Another good one (free) to learn HTML with is "1st Page 2000." For a freeware HTML scripting program, it's probably as good as you'll find. If you just want to get a page up fast and learn html at your own pace, the HotDog packages (shareware, $40 - $100) at http://www.sausage.com/ seem to give a lot of bang for the buck.Thread: build a website help needed | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

It seems "free" hosting is a myth. Some will give you very limited "free" hosting if you'll register a domain name with them at a high price (Oh! you'd like e-mail too? another $10 a month, please!) others make you work for the hosting by advertising for them, or worse yet are the ones who make your visitors work by closing those pop-ups. And even if they say "unlimited bandwidth," they simply mean they aren't limiting you directly. They'll still have thousands of people sharing a fixed amount of bandwidth, and that WILL limit you. (Kinda like a six-lane highway, during rush hour.) Don't get me wrong, the "free" services are a way to get a presence on the internet to try things out, as long as you remember that you get what you pay for.

WIP = "Work In Progress," I kinda "am" them. Been a networking geek for 17 years now, 3D hobbyist for a few years. A couple of months ago I was looking for a hosting service, got a bit frustrated by the "fine print," and decided to start a service of my own. Leasing a managed server for it.

Once I get things a bit more organized, will put something in the marketplace about this. Meanwhile, take a look at the link. Comments welcome, but remember it's a "WIP."Thread: Boobs | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Uh, Jim... What happens with "pin-up's" boobs when you do a "point at?" maby a positive point-at on one, and a negaive point-at on the other would have them moving in opposite directions when the target was moved around. Just scientific curiosity, of course.

Patience has it's rewards! Was hoping something like that would happen, Lightwave dropped their prices by ~$900 a couple of months ago, was waiting to see if c4d would...

Bandwidth is the biggest issue, and most hosting services sell more than they expect you to use so even if you use what you're alloted, they not happy about it, and many will want $5-$10 per Gig when you go over. Another key is to make sure you have your own domain name. That way, even if you switch hosting services, you've still got the same url and e-mail addresses. I was Gonna start a thread next week, but if you could get your BW for less than a buck a gig, would folks be intersted? I'm launching a hosting service, and it looks like I'll be able to sell 96G over a six-month interval (averages to 16G per month) and 800Meg storage, for just over $94 (billed every six months.) Still typing up TOS, FAQ list, etc. but pricing is pretty much set now.

Free stuff hosting is ready now, just send: Filename of each item: Size of each item: Filename of each thumbnail: Brief description of each item (optional, will be posted on the download page next the thumbnail): Your preferred user-name for the site: to "render@geekantics.net" Also, take a look at the "conditions" at the bottom of the link at the start of this thread to make sure all is agreeable. I can get your page and account all set in less than a day (probably a few hours.) You can also take a look at http://www.geekantics.net/render/posercandy1/ to see what one of the download pages looks like.

:D Sounds like a "user operated" virus. Maby someone felt the need to make a virus, but didn't know enough programming to do it...

"Spare bandwidth" is part of the reason we're doing it. We're starting a web hosting "division" ("division" sounds weird considering "Geek Antics" is just my wife and I. Unless, of course, you wanna count our daughter, dog, two goats, four cats, etc.) For web hosting, we can get excellent prices on bandwidth and storage, but have to buy in large increments. We don't want the unused capacity sitting there doing nothing, so... Besides helping the artist (who shouldn't have to pay to give things away) hosting the free stuff allows me to have the server "pounded" so we can make sure it and the connectivity are solid, and gets the word out about the "soon coming" hosting service. (Everybody "wins.") FYI: We've decided to try web hosting for two years and specifically target the graphics community, so unless something "extreme" happens, the items hosted can stay at least through April of 2004. We're also thinking of dedicating 10% or 20% of our capacity to this once things get "rolling," so it may increase dramatically in the next few months. CHEERS!
