I was thinking of taking my fish-eye lens (Canon 15mm) and trying to go even wider.

Okay, but my concern is on linking them to trigger the flashes. Is it as simple as connecting a receiver the the hot shoe mount?

I have a max ISO of 1600.
And most of the shows have just enough light to make 1/25th for a shutter speed. For metal shows I need at least 1/100th. In addition, they tend to play with all the lights off, with their own lighting pointed out towords the crowd.

Another method is to:
Shoot on manual with an ISO of 800.
If you are using the kit lens, the aperture should be around 3.5 to 5.0
Play with the shutter speed to get the desired speed, it should stay in the realm of 1/30th - 1/125th.
Experiment and play with the different settings.
Shooting in RAW is also a great tool. Using the Digital Photo Professional software that comes with the camera, you can adjust (with in reason) the exposure and white balance of the image. Using Adobe Camera RAW (with CS3) you can take even more control.
Most important is to have fun. The more fun you have the better the photos will look.
Along with the 50mm lens:
Canon has their plastic 50mm f1.8 lens. You can buy them use for as little as $45 (U.S.) and new for around $100 (U.S.) Of the lenses that I have, the 50mm (Canon's Fantastic Plastic, of the Nifty Fifty) it is the one that I use the most, and get the best results out of.

the 1/50th and 1/120th of a second is the shutter speed.
and f2.8 is the aperture.

The 200mm is going to be way too long to use.
I use the 50mm f1.8 when I shoot concerts. I try to keep shooting around 1/50th - 1/120th of a second, with a 400 - 800 ISO, around f2.8.
Its also a good thing to hang out with the band a little before the show, so you know who they are and have a general feeling of what to expect.
The most important thing is to have fun. Sing with the music if you know it, and just rock out. It helps with calming your nerves.
What kind of concerts are you going to be shooting?

Alright, so the Vivitar 285 looks good. Any ideas what they are talking by battery pack? I cant seem to find one.
I'm still a little confused with the radio transmitter and receiver. Any more information on how the receiver would hook-up to the flash? And with regards the flash sync times, do you have any recommendations that can sync faster than 1/400?
MicroSync has their receiver plugs, but by the looks of it, they are for studio flashes, featuring only a house and mono plug. Do you know of a way to link wither of those receivers to one of the flashes?
And any more produce specifics you have would be great.
And thanks for the help so far.
