Actually, I think a modified hammer would do it. One that had a nail-sized hole in one end that could hold the nail until you got it started. Then flip the hammer around and bang it the rest of the way in. Beats holding the nail with your tounge.

Hey, I just read AZChip's discussion, and I have to ask: Am I the only one who assumed Dexter Craig was a made-up name? Sincerely, Raymond Luxury-Yacht (Mrs.)

I just want to mention that you guys made it really tough to pick a winner. The scoring was very close, and in my opinion, each entry had at least one thing that it did better than the others. I still couldn't tell you which was my favorite picture. I'm a big fan of Cheesy movies, and all the entries made me want to watch a bunch of Mystery Science Theatre 3000.

For a good tutorial on creating characters, check out the link above. (I think I'm starting to sound like a broken record.) If you want to make a brand new character (which personally I think is the most fun), you will need another program besides Poser. Any 3D modeller that will let you save obj files will work. The Anim8or program mentioned above is freeware, available at www.anim8or.com. There are other freeware 3D packages, but Anim8or is the only one I'm familiar with. A morph is basically target geometry. For example, let's say we have a cube file we want to make a morph for. Call it cube.obj. To make the morph target, you open the cube.obj file into your modeling software, and move the vertices (no deleteting, no adding vertices -- you can only change the positions). Then you save the result to a new name, like cubemorph.obj. That becomes the "target", or what the cube will look like when the morph dial is set to 1. So you see, morphs are pretty darn specific to the model they were created for, and that's probably why the morphs you downloaded didn't work the way you wanted. You might want to visit the Charactor Creator's forum, as this is the kind of stuff we talk about all day long, weirdos that we are. --Terri (I know, I know, speak for myself)Thread: So you have no ears, one huge eye, and blurry vision - what do you do? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL
Ah yes... meant to add that yes, the feet were designed to double as hands (which is why I used "finger" names for the toes). If figure they might be "right handed" or "left handed" (or footed), just like we are. One hand/foot would be favored for manipulation, the other would be used for support (the toes can spread out so there at equal angles). And the tongue could be prehensile as well, which could lead to some interesting martial arts. But there are challenges to designing even the simplist tools. Like, for example, something as basic as hammer and nail. What if Cring wanted to nail something up on a wall? How would he hold the nail in place? I've thought of a couple of approaches, but how about I might throw it out as an informal challenge. Any takers? --Terri

Oops! Sorry I didn't see this sooner! I think it's terrific! An aristocratic Cring! And yes, I am totally OK with people posting Cring freestuff, especially neat stuff like this. In addition to the monocle, I love what you've done with the eye texture (textures are my Achilles' heel -- well, one of my Achilles' heels; I have several). Your monocle strikes me as a practical solution for Cring's biology. You could do some fun stuff with it. Like how about a jewellers lens for Cring-the-Counterfitter? Of course, figuring out what sort of counterfitting tools this guy would need could be a bit of a challenge... Very nice work, and if you post it in freestuff, I'll snag a copy for myself. --Terri

Looks very cool. Thanks! I'll try to give more constructive comments after I've had a chance to play with it (darn lunch hour is still 3 hours way, rats!).

Thread: Carrara Studio: A good complement to Poser? | Forum: Poser - OFFICIAL

A fair question, Nnplus. Well, the studio version includes Amapi 3D v.5, which has Nurbs (something that I want to learn about). It also includes several third-party plug-ins that I think will come in handy. However, I'm sure many Carrara 1 users will be happy with just the Carrara 1.1 patch. For more info, see that attached link. --TerriThread: CARRARA STUDIO - $99 | Forum: Carrara
It was my understanding that the patch would be free, but that the Studio package (including Amapi) would be $99. I already downloaded the 1.1 patch, and that was indeed free. So far much viewer bugs. I have gotten a few "unable to render" messages, but on the whole it has been a huge improvement in performance. I won't know if the upgrade to studio will be worth it unitl the package gets here! --Terri

You might want to ask the question over on the Carrara forum. The moderator, Litst, is a whiz at Carrara textures whiz, as are several other of the inhabitants.

Peter, I'm not sure any of the Carrara Studio product has shipped yet. It was a fairly recent announcement. You might check over on the Carrara forum to see if anyone has received the new software yet. I did go ahead and order it, as I already have Carrara, so it seemed like a safe gamble. I only ordered it last week, so I haven't seen it yet. We may have to wait a bit before we can hear some feedback! Sorry I can't give you a more definite response.
