PS6 had some issues opening certain PSD files containing layer effects that were edited in PS7. There was an update that resolved that issue. i think the update was the 7.0.1 updater. it also had the "'Maximize Backwards Compatibility for Photoshop Files" in the preference file if memory serves me correct.
look for it in on the Adobe website - it should still be around. this should take care of your problem.
let me know if it doesn't,

Thread: Tips on making a tail.... | Forum: Photoshop
but if you want to do it in PS [or need to because you don't have any vector apps...] you can create your "tail" using the PEN tool [do it on a new layer] like suggested above and you'll be able to "mask" any part of the font you don't want showing.
i'll try to do a screen-cap of this from PS [though it's taken so time to even get this posted :( ]

@jhustead, HERE'S A SIMPLE ANSWER:
James, i hope for your sake your friend also transfered the End User License Agreement to you with Adobe when he "gave you the program". If not, you are using an illegal copy of Photoshop which will earn you a pernament ban for Renderosity. We have a zero-tolerance for warez (please re-review the TOS you agreed to when becoming a member), this includes "asking for" "offering" or "admitting to using" illegal (non-compliance to EULA) software.
I will say this, Adobe has a great deal of my HARD EARNED cash, so thought i do not mind helping or answering "simple" question (God knows i've asked my share...) i too get testy when asked "obvious" questions!
as for Sans2012 and Hoof "play nice"!!!

Thread: Batch convert | Forum: Photoshop
Hey Bez, hopefully this will make it through...
You can "automate" any action and make what we call a "droplet" so you could just drag a folder over it and have it run the process (action). but for know i'll just show you the "automate/batch" method.
First: launch Photoshop and go to FILE --> AUTOMATE --> BATCH to open the dialog window
Second: select the action (SAVE AS JPG) from the drop-down menu
Third: click the "Choose" button to locate the folder containing the PSD files you want converted to JPG.
Fourth: choose the destination method (SAVE AND CLOSE, or choose another folder to store the converted files...)
Fifth: click OK button to run through all the files in the folder.
let me know if you have any problems. sometimes when saving to JPG, the "settings" dialog window pops up and pauses the batch on each file so you may need to tweek a setting or two

don't forget to take all the brushes you've made and create a "brush set" so you don't lose them. remember, if that "can't" be reloaded, they "can" be lost! :) retrocity
Thread: Batch convert | Forum: Photoshop
i wrote this right after you posted the other day, and as i've lost "wordy" post in the past, i saved it to a text file first..
so here's the first part:
you can make an "action" that will handle it for you. think of "actions" and a tape recording of steps you perform to do something (in your case converting a file format...) that is repeated.
first thing: you'll want to do is open one of the images you need converted (.psd)
second: select the "action" tab and click on the "Create New Action" icon
third: name your action something like "Save as JPG" (you can also put the new action into a specific area/directory like "Default Actions" so you can keep organized. give it a hot key if you want too...)
fourth: click the "Start Recording" icon and just do what you'd normally do to save the file as a JPG. (FILE --> SAVE AS --> FORMAT --> JPG - set your options as you want...)
next: click the "Stop Recording" icon and your action is all made!!!! it should now be listed in your Action list
NEXT INSTALLMENT "Making a Batch"
hope this helps

Hey Joe, this would be one of those "mini-tuts" that you were talking about!! i'll have to go through the archives for more and make a list like you've done over @ the "rhino" forum!! :) scott
Thread: 2 question on brushses | Forum: Photoshop
one thing i find helpful when you have a lot of brushes and don't want to always have them loaded, make a "jpg" file of the brushes (sort of the thumbnails you'd see in the brush palette) this way you can find the right brush you want and load only that set.
as for your second question, i'm running ver7 but it should be similar:
Open the brush palette (if it's unavailable make sure you've selected the "brush" tool)
Click on the "Brush Tip Shape" option (it doesn't have a "checkbox" so alot of people don't even know it has settings you can modify)
Enter the value (degree) you want the brush to rotate (you can also grab and rotate the "arrow" it you are more of a visual person and don't know the degree of rotation you want)
hope it helps (...and that someone else hasn't already answered you while i was making my pretty screen capture visual ;l))

PeeWee, to get the most out of support from both Adobe and the friendly, knowledgeable members here, please have the license transfered to you too. This makes it all legit and know one will "freak".
As it's been pointed out, we @ Renderosity (especially the Admins and Mods) have a zero tolerance for warez, this includes the admission to using it. this means you can find your butt banned by poor choices of words.
look forward to seeing you around the forum,
:)
