Here is a zero'd pose with a single inf. light at 90 degrees. Im not sure what you meant by flat lighting?
Can you describe or link an example of the type of lighting you mean?
I increased the specular from about 40% to 100%. I actually didnt realise it was so low! Normally I would have it at less than 100%.
--EDIT--
WHOA! I just noticed the smooth poly bugging out the shadow accross the chest! Dammit

Yeah I am not sure what happened to my scene file with the latest eye shader I created, but this one is terrible. I'll spend more time on it once I get the skin back up to scratch.
What would be a better lighting setup for feedback bagginsbill? Single light in a black room from the side?
I am trying to get the softer looking low scale SSS to render without losing the texture detail of straight diffuse while still looking "realistic" or close to.
Thankyou for the response!

For myself I like to see both close and far renders of clothes. I can often be unsure about buying something because there are no close ups showing off the model and texture/material detail.
Lighting should show how your model and texture looks under different lighting directions and types. It really helps when there is more than just studio shots or solo renders.

While Maxxmodelz is absolutely correct, I believe Poser gets a bad reputation in the lighting department mainly from the fact that a large group of the user base is not too concerned with lighting, and their renders look "poser-ish".
I mean no offense by that, art is freedom of choice.
In my opinion realistic light in Poser requires an encompassing light object. Adding one (with a high quality texture) will almost always make a render much more realistic.
Ever since IDL came in with PP2010 I have almost exclusively used a single spot light set VERY far away with start and end distances, along with an inverted high res sphere just encompassing the scene. A HDR texture from my growing collection plugs into ambient on the sphere. That is it for any outdoor scene. The spot color is picked out of the image sun spot and aligned to it.
Any outdoor image in my gallery after the space marines uses this setup.

ok, I dont think I will make any further changes to the shader, I think it has turned out looking extremely good!I also finally got around the creating eye teeth and gun shaders.
See the attached for a high quality render

definately 100% what WandW said. this scene will be given a boost of life using an environment sphere + 1 light instead of your multi-like approximation. The sphere surrounding the scene will produce light that bounces around the scene lighting things from all angles realisticly, thanks to Indirect Diffuse Lighting (IDL). You then just need one light, I'd suggest a point light myself with linear falloff. The single light will create your shadows so it is highly advised to use ray-traced shadows.
If you have a 3D graphics card in your computer thats not ancient, go into the render settings, choose the "preview" tab select OpenGL as the display engine and tick "enable hardware shading" and "enable hardware shadows".
Your preview in Poser will now show a low quality preview of the shadows you will get in realtime making it SUPER easy to setup your one shadow casting lite!

I use the linked PDF to create the shaders for the attached image. (plus a few things I have observed myself.
While it came out really well (just stand back a little and they look fantastic) but close inspection shows many problems that need working on.
Thanks for all the infromation everyone, I will have a look through your links and see if they can help me improve

Thread: Personal Attacks and how to deal with them | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Yeah, on balance, I think I am inclined to agree with Khai-J-Bach.
I've never subscribed to that adage "sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me".
As human beings, our language, written or spoken, is surely one of the most powerful tools... and by extension, weapons... we have.
So, in context, words typed on a page, whether shouted out in a public space, or whispered menacingly in a private one, can be very potent things, can't they?
Words are only as powerful as you personally let them be to your life. Something is only offensive if you allow yourself to be offended.
As long as people continue to take the expressions of some meaningless faceless individual on the internet as personal affronts to your very being as an individual, things will never change.
I used to be one of the most "famous" online identities in relation to a computer game community. The community of the games main rival collectively trolled and abused me online for many months. I just ignored them (and occasionally had an incredibly fun time poking them to intensify their rage). None of the personal attacks, death threats, comments to my manhood, redicule of my work had any effect on me at all. I found it all quite funny. Why? because I DID NOT let it effect me.
Control of your own emotions and reactions is the most powerful tool you will ever give yourself in your life.

I use turbosquid for stuff like this. Alot of people overlook turbosquid due to the idiotic prices of the products there. but it also has a huge free library. just search the marketplace and order by lowest price first. all the freebies willshow up.
If your comfortable with their search page, limit the results to those that have items in the following formats :
OBJ
DXF
3DS
LWO

Looking at your screen cap above, am I correct in assuming it is the verticle fold details, primarily on the upper part of the dress that you want to maintain?
Try setting Shear and Stretch to 900 with a cloth density of 0.0015
Also, something I forgot to mention earlier. Collision Depth and Collision Offset (inside the collide with dialogue) can be a killer for detail if you have it set to high. if polygons of your cloth (like the inner fold detail) are closer to V4's polygons than the collision depth or offset, these polygons will be pushed out until they are far enough away from V4. This will abolish all model detail.
The default offset is 1 I believe. I use 0.2. try settings V4 to 0.2 for collision offset and depth
