I would add too Instancing, which only helps in very large scenes and GPU acceleration of Preview(OpenCL or CUDA? ),FBX support too would be only awesome guys too
Thanks,Jura

Thread: Poser 11? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - Thanks for posting that snippet above. We want to keep improving the current versions. There are plans for a game/interactive development version in August, with polygon reduction, combining multiple figures into a single figure with a single combined material, discarding hidden polygons during the combine process, Kinect support for capturing animation, and robust FBX support. A by product of this development cycle will be continued support and ongoing Service Releases for P10 and PP2014.
Will this means FBX will be available in next SR(fingers crossed)?
Thanks,Jura
Thread: O/T A Technical Question | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - I have a Dell Vostro 430 with an i7 chip and 16 gigs of RAM. Recently I thought I would see if I could upgrade my RAM to 32 or 64 gigs. ( I run Poser Pro 2014,Vue Infinite 11,Adobe Photoshop Creative Production Suite CS4,DAZ Studio Pro 4.6 plus other programs) All resource intensive According to the specs of my computer 16 gigs is the maximum. I am told however that my Nvidea GTX 240 graphics card is outdated. My question is: Would an high end graphics make any difference to the performance of my computer? As I understand it the RAM and chip is what controls the performance of a computer! Cheers
Hi there
More RAM only helps if you are rendering or if you are using very large scene or rendering very large scene,I would go with 32GB although if you can upgrade to 64GB then I would go,my mobo only support 24GB and really sometimes I wish I can have more RAM
I would check Motherboard how many slots you have and what is limit per slot,I would thought so yours MB should support more GB per slot(I assume you are have 4GB per slot right now?)
Yours GPU si outdated that's for sure,do you have any issues in Poser Pro/DAZ3D or Vue with very large scenes?
I would thought so you can have issues with very large scenes in VUE,in Poser pro too you can go to issues when you are have very large scene something like Stonemason or many others
Yes better GPU will help you with bit faster viewport in Poser Pro and DAZ3D,not sure what is GPU limit in VUE,I've used only VUE 9 and there has been limit on GPU I think 1GB or more,I just right now don't remember(I've sold my VUE 9,big mistake)
Yours CPU si already great CPU,not sure which i7 you have,I've i7-920(old,but still great CPU,overclok'd to 4.4Ghz) and RAM and GPU only helps in overall performance
As above said DarkEdge said, yours CPU is quad core(4 physical cores) and you have plus HT(Hyperthreading) with which you have plus extra 4 cores
You can try to disable those extra 4 cores in BIOS and try render, you will see difference in render, disabling is great if you are thinking go beyond spec of the chip with overclocking, with disabled HT you will and can have better temps and performance not sure,I've always enabled all cores and temperatures I'm watching via CoreTemp or Real tempGT
If you want to bit faster yours CPU,probably best way to go is with custom build PC,with which you will be for sure,is build and tailored to yours persoanl taste and spec
And about the GPU,I've been using GTX560Ti 2GB and I'm now switching to the R290X or 280X still I'm not 100% decided,nVidia is great GPU,but for my needs LuxRender and OpenCL apps is bit slow
Hope this helps there
Thanks,Jura
Thread: Comparing Renderers | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - > Quote - what surprises me here though is how slow Octane and Reality are
Reality is not slow, Luxrender is. I'm actually surprised for the opposite reason. I think what we are seeing in some of these replies are people who are just comfortable with one renderer, and know it very well, but don't know the others quite as well, and can't get them to perform the same way. You can not compare Luxrender's speed to Octane. Octane, on every scene I have tested, was up to 8x faster at converging samples than Luxrender, using my GPU vs. CPU at the time, with same lighting setup, and equivalent materials. Yes, Octane will slow down if you use SSS and lots of refractive materials in PATH TRACING or PMC kernel. However, no one is discussing how fast Octane can be under the same conditions in Direct Lighting/Diffuse mode, when settings are tweaked, with very little loss of quality.
There's a guy in the 3dsmax forum here who renders top-notch, realistic renders with Octane for most of his freebie previews, and believe me, the realism is insane on most of it. A look also in his gallery shows some very high end images with incredible realism done in Octane. I've discussed his hardware and render time specs with him on several occasions, and have concluded there's just no way to get the same level of realism in the same timeframe out of Firefly or Luxrender. I don't know about Vue, because I've never used it, and really have no interest in it. Vue doesn't play well with some of the high end softwares. It may be good with Poser, but it's Xstream plugin is unreasonably buggy, and crashes constantly with other software, so I've dismissed it as a serious tool in that regard. I know it's renderer has been used successfully in studio production, mainly for matte renders and flythroughs of extensive outdoor environements, but I rarely, if ever, hear of it used in production for much else. Especially not character rendering. It lacks a good skin shader (SkinVue is ok, but not anything like a good multi-layer BRDF SSS shader). Octane can do multi-layer SSS, although it does slow drastically with Path Tracing, and most average or casual users do not know the proper node setup to get the most out of the SSS in Octane for skin.
Hi there
From my personal experience,I've tried LuxRender/Reality on the nVidia/GeForce GPU and on those cards LuxRender is very slow and will be slow, that's not by HW issues, but SW issues, just due nVidia crippled OpenCL and OpenGL on their cards(CUDA concurrency?)
On other hand on the ATI/AMD cards is LuxRender bearable and fast, but still is not fast as I would like, but still is faster than on nVidia GPU..
I must admit Octane is great plugin, but unless OTOY will or at least try to make OpenCL version of Octane I'm out,I've owning nVidia GPU now,but after few tests what I've done on borrowed GPU(R280X and GTX760 plus my 560Ti 2GB),I'm sure I will be getting AMD/ATI card,I've done test renders like LuxRender or V-RAY and in those SW simply R280X is faster and better than my 560Ti or borrowed 760
In V-RAY I've tried R280X,must admit I've thought so,VRAY RT will not work with this card9as from previous experience with older ATI GPU),but after few quick renders everything has worked as should without the single issue, but still think I will be getting R290X than R280X
Agree on Octane will make or can make great renders,I've tried too VUE PLE only and must admit I've love work with the VUE,although not sure if I would use this as my main SW,I prefer to work with Poser and 3DS MAX,I've tried too Blender, but after trying that, think I will leave this SW on other long winter days
I know this has been bit off topic and sorry to OP
Thanks,Jura

Also, if you are using IDL, be sure to turn OFF "light emitter" on any transmapped hair you may be using. This is the single greatest time saver I have found.
Agree about the bagginsbill,he is legend and about the hair and IDL,that's true too

Thread: Help with Raytrace Bounce Settings. | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi there
From personal experience I would use D3D script(Render Firefly) which is located under Scripts->Partners->Dimension 3D
With this script you will have better control of the IDL,bounces etc.Previously I've used like you are almsot maxed settings and has been pain to render
I'm not using such high numbers for IDL,usually my settings(in Dimension3D Render Firefly) are somewhere in region Irradiance Cache 25,intensity 2-3 and samples around 500-1000 and irradiance Cache I've set at 40.0,intensity I've set at 1.0
With those settings I'm pretty happy with results
About the Raytrace bounces, usually I'm using 2 and 3 or more if I want refraction,I think bagginsbill tested this and as he said, you shouldn't go above 4 although 3 is still enough in most cases
About the sphere I'm using only above mentioned bagginsbill free env sphere which you can download from this link https://sites.google.com/site/bagginsbill/free-stuff/environment-sphere
With this you will need to use HDRi or any jpg pcitures of the enviroment something like this
http://www.hdri-hub.com/hdrishop/freesamples/freehdri/item/76-hdr-sky-cloudy
And about the lighting, this depends I've tried several setups for indoor lighting, but usually in my case 3 lights are enough for my needs(1 Infinite light with RT shadows,1 Infinite light acted as sun and one IBL)
Hope this helps there
Thanks,Jura

Thread: Should I get Reality 3 (Lux Renderer For Poser) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Hi guys
For me Octane is not option,I'm ditching the nVidia for ATI(AMD) just due nVidia poor implemetation of the OpenGL and OpenCL,I've tested last week friend R9 280X and my view is,its better in the Poser Pro when you have very large scene and is better too when you are using Reality/LuxRender plus biggest plus for me is what I've tested this card under V-RAY RT and results are very good, just due this I'm going with ATI(AMD) for now,my Motherboard support SLI/CrossfireX and nVidia will be used mainly for some CUDA apps, although I don't think I will be using them
I'm considering too other renderers and other software, hope so Poser Pro will start to support .fbx,Poser Fusion is nice addition, but is slow when you are importing larger scene to the 3DS MAX,on other hand I'm sometimes using DAZ3D only due Studio support export fbx,but that's is only one thing which I'm using Studio, export to fbx and import to the 3DS MAX is easy to do
Thanks,Jura
Thread: Should I get Reality 3 (Lux Renderer For Poser) | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Quote - > Quote - Few weeks ago I've spoke with friend if I can use his PC for test render with his 3DS MAX and V-RAY,he said sure and here is my latest render, still is not finished or is not there, but in this render I've not used any light(only dome with V-RAY HDRI and texture of the sky),now I will be getting student version of the 3DS MAX and V-RAY student version too, which should be OK for testing and if I woudl be happy then I will be buying full version of both. Lights in 3DS MAX I was thought so is hard, its not and really looking at tutorials over on Youtube is worth it in my view, shame people for Poser Pro not doing such tutorials
I've considered like you are Octane, but I know for my scenes I would need 6GB GPU and this will cost me more in the end than I've originally thought so
Jura - Those are some great renders!!!
Just thought I might mention that you can't judge the amount of VRAM you will need for Octane by the amount of RAM used in Poser or size of the file. The SiFi image above took over 5Gb of RAM in DS, but took less than 2Gb of VRAM for Octane to render it. So a 6Gb Titan isn't required, unless your rendering really large scenes.
But if you need a Titan, at $1,000 US, plus ~$450 for Qctane and the Poser plugin your cost still less than the annual cost of the full version of 3DS Max and Vray ($1,840+$494 per year, every year you want to use them). I run Octane on a laptop with a Geforce 670M (about the same as a 560 in a desktop) with 3Gb of VRAM and have been very happy with the performance. I still haven't maxed out the VRAM, mainly due to the texture slot limitations (my card is Fermi based - so I can only have 64 color texture maps). The VRAM and texture limitations should go away with Octane V2, there will be an option to use system RAM to supplement VRAM (with a hit on performance).
Of course if Octane or Lux don't work for you, then your options are a bit more limited (though you are getting great results with Firefly). Vue Esprit (or better) might be a less expensive option. But if you want to use Poser Fusion, then your limited to some fairly expensive software. Good luck with 3DS Max and Vray, it looks like your off to a great start.
Hi there
Thanks for kind comment
I've got already GTX560Ti 2GB and I've tried already Octane on my computer with few renders, but in my case,I would need better GPU.My scene are very large and usualy consist from 2 or more V4 with SSS,fully clothed etc, several props like Stonemason and other bits and pieces,I've been considering Octane now for about the 4 months, but still I just don't think for me its worth it
And about the 3DS MAX and V-Ray,as I said I'm considering V-RAY and 3DS MAX,I will be getting EDU version of both and will see if its OK or not,I know V-RAY is more for architecture than for human rendering, but with few tweaks can make nice renders,I've done several renders, which I will post soon as I will be with my friend(he have them on his PC)
Agree 3DS MAX is very expensive and with V-RAY we are talikng about the crazy money, this subscription not sure if I would need,I know from my personal experience I wouldn't need that
I've spoke in good lenghts with my friend and he said, this subscription is good if you are or I'm pro and I'm doing this as pro,but as for home user,he said,I wouldn't need that, but still I'm considering to buy older 2012 or 2013 version of the 3DS MAX,those new are quiet expensive and V-RAY too I will be using for now EDU version with EDU version of the 3DS MAX,hope so there is no watermark,if yes then,I'm back at square one

Poser Pro render firefly will and can make exceptional renders, but as above previous posters said and as you are said, light can make or break an art piece
Lighting depends on the more factors,I've been trying to make few interior renders and get the lights right there is sometimes test and error and again you are at square one
Lux or Octane are great renderers, but downside of them, one is slower and second one is quiet expensive and if you are running right now ATI(AMD)GPU,forget on Octane,Octane currently only support nVidia GPU(which are quiet poor in the LuxRender) and for Octane you will need quiet good GPU if you are thinking about the large scene to render, both will and can make nice renders and all depends again on the lighting and if you have a
Problem getting good render is quest of all of us,sometimes takes time to get perfect render and get splotchless render(interior in my case) is quiet challenge sometimes, but not always
I've been using Poser pro for quiet while and must admit, its great software with awesome possibilities
In last few weeks/months I've tried to improve my interior renders,I've tried almost everything and done several 100's renders and still I've been not happy with the results.
Few weeks ago I've spoke with friend if I can use his PC for test render with his 3DS MAX and V-RAY,he said sure and here is my latest render, still is not finished or is not there, but in this render I've not used any light(only dome with V-RAY HDRI and texture of the sky),now I will be getting student version of the 3DS MAX and V-RAY student version too, which should be OK for testing and if I woudl be happy then I will be buying full version of both.

I've considered like you are Octane, but I know for my scenes I would need 6GB GPU and this will cost me more in the end than I've originally thought so
Now about the Reality,I've bought the Reality when has been in sale and now I'm little bit dissapointed, getting good render in reasonable time its quiet challange
I've never used on my renders any postwork, here is my two,one is V-Ray render and one is normal Poser Pro Firefly render with GC OFF,IDL on and I've used think 4 lights, not sure right now
Hope this helps there,I woudl try to make best render what you have already,Poser Pro really can make nice renders
Thanks,Jura
