Thread: Making bump maps with colored images....how? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Gah!? I'm going to have to read those a couple of times (especially the last one) before they make more sense. :) Martin, thanks for that it finally explains why you invert (I think ;) (But [how] does this bug thing effect pro pack and do you just invert the red channel?)

Yes, that's true. I use a lot of weapons, mostly medieval) so it would make sense that I have a number of detailed categories for those. I rarely use animals so they could all be lumped together. And the way I understand it, even with PBooost you'd still benifit from an organised structure to your folders. (And PBooost tester reports that its won't work fully on my system, still, I'll probably try and get the money together anyway :) Yeah, organising textures would be a useful excerise too, but much more involved that with libraries (re-referencing those items that refer to those textures I mean).

Well actually no, not quite like I said it. White would be flat from that description, with the darker you get the deeper the depression. Does it really work like that?

Yes, and in the manual it says "The darker you paint, the more depression you create on the surface of the object. Use 50% gray for medium depressions and solid black for deep indentations." Like I said and not how MartinC described it (unless he works at -100% by default ;)

This won't be the ideal answer but its a Poser amateur's version of one anyway ;) You can use the texture map as a bump map as is (this is probably just a pro pack thing). However, its usually (always?) better to make it a grey scale. Inverting it sometimes gives you what you want sometimes it doesn't. Usually you have to still tweak it. The bump map works by the lighter the shade the more "bump" there is. I try to think of mid grey as flat and then darker areas are recessed and lighter areas raised (I may be slightly flawed in this but it seems to work for what I want). Think about a typical texture. A 3D look is given by highlighting raised areas and shadowing recessed areas. If you invertthat then you'll get them the wrong way for your bump map. Or that's the way I see it and can't understand why some people say to invert the greyscale. Please, someone explain how that works if I'm wrong :)
Thread: Problems saving poses | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah. Thanks. I suspected I may have missed that step :) I take it there is no way to have IK off by default? What if I save a character (or document) with IK turned off, will it be turned off when I load it back next time?

Here he is, more or less finished. My characters are always open, never "finished" so he might be tweaked a bit in the future. Its a pity that a lot of detail is not visible due to the black (but in this view the angle). e.g. I have a holster and knife as part of his vest, but you don't really see it. Oh well. I know it's there :) If I ever find reliable free webspace (ha!) I'll put him as a free download.Thread: Does "World War II 3D" still exist somewhere? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
BTW, Edison ERT, Police (by Howad) is also a useful one. The closest I've found yet. Black Ops soldier from 3D-CC has some good stuff too.

Aha! I just found that one on Propsguild. Thanks for the help. Although I'd still like to see a one stop for all this kind of stuff. If I had the webspace I'd consider collecting it together :)
Thread: Help! My head is invisible! | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Mike, the head was set to visible. There was no way to "fix" it during that session. Luckily a reboot fixed it. I did have a lot of other stuff running at the same time (other progs) so that was likely the cause.

I did a reboot and its back (phew!) I think it may well have been a memory thing. Thank you anyway.
Thread: Clear Materials List? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Yeah I knew they could handle it, but I wasn't sure that is wasn't supposed to create the .bum (some downloads ask you to do that that's all, I just wondered, no biggie:)
Thread: Clear Materials List? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah, I didn't realise that. That will be helpful. On the second part though, mine still remembers the "loaded list" even after a reboot, never mind quitting and restarting. Is this a problem? It is the ProPack though, maybe that's why? Oh and yes, one other thing :) I can't seem to make .bum files either? Is that another propack thing or some installation corruption?
