I'm a solo22 fan, but Mesh_Magick has a Milano that looks good from several angles...search this forum for Phoebe.
Thread: All-encompassing ignorant question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
I'm no expert myself, but I believe one reason it's a big deal is because the rendering engines in those other applications are more complex and and allow for more realistic renders with features like volumetrics and caustics. I could define those terms if you held a gun to my head, but someone else could probably do it better and faster than I. Also, the more advanced programs have features that Poser does not. For example, LW can host plug-ins that generate hair and fur that are far more realistic than what you get with a plain Poser model (even after Kozaburo et al. discovered transmapped hair). Another example would be the ability to animate textures, though I think that the Poser ProPack does this itself also (and I think it also does motion blur, which these other programs generally also do). Another example would be that the advanced programs can animate "particles" to simulate clouds, fog, smoke, etc. which Poser does not do (at least, not well). Oh, and reflections, too! Of course, with these last examples, people could get a program like Carrara or Bryce, which are cheaper than 3DSMAX or LW...but you still would need to be able to get your Poser models and/or animation into those programs as well. But maybe the best answer is to search the galleries here for works produced by Poser plus one of these other programs...the ol' "picture is worth a thousand words" bit. Search with keywords like radiosity, or caustics, and I would think you could turn up some interesting results.

I believe that the3dwizard has done what you want, and is selling them in the Marketplace. I can't say I'm plugging them, as I havent bought them (yet). However, the comments on them seem positive.
Thread: New to poser Need BIG TIME HELP with textures. mostly skin tone and hair. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Howdy Again! From the image you uploaded, it appears that you are using one of the characters that comes with Poser 4, as opposed to characters such as Victoria and Michael, which are sold by DAZ3D. Melanie's suggestion about eyebrow transparency only applies to Victoria, Michael, etc., who have a different head design. Her suggestion generally does not work with the standard characters. Search the Free Stuff for "vickybuster." The original version that I have looked great, but it looks like the latest version has some sort of eyebrow transparency, so I may have to download it again myself! Happyworldland (found in the renderosity web ring) also had some good free textures, though not as detailed as the vickybuster. One possible hitch: I have been writing about female texture maps. I could not tell if you were using the regular P4 male or the regular P4 female. I can't think of a good free male texture offhand, though someone else here may know of one. Hope this helps... kbade

Welcome! I am by no means the Poser artist that others here are, but in addition to Melanie's comments (with which I am in full agreement), I would add the following. If you are using the standard P4 characters that came with the program, you'll need a good texture to get realistic eyebrows. I would recommend searching the Free Stuff here for the "Vickybuster" texture, which is a realistic texture for the regular P4 nude woman. Hair is another ballpark; it takes more than a texture to get realistic looking hair. If you are indeed new to Poser, you may not get Melanie's reference to "transmapped hair." (If you do get it, I apologize in advance for explaining it.) Basically, some very clever Japanese Poser users developed multi-layer hair models that allow for the application of transparency maps (and if you don't know what those are, they are explained in the Poser 4 manual that comes w/the software and serves as the help guide). It is this innovation that gives you realistic hair, rather than the plastic helmet look. Although DAZ3D (the company that makes the figures that come with Poser 4) and others have also adopted this technique, Kozaburo, Yamato and others still produce the most amazing hair models (IMHO). And the best part is, Koz etc. give them away for non-commercial use! So my advice to you is to go to the green column of links on the right side of this page, to the "Web Ring Top 15." Click on "Digital Babes." That's Kozaburo's site. You don't have to have to have the Japanese character set (your browser may ask if you want it) to read the site, either. From the front page of the site, click on "Downloads and Tutorial." You'll be able to get your own copies of the fantastic hair models most of the folk here use, and discover how it's done with the tutorial. Kozaburo also has texture and transparency maps for the hair models sold by DAZ3D/Zygote.
Thread: I'm Back...:) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Glad to read that you're back online...and I may be partially to blame for that e-mail backup, as I would direct folks to your site when they thought they had come up with a decent Alyssa Milano look-alike (and yours was inadvertent, if I remember correctly).

milamber_42: I think this is the link you meant to attach ;-) I probably should have punctuated my first nitpick with a smiley also. My nitpick was not whether she was joining the show, but that her first name is Rose, not Ruth. I should have been clearer about that. And as I mentioned, the only reason I noted the difference was so that people who didn't know who she was could search the 'net for her if they were so inclined. And I'm glad to be corrected (the announcement made it onto eonline.com, which I missed, but not onto mrshowbiz.com). So I apologize if my prior post came across as haughty or unctious; it was meant in the lighter sense the reply to it conveys. For anyone who hasn't seen Ms. McGowan or can't place the name: There is a picture with the linked press release, though the glamour shot isn't the whole story. Although I have not been a fan of her screen work since Scream, I recently saw her do a guest shot on Joan Cusack's ABC show in which she was not only sexy, but also sharp and funny, which bodes well for Charmed.Thread: Aylssa..finished | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Very impressive, particularly as it appears to have been done without a texture that could hide some discrepancies. It looks to be all in the geometry, so double kudos to Mesh_Magick. And the elephant in the forum no one is talking about is whether the morph will become available...hmmmmm? By the way, the rumored replacement is Rose McGowan. I don't mention it to nitpick, but to aid those who are unfamiliar with her, should they wish to look for reference photos.

To the best of my knowledge, solo22 had released the "Fara" texture used for the Milano-esque "Hottie," but not the .cr2 Like you, I would love it if he did...but as I noted above solo22 has been MIA recently. I believe he first had trouble with Lycos and then some severe hardware problems.

Good work (on Phoebe and Prue)! Far better than I could do. However, solo22 (who has been MIA for awhile now) probably still takes the Milano prize (albeit accidentally). And that's with Posette, I believe...This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Our own cookies make user accounts and other features possible.
