I certainly understand.

bad news.. I found an old installer of DS3 and create a scene and saved it. The old .daz and .dsa formats do not make any sense to me. Since I manually edited large portions of the .duf files to make them do what I wanted with my RLS I am pretty sure I won't be able to do that with the old file formats.
Also I am not exactly 'jumping with joy' when I think of re-building the same set in an older format. I would take weeks, if not, months.
I want to say I respect your wish to stay with DS3, it's clearly something 'strong', since I heard it from others too. So what I write here below is in NO way an attack on your choice, it only tells you how I work. :)
I myself always stop using the old software as soon as I read in comments / posts that the new software is (somewhat) stable.
In life there is no going back, only going forward imho. Standing still and not willing to change IS going back, since the others are going forward. At some point in time you will find yourself too far back to catch up.
'New' isn't always 'better', I know that too. 'New' can be nice when new features are presented. But 'new' also applies to learning. Learning how to handle the new software can be a pain in the butt.
Things you could do with your eyes closed in the old software now takes re-learning, searching for the right buttons, searching to get your workspace organized so you can swiftly work in it. Searching for a new workflow sometimes too.
We are people. We are what we are. We tend to want to keep things 'as they are', we don't want to change. But you know what? Even then we change, if we want or not.
Who can say that in his/her life nothing has changed in the past 10 years? I think nobody can. With software it goes much, much faster. So don't fight it. Embrace it.
Sorry for going way OT :)

I'm trying to "Reality-ize" the fabulous Vanessa texture for V4 from Maelwenn. Here's her promo render:
http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1560699&user_id=346681&member&np
I'm getting decent results in Reality/Lux, but am overwhelmed by the maps. Not only are there hi-res textures and spec maps, there are bump maps and displacement maps, and some displacement maps labelled "DS". Finally, there are 2nd skins, and bump and displacement maps for these! When I try to use them all, I get lousy results, so I've reverted to not using the spec or displacement maps. Here's an example. Has anyone figured all this out and how to get the Reality settings optimized? Thanks.

Quote - On mine it was under the Window tab on Daz
On mine, it used to be under Edit or whatever and now it's under Window -> Workspace !

Quote - As to the second question: It are the camera and the spotlight you will have to parent to the meshlight. If you do it the other way around (parent the meshlight to the camera or spotlight) Reality will not see the meshlight anymore.
To position your meshlight: Choose the parented camera or parented spotlight in the viewport, then go to your scene-tab, select the meshlight, go to the parameters tab and position the meshlight with the sliders.
You will see the cam or spot 'go with the meshlight' in your viewport, so you will be able to place it exactly right.
Hope this helps :)
This helps a lot! It took me a minute to understand the mesh/cam parenting thing, but I agree this arrangement is better than remembering to unparent it every time. Thanks!

Quote - Guys, I really have a serious 'Merge' problem and I hope anyone here can help me.
Somehow the Reality_Scene_data gets lost when I merge a .DUF scene into another existing .DUF scene.
Now I know I have seen Reality_Scene_data (1), Reality_Scene_data (2), ect in scenes before (back in the days when all worked well)
Example:
I load the 'SpotCam' scene I saved to disk. (top image) As you can see there is Reality_scene_data present in this scene.
Now I merge that same scene again. (bottom image) Now I would expect there would be another Reality_scene_data hidden object that should be named 'Reality_scene_data (2)' or something like that, but it isn't there!
Would any of you be so kind to try to reproduce it? I'd hate to bother Paolo with this if it is just 'me' who has this problem, cuz the he's busy enough as it is without having to spend time on silly questions from me.
Thanks in advance :)
I know this isn't related to what you're asking, but your screen capture has two aspects I'd like to understand (thanks!):
how do you get the Reality icon in the menu bar (or whatever that bar is called!) ?
Is what's shown in the preview window both a spot light and a mesh light all parented with a camera? Seems very useful...

Quote - I agree Im good with 2 for now
I second that. Especially since I'm now enjoying DS4.5 and Reality's working great with it.

Noise Aware Lux
Which is here. Only for the brave :)
Tried it on the Mac. What fun!! Basically, you go into View and turn on Show Sampling Map, then go to the new User Driven Sample tab, add a pen and draw where you want, hit Apply, then turn off the Show Samping Map, and wait a bit. Voila!

Are you sure that's not Alan Alda? ;)
Alan Alda strikes again! I hope this never line never dies as it always makes me smile!

If you use the right camera focal length, things should be in scale and not blurry. However, some IBL maps seem to work better than others. Try a few combinations and see. I think I usually get good results with neutral to wideish angle "lenses", starting at 50mm.
Quote - Another question regarding ibl maps. I dont quite understand to what purpouse they serve? Quite often they are out of scale and blurry are they suppose to create a poor man's DOF effet?

I managed to do this in Daz Studio. It worked after I remembered to zero
the figure x,y translations which were not 0,0 by default. By the way, there
is a for sale AJ morph and texture set in the MP now. The tex look great
but I don't think the morph is any better than this terrific free one... Just MHO.

Fact: the particle collider near Chicago (Fermilab) has been running an antimatter beam for the last 10 years. Millions of times a second it crashes into a matter beam going in the opposite direction and exotic forms of matter are produced.
Fact: high energy collisions like this (and even much much more energetic ones--much higher in energy than what will happen at the LHC) occur all the time when cosmic rays from outer space hit dust particles in our upper atmosphere. Again, particles are created, and the ones that don't decay in flight are going through us every second.
