Alright here's the skinny on the copyright issue; I emailed the site asking if it would be alright if we could convert their 3D models so that they could be rendered for exhibition purposes only without commercial gains. Their response was polite and even showed some interest. My email; I've looked and see no copyrighted notices advising viewers that although the models are in 3dmf format, that they should not be converted over to other, more common formats and was wondering if that presents a problem as long as it's not being done for commercial gain. In other words, we have a bunch of fans that would love to use your buildings in their 3D renderings only to exhibit. Would there, in your opinion, be a problem with that? We thank you for your exquisite work. Their response; Thanks for writing to Artifice. Copyright for all 3DMF model files at GreatBuildings.com is held by Artifice, Inc. Only private, personal viewing of the models is permitted. Any other use including conversion or distribution of the models requires prior written permission from Artifice, Inc. If you could explain in greater detail what you have in mind, we'd be glad to discuss how that might be possible. We'll look forward to hearing from you again. Best wishes, David Owen rights@artifice.com
Thread: Question For Everyone | Forum: Bryce
Well shadowdragonlord, I've followed Bryce since it was strictly a Mac product. Although I've been strictly a PC user, I had my eye on Bryce since it's Mac days. I just couldn't wait for Bryce to go Windows plateform. And when Bryce 1.0 came out for the PC, I was right there waiting for it with opened arms. Problem was, the Windows version just kept crashing! So much so that eventually they had to send out a "make up" version Bryce 2.0 for free for those who owned Bryce 1.0! By that time I was very upset with MetaCreations for having sent out what in essence, to me, was a Windows Beta trial version for a hefty price. But it's come clean since but I was again upset when MetaCreations sold the rights to Corel. Corel in my opinion is a very upstanding company and Bryce couldn't had fallen into better hands. But you know, Bryce is not Corel's "baby" so I often wonder how far will Corel take Bryce?

Well yes, there's something to be said about taking pride in your work, I'd go along with that for the most part. But you must remember, the DTE (Deep Texture Editor) was never meant to be public to begin with. It was an after thought of MetaCreations to include that into the package and that's why originally there was no documentation on it. The algorithms that go into the DTE would make most peoples eyes glaze over as Susan Kitchens herself says. The DTE had been created by the programmer for the programmer to create the basic textures for Bryce and that was to be all that Bryce was intended to come with originally, basic textures. It takes a great deal of time just to get the DTE under your belt. Even seasoned Brycers have had a tough time with it. So yeah, its great if you can take the time to figure out the DTE but most people getting into Bryce for the first time want to get their hands dirty and create something right away and not spend months learning the DTE. Once you're comfortable using Bryce, then yes, by all means, explore all the other possibilities. Just my thoughts.

Yes, Real World Bryce 4 is an excellent book put forth by Susan Kitchens (Auntie Alias from the old BryceTalk gang) & Victor Gavenda and although it was written with Bryce 4 in mind, most everything still applies to Bryce 5 which was basically Corel's branding of Bryce 4. BTW, The Peter Sharp tutorial and others is included in that ".txt" file I uploaded in my prior post above, so have a look see.

LOL...my point exactly tjohn! Nice render BTW! Good use of the leaf editor in Tree Lab. Dan, Catlin_mc, thanks for the offer to do the conversions but I'd hate to be a pain in the - - - if everytime i decided I wanted to use one of the models in one of my renderings I'd have to bother you. Erlik, thanks for the link but I've already been all through there and couldn't find a reasonably priced piece of software to do the required conversion. They want $150 for Meshbox and I don't think I need the model that bad. I'll wait until Crossroads gets it together.

Roch222, I've tried all kinds of angles on DesignWorkshop Lite to make the conversion on a 3dmf model I downloaded from them earlier, even in wiremesh mode and I can't get to do it. If you've done it, would you share with us your secret?

$249 bucks don't even grow on bryce trees! Well, I guess we can make it happen in cyberspace but will they accept cyber money? Just a little too steep a price for just a few conversions me thinks.

No Tjohn, I checked! It can't read but could write the format but is slated to do so in the future. I can't believe there isn't anything else out there in common use that can do the conversion.Thread: Terrain help | Forum: Bryce

Thread: about Clipping | Forum: Bryce
Yes, once you've created a terrain and are in mesh mode, click on "E" nest to the mesh to take you to the terrain editor and there should be a clipping scale along the right hand side of the terrain canvas, if not, look on the top portion of the terrain canvas window and click on the little drop down sheet to the left of the black down arrow. Then, left click on the outside scale (the brackets), not the gradient scale, either top or bottom and slide that either up or down and you should see some yellowing in the canvas window.
Thread: Bryce 6 ? | Forum: Bryce
I didn't know you had to have Poser installed to be able to import from it. Don't you export from Poser to another format first then import into Bryce? I would think you mean make Vue d'Esprite compatible with Bryce since Vue d'Esprite is a relatively new comer as compared with Bryce.
