I recall questions like this when doing A level art. We had use strange arcane things called books back then. Fortunately we have the net now and this seems like a good primer about the major players. http://www.arthistory.sbc.edu/artartists/artartists.html good luck with it!

Thread: How to create a texture from a photo? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi France, "if the picture is large enough". easily. You can enlarge the baby template, but you must remember that each model or texture in a scene increases the amount of memory your computer uses. So if you have too large a texture poser may bug out during rendering. Personally speaking I find processor power doesn't seem to make much difference to poser. 2000x2000 for the baby texture will be OK with 512mb. 1500x15000 if you have 256mb and keep the scene small. best wishes al ps: my girlfriend says he looks a real cutey!

Not sure if this will be any of use to you or not, as it's not quite what you want. But try the old freeware version of lithunwrap. http://files.seriouszone.com/download.php?fileid=198 use the havoc link to download. note: lith is an old programme and the programmer now has a commerical version (http://www.unwrap3d.com/) - for $49. and looking at the screenshost this seems to have the kind of feature you need.

theres these tutorials... http://www.cakeone.com/c1%20pages/Tut%20Face.htm http://home.hiwaay.net/~mhongser/art/PoserFace/ but free software ? The best I've seen to make realistic faces is Digimask, but you'd have to buy their sdk to make .objs and "bolt" that head onto a figure.
