I've tried just about every one out there, and have stuck with Firefox, although Chrome was pretty good, too. Firefox has a lot of very good security add-ons, and gives you more control. With No Script and Ad Block, surfing is a lot less stressful. ;)

Attached Link: calibrating a monitor
I had the same problem when I started out. Turned out my monitor was set way too dark. Correcting it made everything from Bryce to gaming easier.Thread: rival Vray with P12? Dosch | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Curse you, bagginsbill! j/k I'd comfortably settled in to checking nonsense sites and playing flash games, and now you have me all curious about why your shaders are correct and so many others look radioactive. And what VRay would do with a physically correct mirror, thanks to MLP. And how your shaders can be interpreted in other platforms. And what in the freakin' universe you don't know. ;)Â
I've adjusted bounces (down) in renders, but nowhere was there ever a mention of each one being 90% of the previous. I'm truly hoping that's built in to the render engine's code.
One question: When you said you start building a shader, you use a standard bright light as judged by your light meter. Do you mean bright light as in a 100 watt bulb, or bright light as in sunlight, or something else?
Thread: Why don't we all use high end apps? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Because no high-end app can do what Poser does? I mean, if you want to spend all your time trying to model every figure you render, and have them come out looking a lot worse than any Poser figure (for most of us), then model the clothes, then model all the props, just about any program will do.
People like Poser because all the tedious stuff is pretty much done, and the user can spend his time being creative. Geez, just the thought of modeling a foot would make me give up.

I think you're going to get me to open Cinema for the first time in over a year. ;)
The shader first, or lighting first, or trying to do both at once and ending up pitching something across the room, was one of the big reasons I gave up. Shaders, and scenes, and lighting, and render settings are so inter-dependent, you can really get lost.

Shaders first, then light levels.. (taking notes)
VRay for Cinema did set me back $1100 USD.

You know, I think the latest version of Poser is capable of producing excellent GI renders. I can't afford it, so I can't prove it. Give bagginsbill some time with it. He's already wrangled things out of it no one would have thought possible. Besides, making a platform do what it's not supposed to is at least half the fun... unless you're working against a deadline.

I thought VRay for Blender was already out there, but the home page shows it still in development.
I didn't find VRay at all a pig to install or use, although I don't have the latest version. It's certainly faster than Cinema's render engines, faster than D|S, faster than Poser (at comparable settings), and does have a visual "feel" all its own. Since VRay uses the same shaders as whatever platform it's built for, that was fairly easy to learn, and offers a huge amount of additional options.
Warning: do not try a demo if you don't want to buy it, because you'll get spoiled. It's hard to get a bad render out it. I mean, I can do it, but it's not easy. ;)
Just call me fan-boy.
That being said, I tried DAZ Studio 4 (hey, it was free), and was pretty impressed with the UberEnvironment. It was easy to set up, and made a nice render... slow, but nice.
The renders posted by bagginsbill show a huge improvement over what Poser could do in the past. They remind me of Cinmea's AR engine, which does have an artifact problem that requires a lot of tweaking to remove. (Or fix in postwork.) I hope he keeps putzing with that second scene, because it's very close to one of those to-die-for arch-viz renders. In Poser, no less...

Wow, Sam, now I see why you poofed during that time. I think Karma owes you some major good things from here on out. Sometimes I think we all get so focused on our own little crises, we lose sight of reality.
Thread: DAZ to make a "game-changing" announcement | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I think this has happened to most of us, paying full price just to see it appear in a magazine or something. I just figure in the headstart time as justification. Online isn't the only place I throw perfectly good money down the loo.
Still using Bryce 5 and Poser 7, so the reading in here does make me drool a bit. Much like the cool new features in Vray that won't work with my antiquated Cinema. There are just too many toys out there, and not enough time or money. le sigh

Actually, I have been curious about what they've done to Bryce, so I might snag that one.
Honestly speaking, though, I would rather have seen a fire sale on the latest Poser versions. Maybe SM will take a hint from DAZ? erm... maybe not, if they're reading this thread...

Photorealism, when you hit it, is very impressive. Depending on the project, it can be mandatory. Personally, I've seen too many arch-viz renders, and witnessed too many snit fits over minute details to have much patience with the whole process. I sort of miss the old Bryce days when it was more about what the image said than about the technical side. What catches my eye now is when both come together, and that doesn't happen often.

You know, this brings up a point between American and British senses of humor. Brits still have one. :P Seriously, sometimes I think we Americans are so afraid of not being politically correct, we can't laugh anymore.
And that's why my favorite comedy was Keeping Up Appearances, followed closesly by Absolutely Fabulous. They were full of stereotypes, and made me laugh so hard I literally cried. I still quote both shows regularly.
With that: I want to be a nun!

Oy vey! I will fess up to the fact that I have/still do think everyone in England dresses either like Braveheart or Mary Poppins, all French have such discerning taste in food none of them are fat, all Italians are very friendly and drive fast cars, all Scandanavians are stoic, and Russians have fun doing everything.
Of course all that goes right out the window when you actually go to those places, darn it.
If there is anyone to blame for the American Southeastern states' having a skewed reputation, it's from American films and TV shows. The Beverly Hillbillies, The Dukes of Hazard, Swamp People, and a growing list of shows that I refuse to watch. You can't blame people for buying into what Hollywood has been churning out for as long as film has existed. And the music industry doesn't help offset that, either.
