The highlights are a little blown out. If you get a chance to re-shoot this, try setting up some kind of shade screen to cut out the direct sunlight. I think you will like the colors a lot better :)

It always amazes me how these creatures can look so beautiful and shabby at the same time.

The first one is way cool Diane... Thumbs Up Not sure about the IR and why it is noisy... My guess is that it is reading the moisture in the air at diferent levels of intensity, or that it has something to do with reciricol failure, but I do not understand this enough yet to be sure. BTW... I do not know if it is possible, but that old shed might make some really cool shots if done from the inside out. I bet at the right time of day the lighting coming through those open slats would be spectacular. Now I am off to shoot something... I do not know what, but it is 6:35 AM in my time zone and I am going to find something to photograph.

I am in Geneva New York, USA. This is a semi-rural area in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. Geographicaly, it is a fascinating place with a truly diverse landscape.

No problem Diane. I was using a 28MM f-2.8 Nikor AFD series lens. On the D1 there is a difference between the focal plane of the CCD when compared to a film based camera like my N90. This effectively gives the lens about a 42MM focal length. The image was shot at f-11 with a shutter speed of 125 manual focus-camera in manual mode. The reason I chose this was due to the overall brightness of the scene. Even though there was a fog the sun was staring to burn through it. Once I had the image on the computer, I converted it to grayscale and then to duo-tone in Photoshop. The duo-tone I chose was Pantone Warm Gray 8 CVP. I then conveted the image back to RGB and tweaked the levels a bit and dodged the area in the lower left using the dodge tool set to 9% for the shadows only. Man... I didn't realize I did that much. Anyway I hope this helps :)

Diane... I know what you mean about how amazing they really are... I am going to go back in the next day or two and try to get them in action right around sunset. I think they start coming out then. I also had to talk myself into posting this one as the other just blew me away. bsteph... That is a chain, not pipe. If you want me to I will be glad to shoot a couple macros of this for a texture for you.

My guess is that the spiders were in hiding... However, because there were an abundence of these, and from some conversation with the locals, I know that the spiders are there and I plan on going back to try and get one. I am told they are fairly good sized...
